  • i saw this film years ago, loved it thanks for the upload.we all now how many millions of protestants were killed by the inquisition.they still have not apologised.

  • Maybe Charles I did something bad (not to mention the fact that he favored Catholicism), but Cromwell was far worse! HE KILLED A FATHER APPOINTED BY GOD, HE KILLED INNOCENT CATHOLICS, HE MASSACRED THE IRISH, HE ENSLAVED THEIR CHILDREN, HE FORBID HOLIDAYS OF HIS OWN RELIGION!

  • Also, in one scene, Cromwell suggests the King should install democracy in England. In reality, CROMWELL NEVER MADE THAT SUGGESTION! He had no dreams of democracy. All he wanted was to kill the King and the Catholics, and let the Parliament finish the job.

  • In the film, there is a scene were Cromwell goes to pray in a Church, an finds out that it is decorated in gold, by the order of the King who favors the Catholics. Enraged or deluded, Cromwell tears down the gold and calls it pagan. This is a remarkable scene where a Puritan might think of his actions. Gold is like an offering, we offer our riches to God for our health, and Cromwell just believes that this is rubbish! Cromwell is not just a villain, he is a tyrannical pagan!

  • listen a movie is just a movie thats it dont take it too serious.. we wil never know the real reality of history

  • There are many opinions on Cromwell. A religious lunatic, fighter against tyranny, tyrant himself. I've heard he did it on religious purposes more than of political. They spoke of God, yet didn't hesitate to bash other non-protestant Christians' heads in (not taking anti-Christian stance here, I'm one myself). So who was he?

  • " you mean a Civil war?" haha best part

  • I love this movie because, well, how many decent movies have ever been made in the time period? No, it's not historically accurate. Richard Harris overacts through out but with that charisma and voice, and the irony of a wild irishman playing the most hated figure in his nation's history, you have to forgive him. As for the real Cromwell, he was Europe's first self made military dictator, and was successful in all his campaigns by land or sea. A strange and a compelling character.

  • @baddestofthemallukno, @donnyab, @cannuck1, @britonagainstislam, Consider all the 'factions' that are referred to/mentioned in this clip, with each faction being an 'occasion for' disloyalty, and consider what Cromwell fundamentally was loyal and dedicated to.

  • God, it's such revisionist history...it's a great movie but accurate it is not.

  • "Every man who wages war believes that God is on his side ... I warrant God should often wonder who is on His."

A great quote and observation. I wonder if it is originally attributable to Cromwell.

  • @ProNorden Film could not properly portray the greatness of Cromwell. Indeed he is recorded as having spoken those words. Here are some other good ones from out dear Lord Protector: "It will be found an unjust and unwise jealousy to deprive a man of his natural liberty upon the supposition he may abuse it." "Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God."

  • He should of been hung at the beginning the treacherous twat

  • he is in my family tree

  • @antichristeileen

Of course . . . His line died out you twit.

  • @BritonAgainstIslam no it's not look it up ¬¬

  • @antichristeileen

I'm related to Jesus Christ, no seriously!

  • @BritonAgainstIslam talk to me when you are old enough to drink tell then go out and play

  • @antichristeileen

    It's 'till' not 'tell' . . .

  • Baddessofthe mall oliver cromwell did indeed make his son richard lord high protector he only lasted 6 months. He did not have the savagery to rule chaotic england at the time ergo his father. The people welcomed him charles the second back.cromwells son is fashioned tumbell down dick bye englishmen. And why are you telling monsierblue to go back to ireland he probably has french blood.

  • nice editing...as has been said, "Butchers!" Why bother even posting this...

Tepuk dada tanyalah iman ... Sekian terima kasih ... maaf jika menyinggung kan sesetengah org ..

  • nice editing job! You cut out a very important and contraversial scene. BUTCHERS!!!

  • Who plays oliver cromwell

  • @Hunte9753 , Hi there! Richard Harris played Cromwell.

  • Comment removed

  • How much of the movie is cut out ?

  • brilliant film

  • I love oliver cromwell

  • An Irish actor playing Cromwell. Who knew?

  • @funkyalfonso Irony of ironies, right?

  • 0:10

  • what this film fails to point out is that Cromwell had a time share in lanzarote and an english pub in tenerif. He only stayed to fight charles because the king owed 6 months rent on his swimming pool in magalouf

  • God bless the Irish.

  • God save the king!

  • @Ohiobushman72 no one else will

  • yes were loved the whole world over but only god will bless us yes you keep telling yourself that

  • Comment removed

  • and you only think the Irish are loved all over the world because you have fallen for the `cheeky cheery irish` act you no doubt experience on St Paddys day at your local Irish bar.

  • We?

    Your AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Typical, you Americans love to attach yourself to anyone with a bit more history that you-unless you were born in Ireland, you are NOT Irish. Your youtube profile says you are in the US, so tell me-born in Ireland or the US, if Ireland, you can comment, is America, stop living vicariously through a more interesting people

  • i live in waterford in south east ireland lived here my whole life you tit why didn't you ask me about it instead of wastin ur time writing a load of shit

  • @JoeJuve2k7

    um,i was talking to Ohiobushman72

  • i live in waterford in south east ireland lived here my whole life you tit why didn't you ask me about it instead of wastin ur time writing a load of shit oh and my profile says im from Ireland plz open your eyes

  • well ive been gettin em as replys to me

  • oh right, well sorry about that

  • Cromwell was a religious fanatic with a strong bias against Catholics. Plus he had a lot of political ambition. That can be a pretty volatile combination. Look at GWB.

  • no he wasnt-his anti catholicism was a product of the time, but he was committed to a lot more religous tolerance for non catholics than you would imagine-he is the one who readmitted te jews for example

  • hehehehehe he fucked up irish people

  • @ladyobaoba i wish cromwell were alive today,by god we could do with him

  • @bigme1975

I like that way you say "by God", it sounds so magisterial and grandiose, nay Shakesperian !

  • Obviously controversial but interesting

  • Wish oliver was back in ireland Boy do we need him now.

  • why I thought things were are relatively stable? Or do you just miss the collusion between the ruc and the death squads?

  • You have been listening to republican gossip.Everyone knows that catholics are allways innocent -dont believe the rumors of child molesting either probably just a simple misunderstanding.

  • Republican gossip? British ombudsman the UN even PM Blair stated as much.

What do pedophile rc preist have to due with peace and stability in Northern Ireland? Or is that scaremongering?

  • yup, im sure its just a misunderstanding when they kind a dirty old mans in priests robes, putting his penis in their mouth or arse!

  • Lucky England! I wish France would have had her Cromwell in the great Fronde against the absolute monarchy too and would have thus escaped absolutism or at least her shameful two alliances with the Turks. Oliver's speeches are of the first water: "The Spaniard is your enemy; (...) You could not get an honest or honorable Peace from him: (...) I say, it could not be attained with honor and honesty. (...) He is naturally throughout an enemy; an enmity is put into him by God."

  • Cromwell is a CUNT!!

We will never forget the rivers of blood in Wexford and Drogheda.

    Ireland hates you!!

  • It's an irony to see a Limerick man playing such a lead role!

  • @cardigan181 Plus the actor was not exactly puritan either, Richard Harris was a legendary hell raising party animal. Lol Cromwell must be turning in his grave, oh right he can't he was dug up and beheaded and his body thrown into a pit. Lol

  • @cardigan181 I know, a total jesuit playing the role of Cromwell, OH THE IRONY. Yet he does a brilliant job.

  • when the bishop of rome orders you irish to invade protestant land, we have every right to fight back. we had a dagger at your throat, so what. if the roles were reversed , you wouldnt have hesitated to crush us.

    WE WON YOU LOST!!!!!!!!

    DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!

  • it has been proven, even by irish historians that the massacres were purely military. yes 5 000 people died but cromwell offered quarter and aston refused expecting help from ormonde so he resigned his men to death. in wexford sinnot refused again. cromwell occupied the castle and those who did not surrender were either killed or drowned crossing the slaney. compare this to clonmel were the NMA lost 2000 to hugh dubh o'neill and yet quarter was given. restoration propaganda led to massacre myths

  • cromwell is like RPK ?

Please stop your bangsar yuppie fantasies , we are an Asian nation , was and will be. You 10% stop trying to ram your pariah values down the 90% 's throats .

RPK democrat my arse , he's a thinly disguised glory hunter. Fuck them all BN,PK 99% of politicians are assholes.

  • Richard Harris was a fantastic actor and a very interesting person, I like to think.

It's funny because after King Charles I was executed Cromwell and the rest of the Parliament became bigger tyrants than the King ever was. Proving that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Parliament was the reason the pilgrims came to the Americas in the first place and Parliament was also responsible for bringing about the end of the Great British empire.

Talk about irony. Kharma's a bitch.

  • i think cromwell is pretty cool guy. he defends peasants and doesn't afraid of anything

  • @georgezimmer anything/anyone but God

  • @georgezimmer if you were British you would know like we do, he was a crook, liar, scum, coward, opportunistic, tyrant. After he took power, he became a Dictator & virtually in King in EVERY WAY except name, he because "Lord High Protector" & even signed his name Oliver P, just like the Queen signs it Elizabeth R (Regina=Queen). After him, he passed the title of "Lord High Protector" to his son, JUST LIKE A KING. He was a hypocrite, a liar, and his "commonwealth" was period of SHAME in the UK!!

  • @MonMonsieurBleu absolute rubbish, I'm English & your watching the beginning of democracy here. This is how it shud have been from the beginin. Why r u ashamed? Is it because the country is a Protestant country, is it because ur a Catholic? are you upset that the Church of England is a Protestant church? Go bak to Ireland or accept dis country as it is, & 2ndly he didnt pass the Lord High Protector position on2 his son, Charles II became King of England after his death, watch the film an u'll c!

  • @BADDESTOFTHEMALLUKNO

...the beginning od Democracy [lol]....Wiki: Democracy has its formal origins in Ancient Greece, but democratic practices are evident in earlier societies including Mesopotamia, Phoenicia and India.

    You mean democracy in England.

  • @donnyab Yes but no other country before England had such an advance democractic system, and its thank to Oliver, anyway think what you like it doesnt change the facts

  • @georgezimmer He had his good sides, and his bad sides. He forbade the celebration of Christmas outside of the church ceremonies for one.

  • @georgezimmer

too religious for me but no doubt a capable man

  • @georgezimmer and then bores the country to death with his religious law. Hence the Restoration of the Monarchy ;)

  • Ok, so the producers have quite liberally used their artistic license and changed a fair few facts- but I'm a big fan of Charles Stuart and this is some of the only footage left of him. I thoroughly enjoy shouting at Cromwell. Thank you.

  • cromwell was agreat man doing the lords bidding

  • Richard Harris is awesome! If you watch him for a while, the guy is actually kinda hot. .... just thought I'd put it out there, guys. :)

  • yes he was good looking but incase u havn't noticed hunny he's gone. and it's not about wot he looks like, he's an amzing actor!

  • LOL , yes I have noticed and yes, he IS an amazing actor. =)

  • I agree slightly there is something curious about him but as that other person said he's dead.

  • Why did you cut all the credits and music at the beginning? great movie though.

  • Youtube does not allow that. I have tried many times to include it but failed to upload until i edited the vid

  • That is an enormous pity, it's fantastic music

  • i watched a scene in history class it was good

  • I love Richaard Harris!! is such a good actor!! an sexy too!!

  • I'm watching this movie in history class and, at first I thought it was going to be boring but it's actually interesting.

  • @Bstarlet392 , I thought exactly the same thing!

  • I have seen this movie before , i rasa The King @ Dollah Badawi

    The Queen @ Rosmah

    Prince Rupert @ Khairy
