Would it kill then to play Let's Active, The dB's or even the Three O'Clock? Yes it would. I saw them play "Her Head's Revolving" by the Three O'Clock back in 1995 and the audience sounded like crickets when the song was finished. BUT, they had fans standing on their ears to "Major Tom."
Look folks, even the Beatles had to play the top of the pops to eat. Check out an Absolute 80s show and you might just get a Sparks classic included. Just sayin.
Too optimistic, give them some Joy Division and Smiths songs to learn. The Specials "Ghost town" was no 1 during the Royal Wedding. Remember the Brixton Riots, Falklands War, Miner's strike and 3 million unemployed. Don't cry or your mascara will run and this applies to men as well. Just keep dancing! The music gets you through.
These guys put on a great show! If you ever get a chance to see them live, you must go. It's just a lot of fun. If you take it seriously, you're missing the point. Even this ad is a play on those cheesy late night TV ads plugging 80s compilations. Nice work!
@mpagner I can't take it seriously and I can't take it lightly...I just simply can't take it. Would it have killed them to play a song that didn't ride Kasey Casem's top 40 for months at a stretch?!?
@ajdicks I think they are just giving the people what they want, so don't blame the band. Blame the audience. It probably wouldn't kill them to play a song that was outside of Top 40, but the audience heads for the restroom, talks and is generally non-responsive. I've seen them try something different and seen it fail immensely. The audience rules, for better or worse.
@mpagner Radio or MTV hits are fine. Hell i'd even be fine if they played stuff off video games or commercials. Just no number ones please. I mean, the only things missing from this list are "Billie Jean", "Like a Virgin", "Every Breath You Take", and "Ghostbusters" If it was number one for more than a month, it should gradually be phased out. The audience will adapt.
The band uses a Roland Juno-106 and two Moog Rouges, in addition to a Korg M-1 and the aforementioned Steinberger bass and several frightening Peavey, Westone, Jackson, B.C. Rich and Fender Elite guitars from the decade.

Hmmm, interesting. Do they use vintage instruments and gear from that decade?

Yep, for the most part. You can see a Steinberger in several sections of the vid and an electronic drum kit.
