@yeequon at school, Our county gives us laptops, and we're getting dells( i think they're netbooks though ) next year. :D It's an Ibook G4, and some people's batteries capacity is 30% and from 2004. My battery was like that but the capacity was 70% and it cut off every time i used it. I went to the help desk and got a new battery from 2009.

I'm getting an iBook G4 with the following specs:

1GB RAM

1.42 GHz Power PC

120GB HDD (Which I plan to upgrade)

Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11

It comes with iLife 09, iWork 09, office 08 in box (It's not installed yet). And it comes with a copy of Retail Leopard if I want to upgrade.

If I install iLife and iWork, stillon Tiger, it'll be decent fast right? P_P

WAIT! You can NOT install iLife 09 on 10.4.11 (Tiger)! It REQUIRES Leopard to run! iWork 09 works fine. I'd say, upgrade the hard drive then install Leopard. Otherwise, it would be a waste of time. Thats my 2 cents!

@shapen360 The iBook G4 is the generation before the MacBook. You can not buy an iBook G4 in Apple stores anymore due to the fact that the MacBook replaced it. I've used an iBook G4 before and they run at a good speed, but the MacBooks can get as fast as lightning! I own a MacBook and I'm very happy with it.

oooh! don't even waste your money on that piece of crap. You'd be better off with a MacBook or MacBook Pro. The air is SLOW. It has like 1.6 & 1.8 GHz. Compared to the 2.5 GHz that the macbook pro can do the air is useless. Even the macbook has up to 2.4 GHz! lol so I say don't waste your money on the Air

wow! for only 20 bucks, anyways, your iBook can run smoothly Leopard, i'll tell you the specs that you need to run Leopard:

1. PPC G4 Processor running at 867Mhz or more

2. 512MB of RAM

3. DVD-ROM Drive for installation

4. 9GB of available hard drive space, also, if you didn't know, Leopard runs more quickly than Tiger, cheers!

its not all dependant on hardware, sure hardware is a contributing factor, but come on a new MacBook out of the box, against and old iBook G4 the Macbook will win because of the clean unfragmented hdd, while the G4 is used probably not defraged and probably has quite a bit of stuff on the hdd. I think the I book is stil a good notebook judging from this test the difference is not off that much.

you want to see a slow and long boot up, test a mac book

against a Windows XP notebook. you will teally see a difference. wondows is slow at starting up no matter how RAM or CPU Power you have it still takes long. take it from me I use Windows.

There's so many variables in this test that make the MBP an obvious winner.. Faster ram bas, faster CPU bus, faster and different CPU altogether... It's like comparing a Dodge Neon to an Enzo Ferrari... Get a G4 1.67ghz PowerBook, that'd be a closer comparison.
