  • Thumbs up if the thumbs down should be disabled!

  • None smoother than this one rite here

  • святой негр музыкант

  • Coltrane man... him and Tyner make this song amazing. Nobody notes the bassist though...the bass line it self is great, but the bassist just adds the next element.

This song is just amazing, one of my favorite Coltrane songs (after Giant Steps and My Favorite Things)

  • John was the man. A pioneer indeed.

  • Bottom line: listening to John Coltrane's music will make anyone a better person. He is a positive force in the world.

  • What after GOD Created the whole world & everything in it including you 3rd PR ,,,you still call that lame, are you serious? GOD Loves you that is why HE GOD sent HIS Son JESUS CHRIST down into this world to die for you & me & everybody that exists & exited so that if we Repent & put our trust in JESUS & believe that HE died on that cruel cross for us we have Eternal life its that simple , a FREE GIFT that we don,t have too pay for because JESUS has paid it for us Already isn,t that AMAZING

  • My body is gone, and all that remains is the pocket of this tune.

I feel the rhythm soaking briskly, while shit around me moves soundlessly

Filth blues at its best ladies and gentlemen

  • Coltrane is Beethoven re-incarnated.

  • cold. wheathers right. bring heaters.

  • Well thats just the way I see it , I,m sorry you don,t see it that way but I too used to play the saxaphone for many a year and Coltranes playing always seems very spiritual to me , He has always been the only player out there to have this quality about him, its as if that while he plays he is seeking and along his journey he seems to have found HIM and therefore chooses to praise HIM.

  • Gods words clutter my thoughts with fear, and stress of trying to uphold an unreachable stranded from an unruly entity.

  • 14 people are deaf...

  • trane , blowin his soul out ....thanks man

  • Coltrane is one of the Kings, but I've never liked how little consideration or attention is ever given to "bands" in jazz. The quartet of Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones was one of the greatest. They are all responsible for the tunes they played together, not just Coltrane. That being said, I'm not sure if this is THAT quartet. :) I'm assuming that McCoy Tyner is on the keys here at least.

  • When I hear this I wanna smoke cigarettes and drink bourbon at 1 in the morning in a shady jazz club in the south side of chicago

  • @IAmTheNietzsche I concur. The Cotton Club out south or The Green Mill up north.....it wouldn't even matter. Oh, and the smokes would have to be Pall Malls.

  • @IAmTheNietzsche I'd like to meet you there. ;)

  • The "like/dislike" button should be turned off as the "Vote Bot know nothings" will always attempt to ruin what they could never understand even if they had 9 lives to attempt to get it.

  • Fabulous and so powerful jazz by a master...Mr. Coltrane.

  • I play this tune a lot it is hypnotic from the first note you blow JC vie is in ya head so much; like he is carrying you through the tune MAJIC

  • this song has forever changed my life in a better way thank you john coltrane.and for the people who disliked yall must be wack!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for sharing

  • @rafiki305 - I love everything, Thank You and when I do my video – I hope to so as well as you and even surpass your good work – I have saved in private play list - listening and watching your video as I type these words – Thanks for the Upload

  • @polymath7 Yeah, I think you're right.

  • minor 12-bar blues *

  • Ok, I'll be sensible now.

I'm an alto sax player too (Let's face it, if you're reading this there's about an 80% chance that you're a sax player)

This + Blue Room by Richard Rodgers are my favourite songs to play on sax.

    *mental blank*

Well done. I have no more to say.

  • @DexAndJatz I'm not a musician at all, and I find it depressing that there's about an 80% chance your estimate is correct. Go to a video of Glenn Gould, and most of the comments appear to be by pianists.

I would like to believe this only suggests that generally only fellow musicians feel competent to comment, but I'm sure that's wishful thinking.

  • SOOOOOOOOOO.......

    MUCH.......

    JAZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!

    WooHoo!! This song is amazing.

  • Oh lord, so tasteful, so very elegant and full of Soul

  • anyone know where i can get alto sax sheet music for this

  • @mrhappyparade Try buying the real book, it's got lots of different jazz standards as well as this one. It's just a minor blues in D flat with a few altered chords.

  • This and Blue Train are two of my top favourite pieces of music ever.

  • Mr. John Coltrane (RIP) was one of the best ever!!! Just like our Mr. Tito Puente (RIP) was for us Puertoricans. Tito and many more great musicians Hispanic and American in the business have copy or reproduced lots of Mr Coltrane's tunes but Tito put that special Latino flavor on the arrangements to make these tunes sound even better with all the respect due to Mr Coltrane. Mr. Miles Davis (RIP) used to say that Mr. Coltrane played like scramble eggs!

  • This was recorded in 1960 before Coltrane really embraced Ornette Coleman's approach so it isn't Avant Garde. It wasn't released until 1963 after Coltrane left Atlantic and began to record on Impulse, those sides are the ones that developed his reputation for Avant Garde playing, and yet many of them are incredibly listenable and understandable without a music degree. One word though, you have to listen more than once to get the whole thing. He plays to a big room between your ears.

    Rob Boyter

  • Very nice blues tune--thanks

  • @biomedib...why is that? is it because i list twicw? : )

  • Merci Coltrane pour tes couleurs sonores..., Équinoxe

  • "avant garde" is a very deceiving term. You can record your farts and throw some non-tuned violin over and present it as avant garde.

  • "During the year 1957, I experienced, by the grace of God, a spiritual awakening which was to lead me to a richer, fuller, more productive life. At that time, in gratitude, I humbly asked to be given the means and privilege to make others happy through music. I feel this has been granted through His grace." - John Coltrane

  • Honest purity!! 'Nuff said.

  • Como le pueden dar dislike a esto ¬¬. Coltrane is incredible

  • how anyone could dislike this is beyond me.

  • Coltrane is one of most incredible musicians....ever!

  • I'm not a huge Coltrane fan, mostly because I can't really consider Avant-garde to be jazz, but this is a great song.

  • @Remakersification....If you consider "Avant-garde" not "Jazz" then nothing after the original New Orleans Jass sound is actually "Jazz". Jazz comes in many forms "Avant-garde" is what todays Jazz actually is. It did not originate nor end with Mr. Coltrane.

  • Heard this track on 8 track while living Detroit in the early 70's. Was riding with a friend...jus did a line and sheba...could have rode all day...now it's root beer pop...but i still could ride all day listing to this cut.

  • So very deep - Everytime i play this record it feels like JC is in the room with me

  • just played this for a gig and mix it with mr pc. sexy combination the crowed loved it.

  • The 10 people who hit the "dislike" button are all from inbreeding.

  • @peppersax007 Musical inbreeding, perhaps.

  • @peppersax007 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Well said!

  • Exept the blues :)

  • coltrane es the best! CHILE Y AFRICA UN CONTINENTE

  • This tune is so filthy like a nun doing power squats in a cucumber field. I had to throw my speakers in the washing machine. Damn, blues really is the best music ever! Thumbs up if you think so too.

  • @puddingball It's not a dupstep tune, y'know? :D

  • @puddingball Lol

  • @puddingball love that metaphor man!

  • @puddingball washable speakers? There is such a pure "Spirit" running thorugh Mr. Coltranes music that even the cheapest of speakers can produce it. However, Washable speakers, that's another story.

  • @puddingball The imagery of a nun doing power squats in a cucumber field is simply awesome. I just bought cucumbers from the grocery store yesterday.....LOL. Eating them with squash will never be the same, thanks! LOL!

  • @puddingball Maybe you should wash your ears instead of your speakers!

  • @puddingball

I dont know, but that description was funny. Nuns doing power squats in a cucumber field... lol

  • @puddingball Reading GODS Word will help to cleanse your mind , I just see John Praising GOD with the Talent that he was given by GOD...JESUS IS LORD Amen

  • @andrewswitzjam3 Could we all just put aside our religious differences for this amazing piece of jazz? Music is an art, and art, lke beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. How it speaks to each of us is different, depending on who we are. I'd like to keep arguing like this away from beautiful music. After all, we're all here for the same reason; to listen to some jazz. I don't mean to oppress you or Puddingball's religious beliefs (obviously they mean a lot to you).

  • @andrewswitzjam3 God is Lame.

  • @puddingball cold comment pb cold

  • @puddingball huh? Where do you get 'filth' from this? I really dont understand...

  • @puddingball Return to your dubstep faggot.

  • @puddingball This is fantastic .....but you should hear what i just heard!! soundcloud . com/art-vandelay-productions/coldtrane-equiknoks

  • When I heard this jam on a gift from my Cool Nephew who worked at Virgin Records when they around...he gave me the 'John Coltrane complete Atlantic Recordings" I says to myself, I says self...."A COOL GIFT from A COOL GUY". I then lit a cigarette in an extender, threw on all black...put on my black artist cap and sunglasses, although it was night time...I just felt COOL! The COOLEST! : )

  • @marlinfish128 you aint right, LOL....

  • what album is equinox from?

  • @Saxation1 Coltranes Sound

  • personification of cool, just fucking look at him, he aint even trying!

  • Coltrane is da man!

  • I was playing this with my jazz combo and on my Eb Real Book 6th Edition it was in the key of concert C#m, but the rythm section guys and flute player were reading it off of the C Real Book 5th edition and this chart was in Cm, does anybody know which is the correct key?

  • @FATMUSICGUY

In this recording its in C# minor

  • @KTFLight I mplay it in C usually.....

  • @KTFLight I play it in C usually.....

  • @whymebean i play it in F#

it's all transposition bro. different keys have different feelings

  • @FATMUSICGUY

I've always heard it played in C minor and I've played it with my ensemble in C minor. Not that the key matters, Coltrane is Coltrane. Keep playing, man.

  • nice presentation

    lovely song

  • big spirit

  • thats music my dear

  • Nice choice of pics. really brings it home

  • So relaxing :)..

  • Perfect for a late night drive through the city, when you need some space to think

  • Equinox is a Standard for minor blues tunes, and a lot of fun to play with that great bass line. Like Miles said, it's a "melody within a melody".

  • there is some videos on YouTube that really should be recognized as undisllikeable and should therefore have that button disabled haha. who'd be THAT deluded to do that?? it was probably Charlie Sheen

  • love it!

  • That was smooth

  • hip hop owes alot to jazz check out some of the early jazz dance moves from the thirties (some videos are on here) you will see spinning on the head popping ect ,nothing is new in music anymore jazz and blues are the roots of all poular modern music ,without blues no rock and role ect ect same for jazz

  • the real geniuses take from all of it and then help it to the next level, there are of course some who won't follow

  • hip hop (H.E.R) = jazz

  • i can see his soul being blown into his sax at 2:00

  • Theres nothing like jazz

  • @sergiofutbol123 except a bullet to the head

  • John Coltrane is nothing but a genius.

  • this marvelous play make my mind ease

  • rafiki305, Thank You so much for uploading and sharing this music. It is truly a piece for the ages!

I intend to purchase the cd "Coltrane's Sound" from which it is taken ASAP.

  • Wirklich, wirklich gut! Seit einer Stunde höre ich zu. So was von unaufgeregt. Nicht nur John Coltrane.

  • masterpiece

  • clutch does an amazing cover of this song nothing like the original of course but clutch covered it blues style with horns

  • straight blues...............

  • I really believe that this song can't be beat...it's the epitome of modern jazz.....

  • @andy23822 not exactly...

  • 6:03-6:11 Keeps giving me 'dem R.L. Stines

  • AWESOME, just damn awesome

  • talk about locked into a groove, love this

  • Mr.Coltrane and Mr,Tyner I'm interested have you ever find how special and unike you were and you still are...?!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR MUSIC,FOR THESE UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS!

    ALWAYS - EQUINOX !!!!!!!

  • John Coltrane understood how the Universe works...

  • This is simply awesome; it's almost as if Trane and Tyner are one person playing 2 different instruments at the same time. What empathy and rapport with each other's playing they demonstrate. Pure genius!

  • I just escaped to euphoria while listening. Honestly an epic moment and seriously a true artist in his day. I'm don't know too much about John Coltrane but this song sums it all up. My generation really needs to dig deep and listen to good music like this instead of suffering under the confines of pop-culture and it's discouraging melodic style.....Cool one John!

  • @dJunGi

He probably doesn't know the difference. C'mon Jay-Z and Lady Gaga?!

  • @dJunGi first you should play like miles davis .. than you can say sth like that but before ..you suck a lot.. stupid hater^^

  • great! just great! :)

  • cool as ice

  • @waltherppk1000 Music is just a bunch of goddamn sounds and rhythym in a sequence, it's words and feelings put into sound, and it moves people. I don't see how creativity and music can be seperated.... Could you explain to me how?

  • @waltherppk1000 Sounds like you haven't grasped the concept of things changing. Yes, Justin Bieber is a money-grabbing sham, and many other pop acts. But to generalize the listening population today in such a demeaning way is really a reflection on yourself. There are beautiful, amazing rock, hip hop, and techno tracks, their just harder to find then pop stuff. But they are none the less evolving music just like Coltrane did. Stop getting your info from newspapers and get into the realness of it

  • McCoy Tyner is the man..Loved him on this song and on My Favorite Things..

  • cold love that big statement jazz

  • Ain't no one like the "Trane"

  • this whole thing is beatiful

    thx

  • @waltherppk1000 Thank you !!!!!

  • 2:56 to 3:08 is PURE GENIUS.....

  • Comment removed

  • The pure tone,...by the master !!!!!!!!!

  • WOOOW

  • @waltherppk1000 well then, apparently we have different views on what music is. for me 2pac is as much music as charlie parker is as much music as john cage's 4'33. but we do agree on the creative.

  • @Diazra I should save my response to the same ole crap – “this version is not #@%$^&” “whatshisface has the best $#&^%” “this is ok but%&^@, not one of his $&^#&, the original was $#&%^” – and on it goes same ole carping- if you don’t like don’t listen nobody cares if you are negative STFU and go away – let the rest of us Coltrane lovers lose ourselves, we go somewhere words can’t explain, leave us alone, while we listen to El Maestro 2pacwho?

  • the 7 people who dislike this video are too busy listening to the bubblegum pop bullshit Justin Bieber does. Just sayin.

  • I've gotten into John Coltrane thanks to a paper I'm working on right now for history class. I liked jazz before, but a lot of what I liked came from the anime series Cowboy Bebop. This is great stuff, and I'd heartily recommend it to anyone who likes actual music.

  • Dear Mr. Tyner, I love you

  • Sublime.

  • evidenceunseen1 I couldnt have said it better.

  • Should there be a question about , "What America's only true art form is? All praises to the MOST HIGH for blessing us with this brother!!!!

  • Should there be a question about , "What America's only true art form is?

  • I believe I must point out that as impressive as John Coltrane is, he would be nothing without his quartet.

  • @muchoudh A cursory listening of Coltrane's music without his quartet proves that theory wrong. Though they complemented his playing perfectly, I don't think any truly knowledgable Trane fan would say "he would be nothing without his quartet." Laughable.

  • @2base I agree with this statement.

  • Shit this is beautiful.

  • @Sidekiclero gotta disagree with that. there's classical music which spawns the post-tonal movement. and besides, hiphop, rock, and pop got their gems too. try 2pac. it's still music.

  • @Diazra Although you are right, he is also right because jazz started swing and blues and blues created rock and Raggae created "rap/hiphop" which ends up creating rhythym and blues, so technically all the music we have now originated from music we created in the past.

  • @bamaluvr2360

Rhythym and blues is the blues; what is labelled as ryhthym and blues these days is simply incorrectly labelled... and blues was around before jazz.

  • @cockardo Well the R&B I was reffering was the present time R&B that everyone listens to, and are you sure that blues was before jazz? Cause I don't know but I'd like to.

  • @bamaluvr2360

Well, blues has its own scale, jazz makes use of this scale and a few others.

Also, blues developed from the work calls of the African slaves brought over to America from Africa, its real origins are in these slaves that were first brought over. Jazz developed quite a while later.

  • @cockardo Thank you for clearing that up for me.

  • What many people don't realize is: Jazz is one of the capital cultural

achievements of the 20th century and a logical consequence of the grand

masters' music that was created centuries ago. Of course, everyone is

surrounded by rubbish House music in darn clubs and listens to invariant

music substitute they call Pop, Rock or HipHop. But the truth is: Jazz is everything.

  • @Sidekiclero tru dat brudda

  • @Sidekiclero Too bad your too busy sucking Jazz's dick to open your eyes and realize everything has it's place. Yes this song is very beautiful, but to condemn all other music as mutated is again, a reflection on yourself. You've dug too deep into the elite state of mind, and obviously haven't been treated to some rock or hip hop that has some beautiful human spirit behind it. Your 2 dimensional outlook on all other music further showcases your obvious ignorance to expanding your tastes

  • @Earbly I agree, while not a fan of todays music, I do not curse it. All music has something worth listening to you know? This is coming from a jazz major too =). I love jazz and would rather litento it but all music has emotion and a purpose. Well put my friend.

  • @Kefka14 Now that's the attitude I'm talking about. An attitude I can respect, now listen to as much jazz as you like! :)

  • @Sidekiclero I couldn't agree more

  • @Sidekiclero What you fail to realise is music is truth, and all variation of it included.

  • @Sidekiclero Hiphop fans say the same about hiphop?

  • @Fantasticifaction i think the bigest difference i think is that the young people in 50 years will probably have never heard about tupac or biggie, but i myself a 18 year old from amsterdam was brought up with miles and coltrane and will probably bring up my kids with it

  • @stjigpaf You're saying the following two things now:

-The next generation will not have heard about tupac or biggie

-The next generation will be raised with tupac and biggie

    You make sense!

  • @Fantasticifaction not necessarily:

what @stjigpaf is trying to say is that he grew up listening to miles davis and john coltrane and his/her kids will probably grow up listening to the same things, not tupac and biggie.

Not that i hate them, 'cause i don't, its just you seemed to misinterpret what he said and i wanted to clarify things for you

  • @Fantasticifaction learn to read man :P , i said that i was brought up with miles and coltrane and will bring up my kids with miles and coltrane, its not that i think that tupac or biggie isn't a good musician, but they aren't great

  • @Sidekiclero jazz hip hop? thats the shit

    <
