For the price.. I have no problem not having motorized faders!!! I bought a 16.4.2. a few weeks ago and LOVE IT!!!! The easiest to use digital mixer on the market.. and it sounds great!
if i use this in live gig, will i still need to use external eq's for my 4 mix monitors or it already has the eq's with it in the 16.4 version?and do i still need to use a driverack px for the my main powered speakers?and how about in the 24.4 version?thanks.
I got one of these, just need to fighure out which laptop to get.,.. If you dont understand what this desk does you WILLL be a hater... I have converted a few people to respect this now hahaha...
@Albigatnz - I'd Buy a Macbook Pro. Windows will let you down. I wouldn't trust windows to be able to handle 16+ inputs for recording. I own a macbook pro and its perfect.
Does anyone here dislike Digi Design AD/DA Converters? or is it just me... Presonus Xmax Preamp is wicked. i currently have 2x8ch firestudios, 16ch via firewire to Mac. i love it. although all the flexibilty has been put into this 16.4.2 Console. i am now considering upgrading to 2 of these consoles, both for live and recording... and YES! $4k AUD is a little steep. but i know a guy... lol
Factory Sound? They're all pretty cool. Was about to get dbx 166xl compressor and 1231 geq plus efx and rack to put it in. screw four castors and tow it to the gig! cause i got no room left in the car!
But this desk lokks the best option for me. As far as weight and size, will fit in the wagon.
goin to sell my mackie 1640 in road ready case and swap to one of these. who would you recommend buying from in oz?
Factory Sound in South Melbourne Victoria are by far the best option. purely because they are authorized dealers of Presonus gear. i've had presonus gear die on me, and their understanding is very helpful in rectifying the situation i found myself in.
Studio Live is a learning curve within itself. i would, personally, have a few weeks testing and playing with the console off gig before taking it on the road. just so that i know the "ins" and "outs" of the console :P lol
Protools locks you into using Digidesign or M-audio hardware ... and that limits your options. Digidesign hardware is a LOT more expensive for what you can get with other brands and it really is not any better.
So, even though it does not "suck", it is something I would not personally buy.
Yeah I am aware of that (although some are not, it is always interesting to find out), but it is not a valid argument for why the software is bad. I am training on a few different software's at the moment, pro tools is fine.
Yeah I was worried about that too..but it does tell you where the faders were...ultimately this blows away my previous mixer which had motorized faders. Takes roughly 20 seconds to your faders back.
Nice "live" mixer!!! As far as studio work goes, Digidesigns Pro Tools can not be beat. Regardless, this does seem like a very nice live piece. How, exactly will it be intragated to allow for the use of say two of them together? What date is Presonus targeting as an official release date? Thank you.
Frankly, none is better than the other..The idea is that you record analog(which all do) and edit and mix it. They all serve this process...Some are easier than others to work with , thats all. Then it's up to you plug-ins. This mixer sounds like a bargain though..I'm going to get one..Can't find anything close for the money.
Up to four can be linked together via Firewire for 64 inputs for live SR. Two can be linked for recording 32 simultaneous tracks at 48k. There is a hardware piece that enables you to bolt two of them together, giving a "single console" feel. When you link the boards, all the busses and subgroups link as well, with the exception of the effects busses, giving two effects engines per 16 channel block. Definitely flexible for the money. Sounds good too.
This doesn't have motorized faders? I'll pass.

BUT! looks like i'll need an O1v for my theatre gigs. 10 headsets alternating on stage would grant the need for moving faders...

Bit more constructive in your feedback, why don't you like Pro Tools?
