i flashed my xbox and everything is working fine. Being that this firmware is 1.51 will i get banned right when i sign into xbox live or do i have to play a game to get banned?
He did this with a rigged power supply. Chances are you are using the power supple in the 360 with your SATA cable going to your computer.
You need to have your AV (audio video cable) plugged into some kind of display otherwise the x-box with shut off after 5 minutes. I just left mine plugged into my tv but you might be able to use a monitor with HDMI.
I can't get JungleFlasher to see my hitachi drive so I have to use this method. So far I've been able to get to ModeB just fine, but the xbox keeps shutting off before I can get the drive to read the audio disc (which is what the problem is with the drive....)

yeah just did it...couldnt find the toolbox with 1.51 firmware so i downloaded jungleflasher and took the software from there.
you HAVE to flash the hitachi back to stock b4 upgrading.. open the original firmware, make sure it has the correct key, flash using RESTORE not patch. {if using fwtb} after you flash it dump it and check to make sure all is good.
then flash the 1.51 firmware using PATCH {fwtb} ...

does it matter what version of toolbox? i used 4.6 flash seemed to go smoothly everything just like the video. RROD after flash code 0102. no idea if this is related to the flash or not....the box already had no video output but no rrod. :confused:
Fixed the RROD with yet another bake session. Still no video signal, but no more 0102!! so im saying the flash went well. this is super easy, i was a scared little bitch too.
further more im a idiot. flash was fine, windows couldnt see it because slax wont see the flashed drive.... got connectivity kit from diygadget put it in mode b with the switch on the kit. all is well. can read and flash all i want.
just realized temporary unlock means that i just have to unlock it to flash it again next time, thought for a minute that i had to do this every time i wanted to play a game!
great video, it has made me feel confident to do my 79fk. is the software and method which you used still the best solution? also i read something about it being only a temporary unlock?
You have to unlock it and restore it every time, the same with any hitachi.
If you don't, you have a much larger chance of bricking it as I found it about a year ago.
I went to upgrade my hitachi, and just flashed it over a previous iXtreme and it bricked it. I didnt realise I had to restore the stock firmware before upgrading the flash :) Hope that helps

he means that inside jungle flasher there is a little tab that says 79 unlock.. then thers a check box where it says automatic and then underneath it says unlock and click on that and thats it!!
is there a certain type of CD you have to use to burn the 79 unlock onto? or a certain program. i've been using Imgburn and must have messed up at least 6 or 7 disks :P
when i first tried this is didnt work but my drive was fine. Im going to probably attempt to do this again after i make sure that my backupp burn that i got.

Mine froze as well, but got it to work eventually... I couldnt get it to work on Vista, I dunno what you are running but XP worked for me. I restarted everything once, made sure the 79_unlock folder was on the desktop and it worked the 2nd time around.... hope this helps
did you put the 79_unlock folder on the desktop? also make sure that there aren't any sub folders inside the folder you are opening the command prompt window from... that's what made the difference for me, dunno if it was luck, but i think that had something to do with it
you open the command window on the folder itself... in vista you do a shift right click and open command window here... in xp you have to download a little tool so you can be able to do it like that (commandwindowhere) i think is what is called....

Got the drive in my computer (using the dos mode_b command as t-x tutorial - does it make a difference if I use slax?) but when I put the CD in it just hangs or crashes the PC. On occasion it has BSOD it.
Is it vista? Do I need to get xp on there? Or is it the mode_b command from command promt and should I use slax insted?
All help is appreciated, need this drive flashed as it's getting in the way having bits of 360 all over the place.

if anybody else is having this issue, you need to right click the command that came with the 79 download, and run in command and then type in the correct info
Guys, I think the problem everyone who has their computer freeze is that after you pause the drive, you HAVE to eject the CD and take the CD out and put a real Xbox360 game in the tray, BEFORE you run 79unlock x. I had problems with my computer freezing up at that point every single time. Also, do not forget about pressing the eject button 3 times if the game would not stay in after you run the 79unlock x command. Hope it helps out guys.

Im just about to flash my drive but i downloaded the ixtreme1.4 FW and have the 12 speed FW on my desktop. Can i use this or do i need to use the option in the smart patcher?

everything worked fine for me up till the windows part, where windows won't detect my drive at all. my bios only has 2 sata options (dell e510), which are Raid On and Detect Raid/ATA. I've tried both settings, and I've been unsuccessful both times. I've tried scanning in device manager, nothing. I've tried disconnecting & reconnecting drive, nothing either. Does anyone have any ideas for a solution?
what version of maximus firmware tools did you use? i have my 360 open and ready to be flashed, but i've read that the latest version (4.8) has had difficulties with the 79
And isn't this flash just set in RAM, that requires the drive to be connected to the xbox power at all time, to use the memory-battery or something? I though that when you disconnected the power from the drive, it would "wipe out" the unlock.
Dude thank you... note I couldn't play the CD with WMP but just used the CD Player from accessories and it worked like a charm. Saved my 79 from any more torture.. (79key not working as it should!)

My problem is that I cant seem to get in mode B with slax. My motherboard is a MSI K9n2 (nforce 780a) and when using slax it never says "spinning of disc" or anything along those lines.
All it says is :
Ata6 Port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0xFF).
i didnt know textbook was a kid lol, but hey thx textbook this worked great for me, just had the problem with the drive ejecting constantly, but that was fixxed by pushing the eject button 3 times when trying to close the tray Thx again man keep it up
When I read the drive the key is 74747474747474747474 I have gotten the same key one more than one xbox and flashed using that key... The xbox will not play all the games...
Thanks a million 360Mods & Podger! Oh my GAWD! Outstanding! I just dusted off this 360 I received as a 3ROD replacement & now I'm back in business!
Here's some observations with my 79FL flash process:
1) If after putting in Mode B ur drive continually ejects just hit it twice to close then one more time b4 it opens to keep it closed!
2) After I flashed, I found my drive was stuck in Mode B. I had to run Slax 2.1 and re-put it in Mode B, then power down and power back up to normal operation!
OK... how do I actually MAKE a backup using my newly softmodded h079?? XBC doesn't work, schrom doesn't work, xdvdmulleter doesn't work, wxripper doesn't work..
btw, for me, the only way it worked without freezing or error, is getting it to Mode B with VIA VT6421, then, shut off the PC. Unplug the SATA, and put it into the pc motherboard (i have a ICH8). Power up PC "WITHOUT" the drive connected to the Sata.
plug in when you see the windows load bar.
eject/close 2 - 3 times.
now follow all the remaining steps, and it shouldnt freeze anymore.
ya i got the same problem as Ryansways. Got the thing flashe correctly but will only play about 1/2 of my previous backups that all worked correctly on my ms25. Just wondering why this is.
i just looked through the files in the folder. and once i have ejected the disc i take i have to open the 79unlock.bat file in the plscsi folder?
i have not plugged in my drive yet, so when i open this file it says eject the disc. so im guessing once i have the drive is in and ejected at the right point it will let me type in the 79unlock command ?

windows key + R or start - run - cmd then use the old cd to go to the folder. easy if you name the folder 79 and put it in ur c drive so then go to the command and type cd C:\79 and then your in that directory. then just do the 79Unlock X
hi, i was wondering if you could help me with my xbox. i am able to use the unlock cd but after i insert a dvd after the command prompt that says done, my system freezes and it wont eject the disk. i keep tryin but runs into the same problem. at times i can get about half way to dumping the original but then freezes. havnt got to that part in a while. what did you do at this point that i am doing wrong?
seems alot of us are running into the same problems. freezing... i have to redo everything a few times to get it to work. would freeze on windows loading screen and when inserting a dvd.
For the power supply I used my Xbox and had all my cables hooked up to the Xbox its self. To get the data I used my Blaster 360 NE, duh!!

using cheap "creative i/o" sata pci; no "spinning up" but still mode b, then all steps are good up to dump- then "cannot read the disk" in 4.6, classic same result

Why My PC freezes after the command prompt?My drive is in mode B and windows recognized it.Played the 79 unlock cd ,command prompt the freezes..did it many times but still the same.Pls help geniuses..im using Dell 5150 with SATA onboard.Appreciate tour help in advance.

Mine froze as well, but got it to work eventually... I couldnt get it to work on Vista, I dunno what you are running but XP worked for me. I restarted everything once, made sure the 79_unlock folder was on the desktop and it worked the 2nd time around.... hope this helps

did you put the 79_unlock folder on the desktop? also make sure that there aren't any sub folders inside the folder you are opening the command prompt window from... that's what made the difference for me, dunno if it was luck, but i think that had something to do with it

you open the command window on the folder itself... in vista you do a shift right click and open command window here... in xp you have to download a little tool so you can be able to do it like that (commandwindowhere) i think is what is called....

Im still iffy about modding a 360 you said in this video you didnt have to open up your xbox360 well dont you have to open it up and switch the drive or what ever, and when you mod it i always heard you can get ban how many people have got ban from xbox live ? it seems like alot of work taking it apart the right drive i heard there is different types of drive and grounding the system, using the software ,also what if you have vista i see alot of people using xp when hacking the system

cant get it to do it in Vista.
Got the drive in my computer (using the dos mode_b command as t-x tutorial - does it make a difference if I use slax?) but when I put the CD in it just hangs or crashes the PC. On occasion it has BSOD it.
Is it vista? Do I need to get xp on there? Or is it the mode_b command from command promt and should I use slax insted?
All help is appreciated, need this drive flashed as it's getting in the way having bits of 360 all over the place.

Exact same thing with me, but I used SLAX. Ive just installed XP instead to do it, im going to try tommorrow and post my results. ;)

get to raw dump screen and then when I click on raw dump no window opens and about 20sec later it says cannot read drive.
when I click on classic a window pops up wierd

Guys, I think the problem everyone who has their computer freeze is that after you pause the drive, you HAVE to eject the CD and take the CD out and put a real Xbox360 game in the tray, BEFORE you run 79unlock x. I had problems with my computer freezing up at that point every single time. Also, do not forget about pressing the eject button 3 times if the game would not stay in after you run the 79unlock x command. Hope it helps out guys.

I got everything right until getting the dvd movie, then my xbox turns off automaticly, no lights at all, and when you go to my pc the drive is gone, any ideas???

keep the av cords plugged in, the xbox automaticaly shuts off after 5 mins wihtout those cords plugged in
and it CANNOT be hdmi, it has to be the colored cords

i booted from slax 2.1 and i turn on my xbox shortly after it starts or right after,then slax runs for a while then it stops on looking usb support and its on that for a while then after a while my pc screen just goes blank anyone have any ideas? also it says there may be a kernal error?

i'm stuck. i think i got into mode B but the drive keeps ejecting. i can close it by pressing tray button 3 times but the activity light is constantly blinking even when booted into winXP. it doesn't recognized by winXP though. i'm using power source from xbox360, could this be the problem? cuz x360's dashboard is in check w/ the drive even w/o direct sata to the console. let me know. thanks.

Im just about to flash my drive but i downloaded the ixtreme1.4 FW and have the 12 speed FW on my desktop. Can i use this or do i need to use the option in the smart patcher?

everything worked fine for me up till the windows part, where windows won't detect my drive at all. my bios only has 2 sata options (dell e510), which are Raid On and Detect Raid/ATA. I've tried both settings, and I've been unsuccessful both times. I've tried scanning in device manager, nothing. I've tried disconnecting & reconnecting drive, nothing either. Does anyone have any ideas for a solution?

I am wondering about the same thing.
And isn't this flash just set in RAM, that requires the drive to be connected to the xbox power at all time, to use the memory-battery or something? I though that when you disconnected the power from the drive, it would "wipe out" the unlock.

Dude thank you... note I couldn't play the CD with WMP but just used the CD Player from accessories and it worked like a charm. Saved my 79 from any more torture.. (79key not working as it should!)

Once again thank you and GJ to all the people involved.
My problem is that I cant seem to get in mode B with slax. My motherboard is a MSI K9n2 (nforce 780a) and when using slax it never says "spinning of disc" or anything along those lines.
All it says is :
Ata6 Port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0xFF).
Please any help I would deeply apreciate it.

When I read the drive the key is 74747474747474747474 I have gotten the same key one more than one xbox and flashed using that key... The xbox will not play all the games...

Thanks a million 360Mods & Podger! Oh my GAWD! Outstanding! I just dusted off this 360 I received as a 3ROD replacement & now I'm back in business!
Here's some observations with my 79FL flash process:
1) If after putting in Mode B ur drive continually ejects just hit it twice to close then one more time b4 it opens to keep it closed!
2) After I flashed, I found my drive was stuck in Mode B. I had to run Slax 2.1 and re-put it in Mode B, then power down and power back up to normal operation!

btw, for me, the only way it worked without freezing or error, is getting it to Mode B with VIA VT6421, then, shut off the PC. Unplug the SATA, and put it into the pc motherboard (i have a ICH8). Power up PC "WITHOUT" the drive connected to the Sata.
plug in when you see the windows load bar.
eject/close 2 - 3 times.
now follow all the remaining steps, and it shouldnt freeze anymore.

i just looked through the files in the folder. and once i have ejected the disc i take i have to open the 79unlock.bat file in the plscsi folder?
i have not plugged in my drive yet, so when i open this file it says eject the disc. so im guessing once i have the drive is in and ejected at the right point it will let me type in the 79unlock command ?

when you say open 79 command window you mean 79unlock.exe correct? When I open the exe it quickly closes. Is there a fix for this? or am I heading in the wrong direction? Thanks

windows key + R or start - run - cmd then use the old cd to go to the folder. easy if you name the folder 79 and put it in ur c drive so then go to the command and type cd C:\79 and then your in that directory. then just do the 79Unlock X

hi, i was wondering if you could help me with my xbox. i am able to use the unlock cd but after i insert a dvd after the command prompt that says done, my system freezes and it wont eject the disk. i keep tryin but runs into the same problem. at times i can get about half way to dumping the original but then freezes. havnt got to that part in a while. what did you do at this point that i am doing wrong?

seems alot of us are running into the same problems. freezing... i have to redo everything a few times to get it to work. would freeze on windows loading screen and when inserting a dvd.

For the power supply I used my Xbox and had all my cables hooked up to the Xbox its self. To get the data I used my Blaster 360 NE, duh!!

using cheap "creative i/o" sata pci; no "spinning up" but still mode b, then all steps are good up to dump- then "cannot read the disk" in 4.6, classic same result
