There is NO WAY Prince is a copy of Hendrix or anyone else. He is totally original and can play ANY music genre with technical excellence and total passion. Watch his solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the 2004 VH-1 trubute to George Harrison. It compares to Clapton's solo of the same song. Considering the guy masters 21 instruments, is an expert music producer, has a vocal range out of this world and is a celebrated choreographer AND songwriter, he is HARDLY a copy of Hendrix.

As someone who discovered Prince in 1979, recognized his genius then and do so today, let me inform those of you who only know Prince from Purple Rain and YTube. Look up Venus DeMilo, Strollin, Get It Up by The Time (all instruments played by Prince), and Adore. He is not a virtuoso. Virtuoso's attempt to be him.
I rather listen to someone with feeling over technical ability. Steve vai's best song was "for the love of God" because for once he played from the heart. BTW. That song was mostly using the pentatonic scale.

Sometimes it takes years after the artist/musician is gone before people properly acknowledge their genius. You don't have to like the artist, to recognise it. @lapmarty Sorry to jump in but I think you missed the main point of music. That would be the emotion that an artist can convey to an audience. Technical ability is great and impressive. However it in my opinion as a Lover of music first and a Guitarist second, it is much more impressive when someone's music makes me feel something. For example four power chords played in the right context can often times be much more moving than the fastest or most difficult run or scale or arpeggio.

@stevie69ful I am a huge fan of guitar. I have been playing for over 13 years. I know guitars inside and out. I can build them and play them. I know many amazing guitarists. Some in person and some from listening to there music in concert or on the radio etc. I would like to say you are right. If you are a fan a of music or a certain musician it does no good to talk trash. I hated prince till I heard him play guitar after that I totally knew why so many people liked his music.

For example look at almost any list of top guitarists you almost always find Jimi Hendrix. The Beatles get more credit than they deserve. There is NO WAY Prince is a copy of Hendrix or anyone else. He is totally original and can play ANY music genre with technical excellence and total passion. Watch his solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the 2004 VH-1 trubute to George Harrison. It compares to Clapton's solo of the same song. Considering the guy masters 21 instruments, is an expert music producer, has a vocal range out of this world and is a celebrated choreographer AND songwriter, he is HARDLY a copy of Hendrix.

@lapmarty Sorry to jump in but I think you missed the main point of music. That would be the emotion that an artist can convey to an audience. Technical ability is great and impressive. However it in my opinion as a Lover of music first and a Guitarist second, it is much more impressive when someone's music makes me feel something. For example four power chords played in the right context can often times be much more moving than the fastest or most difficult run or scale or arpeggio.

I believe my previous posts answered it. I never try to prove God. God doesn't try to prove Himself, it just starts "In the beginning God..." No proof, just knowing or ignorance. If I could empirically prove God then coming to Him would not be by faith. He desires a relationship that is by faith. And that all begins with Him, as He imparts faith to those He chooses.
