Avoid feeding it lettuce like iceberg lettuce. It has little nutritional value, but many iguanas love it because it is so moist. They can become "picky eaters" and not eat other things they are given because they prefer it, becoming lettuce junkies. Anytime you pick it up, I would grab the base of the tail first, then the body with the other hand. This makes it a lot harder for it to tail whip you if it's ticked off. I have scars from trying to catch my iguana when she escaped outdoors.
My iguana, Johnny, loved to eat sweet potato or squash baby food. And lots of dark leafy greens. Mustard greens were his favorite. Actually, Johnny was a female. I found out when she laid eggs.

That side to side pushing behavior looks more like a defensive posture to me. I had iguanas as pets, "Beastie" living to 11 years, and when he did that it meant "quit touching me!" Do find a vet with reptile experience, and get blood work done every year or so to make sure his calcium and potassium levels are good. Thanks for sharing the video. all your videos reminds me of a friend of mine.he has (at the moment) 25 pets (including some boa babys) he owns 2 adult boa constrictor,2 iguanas, 2 bearded dragons, a dog (persian greyhound),a macaw and a horse, and all of them come along good with each other, I've seen it! well, the horse does not know the reptiles, nor otherwise, but it knows the dog and they come along great! they don't battle, they just live side by side ^^ it's so nice to see, that other animals come along so great too ^^
Watch their tails, they can break your skin. Mine died when it was really young since I only had it as a kid and couldn't take it to the vet. But it did whip me and it hurt like hell, lol.
Make sure you bring the iguana into the house when you get cold weather. We lost a huge part of the iguana population in So. Fla. this past winter due to the unusual cold. That is not entirely bad news because they have become a problem here, but if one is your pet you will certainly not feel that way. BTW, they are not native here but have been dumped by former owners, for the most part.
Sharky is the most loving creature I have ever seen! Sharky could not care less what species the animal is -- he loves all his fellow animal friends equally. What an exceptional pit bull dog!

I had a long struggle trying to save an iguana with Metabolic Bone Disease. It was heart breaking. It's avoided by giving them the right food with calcium and UV exposure.
Taking him outdoors is the best thing you can do for him. No matter how good the lighting set up you have inside, nothing beats the real UV rays. Feed him a very varied diet of dark greens as well as squash, fruits and other veggies. Experiment. But be sure to check out the websites to see which foods are best and which aren't.

You can google "iguana care" and find some really good info. They do require a bit of work, heat lamps, UV lamps, baths, a certain amount of hours of light and super dark. They also require huge cages. But they are awesome. Just watch those tails, they whip! lol
