Totally spot on. You'd almost expect her to Ninahagenize (?) it, but it's a very good, very Brechtian performance of the song. Lotte and Kurt would be proud.
"Alabama Song" was originally published in Bertolt Brecht's Hauspostille (1927). It was set to music by Kurt Weill for the 1927"Singspiel" Mahagonny and used again in Weill's and Brecht's 1930 opera "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny".
it's funny how people are totally missing decades of culture... reminds me of how many people think that 'Fever' is actually an original Madonna song.... poor us...

@KhmerD0g Nina Hagen is neither queer nor a drag queen. You, OTOH - are merely an asshole and a nobody.

This is the closest to the original intent of the song since Lotte Lenya. Even better than Lenya. Hagen was born to sing Weill.

Well many people don't realize that Hey Joe wasn't written by Hendrix, and Knockin on Heaven's Door wasn't written by GN'R.
In my opinion a cover can't be better than the original. But out of all the covers, The Doors' version was by far the best.

one of my fav song ever. can never replace lotte lenya's version but god what a pleasure to see nina hagen covering it.

She's Nina Hagen.
She sings with emotion. She tells you the story while singing.
It's not BAD. maybe bit unusual for some people.
