  • ...just trying to save some money to pay for the rest of your haircut

  • Excellent - this is the clearest video for changing pads I've looked at. Thanks. Oh, and I'm not cheap either, just broke.

  • everyone safe on the road any way you have to do it. Thanks for the video - much appreciated.

  • can i not to machine the brake disc just install the brake only ?

  • pretty simple. :)

  • Thanks!

  • 0_o ... dat look easy..

  • Thanks.

  • Brake rodeo

  • Short and to the point. Thanks!

  • If you're trying to compress the piston with the clamp like that and find it very difficult, try cracking the lid on the master cylinder. This will relieve any pressure stopping the piston. Just be sure to check the fluid doesn't overflow!

  • What about bleeding the brakes though?

  • im 16 and am in Auto Motive Tech.. This helps alot (: Should help me pass :D

  • Im not cheap I am 'Do it yourself kind of guy'

  • Comment removed

  • cool

  • I've taken a couple years of basic automotive courses and this video gets straight to the point and can show even a novice how to properly install brake pads. Two thumbs up guys!

  • Now this was a good video, especially for the person that doesn't really give a crap what all the parts technical names are. Good to the point and made easy. I feel like i actually understand how to do it myself now THANKS.

  • haha he broke my manhood within his first two sentences, "youre too cheap to bring it to me, so you decided to do it yourself"

  • @JackDaniels4ever13

Rear pistons must be (screwed) back in. If you do it otherwise you will brake it.

    Regarz

  • Hmm in the north (Estonia) we use cupper paste for the sliders. That expands the lifetime of sliders. Also you have to check for rust between piston and dustcover before pushing back the piston. If there is rust you have to clean it properly. And one more thing BEFORE TESTING PUMP THE BRAKES SO PADS WILL MOVE TO ROTOR.

  • hey so what about the brake pad fuel? were not suppose to change it or drain it,when were changing the brakes?

  • @JackDaniels4ever13 Take the cap off the brake fluid resovoir so the piston can retract. You shouldn't be breaking c-clamps on your caliper pistons... if you need to force something that hard, you're doing something wrong.

  • Short, sweet (somewhat lol), and to the point. THANKS! Now i dont have to watch 30 videos from expertvillage to do the samething :]

  • I wonder if Robert's ever had his short bolt stuck in the long hole.

  • Very clear ,concise and instructional. Good job

  • Little confused on the C-Clamp. Is it safe to assume that once that piston is back in place you can remove the Clamp and it will stay? Other than that, It looks like something I could do once I get my hoist installed.

  • amazing how he keeps his shirt white.

  • @JT91sg what did he flinged? at .38?

  • Awsome video! im a first timer at changing break pads...or at just about doing anything other than turning on the car lol but this video is very helpful thank you.

  • thx nice video, learned a lot. Trying to save $169 and change brake pads myself.

  • Spelling and how to: Spelling Brakes...

  • good luck to me. im going to try changing my brake pads :D need to learn some^^ Thanks!

  • Great fast and friendly video thank great help

  • I would like to see details of how to clean and lube things up properly. This

is a great video but it assumes you know this already.

When you press the piston back in don't you need to open the bleeder valve

or take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir to avoid problems?

"You're too cheap to bring it to me"

No ass hat, Goons like you are too expensive, that's why we do it ourselves. Your comment was pathetic, just like you moose.

  • @canadaeast He makes a video to show us how to do this job and you insult him? I'm sure it wasn't directed at anyone specifically but apparently you took it personally. So from now on, you're, "Cheap ass", on this thread. Feel free to reply, I'm looking forward to it.

  • @acid135690

I am glad you are so offended by my comment. This video truly sucks American ass. No wonder the world hates you.

  • @canadaeast LOL, me, offended by a child? Preposterous! Look Cheap Ass, take the video for what it's worth, an informative piece and stop bitching on the interwebz. Deal with your anger/self esteem issues behind closed doors. kthx

  • @acid135690

Child...hmm I would suggest you mind your business and stop hiding behind your mommys keyboard.....coward.

  • I can't thank persons like yourself enough. Getting professional and accurate information from a trained professional can be very hard as many professionals don't want the general populace to know so they are dependent on mechanics. Should consider putting paypal information up as I would be willing to donate 5 - 10 dollars to persons like you for sharing your expertise.

  • My Toyota 2003 inspection was rejected and they said "rear brakes worn" and the estimate is $350; do they mean the brake pads??it goes on ebay for only $22; can I buy it there and have them change the pads?

  • @handsometall28 if it has disk brakes in the rear, then replacing the pads would probably be sufficient unless there is ridiculous wear on the rotors

  • @handsometall28 make sure they meant pads, and not pads & rotors. also make sure the pads you found on ebay are for your particular model. and to be honest, they probably get pads from their supplier for about the same or less, but will charge you the moon for labour, so you might as well learn to do it yourself, and save yourself hundreds AND learn something new :D

  • now this is how you make a brake pad video

  • This is a pretty easy video to understand, i was just wondering i thought you were supposed to bleed the brake fluid before you puch the piston back in??

  • Thanks guys.

  • God Bless America - thanks for the vid

  • "You're too cheap to bring it to me to have your brakes checked properly, so you decide to do it yourself". LOL yep, that pretty much sums it up for me:) Plus, it's satisfying to do it yourself. It's an accomplishment.

  • easy peasy lemon squeezy

  • brake, not break.

  • @macmurati yeah you're right, but that's not the point here

  • @macmurati i was thinking the EXACT same thing

  • too cheap to bring it to me! AWESOME and true!

  • @leepastrana it would be pretty expensive to ship a car over just for one mechanic to replace the break pads

  • wow great video, quick and a lot of imformation givin!! thanks!!!

  • this was by far the easiest video to understand!

    thank you

  • Very informative, thanks!

  • how far does the piston of the caliper have to go back?

  • @beewizie as far back as you can get it with the c-clamp.

  • thanks alot for the video its very helpfull

  • oui répare mon auto t tellement viril quand tu te scars suxx like amripain XDhihi never understand how canadian fell

  • thanks

  • thanks dude!

  • check out car repair at enginemisfire, com

  • he snaped good vid

  • get it tight with a finger start

  • imma make sure i finger start it lol

  • dont forget to pump the brake pedal a few times before driving off!

  • $250 from the pros or $45 in your driveway

  • @Tastyturds

i used to change oil and oil filter myself but i find it messy and didn't save me a lot of money so now i take it to a garage. is changing brake pads similar deal? is it true that u can save $205 by doing it yourself ($250 vs $45)?

  • @KhmerD0g I'd say yes, if you have a few pieces of equipment and a little know how it's way worth it. Any place I've called to have my brakes/rotors replaced (including drum brakes on the back) cost on average $500, for me to replace all my own stuff including new drums/rotors/drum springs/pads etc set me back about $200 (not including equipment, such as tools, brake cleaner etc) so I actually save about $300.

  • I'm to smart to bring my car to people for simple stuff, that I could do myself ^^ without being scammed for to much money.

  • he forgot copper grease on the outer side of the pad to stop it making that horrible streeching vibration noise

  • Great video!!! How do you know which one is the inner break pad and the outer break pad?

  • @flipone01 pretty sure the outer pad has some sort of clip or sensor

  • Thats the first thing I thought. Lets use an impact gun to put it back on.

  • good instructor

  • you are a great instructor!

  • and now you're ready to change your front br-disk-brakes

  • @ChangedLikeCallisto HAHAHHAHAHHAHAH!!!! I love how we watched this 8 million times today<333

  • by the looks of it he's to cheap to get a sensible haircut. lol looking like searg. off Street Fighter EX3.

  • no brake grease?

  • @GraceInCharge Brake grease?

  • fuckin yourube every video got fuckin commercial today

  • @Vucijak86 F5!! It gets the job done!!

  • @Vucijak86 hahaha yourube

  • nice job

  • Really helpful - thanks. Also when you're pushing the piston pack in make sure that you unscrew your brake fluid cap to let out any excess fluid.

  • thanks man i m gonna change the brakes on my dads Honda today ha ha hopefully it comes out right

  • make sure you pump your brake pedal before you try and mve your car

  • @oilers900 haha I know this too well. Has happened twice in the shop I work at. Second time just happened yesterday. Kid didn't pump the brakes and the car flew across the shop and hit another vehicle that was fully raised on the hoist; thankfully it didn't fall off but much damage was still done.

  • Awesome! Thank you so much.

  • Brake not break

  • @beerman92701

we mechanics arent the best spellers

  • Anyone use grease on the pads when installing them? I got some brake pads and it came with a little packet of grease but I've seen like 4 vid and no one uses grease?!?!

  • @phobia1961 u can put some on the back of your pad NOT THE SIDE THATS GONNA RUB WITH THE ROTOR

its not something u have to do but it helps a bit with the noise.

  • Awesome and very informative!!!!

  • might be the best serias of how to do it yourself ....

  • Amazing! Thank you so much!

  • Comment removed

  • thank you thank you thank you for the simple vid. best vid out there. had to wade waist deep through crappy vids till i found this.

  • @yellowgeko I was wading right behind your wake!

  • best fucking "how to" vid out there!!! fuck expert village!

  • @fuckiraq12

    i effin hate expert village

  • Brilliant vid... very simple

  • Aye, Bro made that shit look so easy.

  • Aye, Bro made that shit look so easy.

  • when u pushed the piston back into the caliper, dont u have to open the master cylinder cap so it wont leak out

  • dnt forget to pump brakes a few time before driving

  • WOW!!!! Thanx! took me about an hour to change 'em. You kick ass.

  • Hey thanks a lot man u made it so simple.

  • i just did it , it took me 1 hour for both. thanks

  • Looks pretty easy. Drum brakes are a pain in the dick though. Too bad my car has both. :P

  • damn, he made that look easy

  • How do you replace the flux capacitor?

  • How much an auto parts store charge for having your rotors resufaced?

  • simple! thnx

  • Thanks, that's really helpful. Nice flattop, too! Reminds me I need to go see my barber!

  • Very simple. Thanks.

  • you alway make it look so easy.... some people have to go under to check their brakes.... i ain't cheap i'm reeally really poor. there are like different types of brakes on different cars right? thabks for the vid.

  • @Navlek79 yeah there are. as far as car maintenance goes, i might as well be doing brain surgery. but if you go into nappa or whatever they should have a computer that'll tell you what you need. so you'll select your make, model and year and it'll suggest "Bob's breaks- model X262" or whatever. then you find the box and buy them.

  • Thanks man, I'm a car retard and I just dominated my break pads because of this video.

  • Song name please.

  • I'm a little confused....you began the vid with the rotor already off? But then at the end of the video the brakes slide over the top of the rotor? Did you remove the rotor without having to remove the brakes 1st somehow? Sorry to be a dumb-A. = )

  • @Vvajk He began the vid with the wheels off, the rotor is still on.

  • @BlackMambaMusic DOH! You're right! I didn't catch that the first time. Thanks!

  • do you change the pistons? or leave the ones that were in there?

  • I have seen a few brake video on here. This is by far the best. You were honest and to the point.

  • thanks !!! you just saved me $212.03 =]

  • he forgot to bleed the brakes and theres got to be another way to resurface the rotor not everyone will hav that machine.

  • @joeaccord23 That's called buying a new rotor.

  • that was a fucken good video !!

  • nice vid man, thumbs up!

  • My first reaction to too cheap was FU, I'll find another video

  • @Sillyjake86 You'll not find a more to the point and easy explanation of how to replace your brakes. If you really think he was talking directly to you, get a life. Your mom is upstairs, she says your peanut butter and jelly sandwich is ready you child.

  • @lothar982 Guess my humor and sarcasm didn't come across on the net. Not that I care, usually I'd say dude, chill out, I wasn't serious. But with that kind of comment, I'll just say fuck you dumb ass, I can't believe I'm even humoring you by commenting on your bullshit reply. I must be bored right now. But being you like this guy so much, you should try to get a date or something. I could so take that further, but I'm not going to put myself on your level son. Lol, piss off, thanks.

  • if the piston wont compress on the back brakes, see if the e brake is on. take it off and if it still doesnt work than you have to use this specail cube tool. the piston twists to compress insteead of pressing. took me fooorrrever to figure that one out

  • What size of CClamp was used ?

  • sweet. i thought that involved bleeding the brakes

  • @xXACBULLDOGSXx me too

  • Its not that i'm cheap, I just don't have ANY trust in mechanics.

  • @Haukenslush i know

  • good video short and easy simple steps

  • thanks

  • i hope this works *Crosses fingers*

  • Ref: 2:50

What can I use to lube the sliders?

  • what tools do you need. do you need a spline?

  • aren't you supposed to bleed the line @ the end?

  • did he just call us cheap?

nice showing of the c clamp on the piston howev

  • Hey Robert, I'd appreciate you not getting grease all over my new pads and rotors, thanks.

When installing new brake parts, cleanliness is key. Always clean parts with brake part cleaner and avoid getting greasy fingers all over your new pads and rotors. New rotors also have a coating on them to protect the surface during shipping. This needs to be cleaned off with a brake parts cleaner before installation.

  • LOL, Cause you're too cheap to bring it to me! HAHAHHAAHA, Awesome!

  • @donmateo25 It aint about being cheap, it's about being sensible. Why pay someone a 100 bucks at a shop to change ya break pads when you can do it yourself

  • @Smileyfacedkiller It's a direct quote from your video.......

  • @Smileyfacedkiller It's a direct quote from the video.......

  • @Smileyfacedkiller you know what I'm saying.. it only makes sense to learn things dude.

  • Nice video,thanks for uploading.

  • This is a good video!

  • Thank you for this video, its sure help a lots

  • The over of this video should disable comments. Too many trolls.

  • I keep spelling brakes, breaks. Sorry. =/

  • Thanks for this video! I replaced the breaks on my ninety-four Ford Tempo using this video. It took a few hours because we had to disconnect the break line then use a crow bar to force the break piston to release the fluid stored up in it, but after that it was a breeze. The new breaks work like a charm!

  • @SaviorSixtySix sure they do

  • @gaggotgaggot Yeah, they do. I don't know why you're hating this guy so much.

  • @SaviorSixtySix he hasnt a clue

  • @gaggotgaggot Well he must, considering he made a video that I was able to use and change my break pads. You can say all the crap you want about what he's doing, but I'm thankful he made this video. It saved me a lot of money.

  • @SaviorSixtySix oh shut up you complete idiot

  • Video extremely well done! Just like having a knowledgeable friend giving you tips on what to do (and importantly, what NOT to do). Well appreciated- thank you!

  • you complete idiot, you havent a clue what you are doing, you should be arrested befor you get someone killed.

  • @gaggotgaggot

explain why... also feel free to make you own, better, more informative video and post it as a response to this if you know something he doesnt. i think he did a hell of a job. you need to go compress your head in a table mounted clamp and stop compressing keys on your keyboard because you have absolutely nothing to offer the internet what so ever.

  • @macditty he dosent know what he is doing. his job will put people's lives at risk.

  • @gaggotgaggot

ok what did he do wrong? not what did he leave out. but what did he do that was wrong? he didnt mention not to let the caliper hang, or to inspect the hoses, to clean the parts or to grease them...

but what did he do that will get you killed? maybe its the king hill-billy in me but i didnt see anything, is there a part im missing?

  • @macditty have anothe look at that video. he is a complete idiot, he did not do it to manufactures instructions. he should be arrested and not allowed to post anymore videos on youtube
