i was watching a programe on it ..

the o rings failed on the right booster which leaked gas and burnt thro the fuel tank and make it explode.. orings hold the segmants together

it failed because it was a cooled dat and let fire leak out..

also after the crash nasa found out tht 3 of the emergency oxgen in the helmets wer activated so tht means 3 of the pilots survived the exploshon but when hit the pacific and died..

i wastched it on a programme "seconds from disatser"

It was very cold that day. The solid rocket booster is put together in sections and each section is sealed with rubber O-rings. These O-rings shrank from the cold temperature and allowed some hot exhaust gasses to make their way back into the solid rocket fuel. This, of course, caused the explosion of the solid rocket booster.

Not quite. The hot gas that escaped the defective o-ring burned a hole through the white solid rockets and into the brown liquid fuel tank, which then ruptured explosively. Just doing what I can to stop misinformation.
