  • Nows a good time to recommend the book "Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck. It's all about Tom Joad.

  • I've seen Bruce's {original} version. I will admit I'm a RAGE FANATIC, but their version is not even the same song. The RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE version is UNBELIEVABLE !!!

  • i do like bruce springsteen, especially his lyrics, but rage bring such a dark vibe to this song, especially with the grapes of wrath of quote "ma, where ever you see a cop beating a guy... etc." , it's just such an excellent cover, but hats off to bruce for the creation of song, but rage's dark edge just perfects it for me :)

  • bruuuuuce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • utter crap bruce is king

  • amazing cover , great done...

    a love the groove !!!

  • this cover is better than the original song, no doubts about it

  • @enestey no, there's even better. Look up Bruce Springsteen Tom Morello Rock and Roll hall of fame. They do it together and it's fucking epic. I havent been floored for a long time but it knocked me out. Do yourself a favor and look it up.

  • This song should be used as a call to resist the criminal shit of the Obama regime. I can't wait for the next election so we can restore conservatives into places of influence. One trillion dollars spent on a stupid stimulus and we get 10 percent unemployment! What bullshit. Now we can see that Obama can really walk on water - as long as he stays on top of the floating tar balls in the Gulf. Imposter and fraud!

  • @rockyracune You are insane if you think that Rage Against the Machine, or the person who actually wrote this song has any desire to use this song to restore conservatives, who got us in this trouble in the first place.

  • @rockyracune hahahhah obama is terrible, but if you honestly think conservatives are gonna help you, you got another thing coming, obama is pratically a conservative, he works for the bankers, money makes the world spin, he doesn't give a crap about the common american, just increasing the capital wealth of the hidden powers.

  • @danathor99 then you run for office

  • Great music but it just didn't fit the text at all!

  • rage guitarest played this song on stage with bruce at the 2009 rock & roll hall of fame concert it was pretty amazing so springstein must respect these guys alot to do that

  • My favorite Rage Against the Machine-- playing Bruce Springsteen who references John Steinbeck! "Look for me Ma..."

  • this is absolutely amazing i think. and i love the original too. but this has a totally different feeling to it

these guys should be officialy recognized as heroes or some shit

  • so amazing long live Rage Against the Machine and Bruce Springsteen thank u for writing such a good song for an incredible band to make it so much more intense

I like both versions but i got to say RATM has a much better version it's much more powerful and sticks a message in your head

look in your eyes mama you'll see me you'll see me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • look in their eyes mom you"ll see me.

  • dnap 101. you are an idiot this is a pure expresion of free style and sounds so fuckin good.

  • I like Bruce's much better..but it gets his words out there.

  • I can't believe they had the nerve to play this song this way... Such a perfect song... Yuck.

  • badass zack pawned this song and headbangs!

  • my song for poetry assignment tomorow...

  • id best leave this song to bruce and tom....

  • Anyone seen the vs of the vs of this song Bruce Springsteen//Tom Morello? The tube say's NO not in this country the US- Huh>? I've had it for months...

  • fucking kickass...what else can you say about these fuckers?

  • badass.nothing els to say

  • DITTO!

  • I couldn't agree with you more. The oils are bonafide crap!

they had a couple of catchy singles but the bulk of their work is musically abysmal

  • yes. it is a shame that RATM misses the mark politically and espouses simply blind violence at the system but at least they do something. and some of their videos do inform. I wish they were like Midnight Oil more but keep their aggression. Inform and inspire people. incite them to act and have direction, not just get angry and say fuck authority but do something.

  • yea, I know what you mean but zachs new band one day as a lion has a bit more direction with all the anger of ratm

  • Huge RATM fan, but come now, NO band will ever be like Midnight Oil and be able to get their message across in such a sophisticated/insightful way! RATM has done some great things though and introduced many youngsters to some great intellectuals, writers, poets and philosophies. As well as bringing alot of attention to issues most would have no clue about

  • Rage has informed and inspired me to get into politics, Rage has brought me to protests and the DNC and the RNC, not fucking Midnight Oil. Learn what your talking about. Just because Midnight Oil inspired you doesn't mean Rage doesn't inspire people, because if you hadn't been ignorant and you would have gone to one of RATM's concerts you would know they inspire much more people then stupid ass Midnight Oil does.

  • wow midnight oil if not in the same class on any ground as ratm

  • hey dumbass springsteen obviously didnt mind their version to badly cuz he played the song with tom morello u dum fuck....rock is a wide genre and its just as alive today as it was any time in the past

  • And what was originally a beautiful angry song is introduced to listeners outside of the initial artists genre, therefore making us all better appreciators of the arts. Bruce is still the Boss, he had no problem with RATM covering it, had Tom Morello has even played it with him live.

RATM also covered a Minor Threat song (on an album of covers) which sounded different to the song I love, but good in its own way.

  • well you are entilted to your own opinions regarding rock music, but its rather ignorant and offensive to belittle other peoples taste in music.

  • Tarantado talaga tong si tom morello eh...

    Hayup...!

    Di pa nag-lason!!!

  • how are they full of shit? im not instigating, i am just interested.

  • Ghost of tom joad are a baddas song and rocks so hard zack de la rocha jumping on the stage as wilder than a crazy monkey the are so awesome

  • My first ever RATM memory. I was in the first grade, seven years old, I thought it was funny when he started yelling 'You'll see me!' Started listening to them at 13 or 14, today I worship them :)

  • Great performance by Zach znd Co.

  • This turned me on to getting the springsteen album. Both performances are good. Different but good

  • the boss would disagree....

  • Rage is making a new album!!!!

  • Zach looks about 5

  • wheres the bass?

  • the guitar and bass are synced together making a full sound like bands are supposed to do, not scooped guitars and no bass

  • I'm talking about the quality of the video, not the bands performance. its sounds all tinny

  • check out the bruce springsteen one ft. morello that they did about a year ago....best performance EVER

  • I love how good Tom did in the End

  • Zack makes me melttttt

  • bruuuuuuce- yeah read the grapes of wrath- theres a version of morello doing this song with bruce springsteen last year- pretty cool!

  • it´s very unconvertional how he uses the 12string ;)

  • the lyrics kick ass though :)

  • this song is so fucking original, that if it wasnt for the lyrics, it would be an original song by rage, but fuck, its considered a cover cuz of the damn lyrics

  • just in case you actually didn´t realize it yet:

lyrics are damn important in any rage song

  • i know, i was just trying to say that if rage wouldve written their own lyrics it wouldnt be considered a cover song, because the music is completely original and sounds nothing like springsteens version, the lyrics are freaking awsome, but the music is brilliant too.

  • except for killign in the name of, very few lyrics,

  • Still packs a punch.

  • great song, great cover

  • mjdmds knows whats up

  • Well actually the lyrics are very pertinent to right now. The lyrics alluding to the New World Order...forgotten families with no resources...and plus its all the way you hear a song, it doesnt have to have any one meaning. So not saying your wrong, but it can be applied to current situations to. Cool.

  • you guys are all morons... this song was originally written about the depression. read a book mothafukas!

  • This performance is amazing, awesome band and awesome song by Bruce Springsteen. Prophet like lyrics.

  • haha if you look at the facts its sociallism so maybe you should look at the fact. all this country is doing is enslaving their people

and McCain would not of done better.

    look up the CFR

    Council of Foreign Relations

they are all on it Obama and McCain alike

  • Oh yeah, I'm sure that Republican pig McCain would have been just great

  • Hey 'jewishkids'! Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant!! 'Sounds like Nazi Germany'. Why don't you do some studying instead of writing rubbish comments on You Tube?

  • speaking of the new world order

obama is passing the give act

this means that we have to give two years of service to a camp which they call campus

the first black president to make slaves of us all

    ironic

it also kinda sounds like nazi germany doesn't it

  • Comment removed

  • A song about economic depression, un-employment and travelling to find work..........covered from a modern perspective!

  • 'welcome to the new world order'

if you don't know what that is.. start researching

  • lol

  • obama to start 'new world order'.. article was in 'Time' magazine.. google it..

youtube some news about it.. its kind of funny to me that bruce springstien wrote this song years before this was even made in 1997.. flash forward to now and that whole line is exactly what is going on.

and if you noticed.. its not good

  • You'll see me!

  • The quality could have been a little better and someone could have stopped that clicking noise in the background.

  • bruce springsteen's version is better but mabey because he is like the best ever... BUT this is fuckin beyond awsum.

  • I love the echo on Zack's voice

  • Yea, it really adds to the power of the song. and with the big gap between lyrics it is definetly less empty. Great cover.

  • what a riff

  • amém!

  • This is a song that will forever ring true with the populous.. It needs to be sung by many different generations. Read the book Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck or even just watch the movie you will see what i mean...We are all Tom Joad

  • I´ve done that yesterday;)

Check out my new "The Ghost of Tom Joad" Cover

  • best headbang, amazing

  • Love playing this song with the guys I jam with!

We do this song mixed with Into the Void (Black Sabbath) Dr Suess is Dead (Acid Bath)...and

No Quarter (the TOOL version not the Zep version)........A medley that Destroys!

  • temazo weon oh!

  • I don't have enough VOLUME to do this justice!!!

  • The original is beautiful, this is just fucking awesome. They're both great.

  • i've got the single of this. only cost 20p

  • You guys wanna stfu about BRUCE!!omg one!. Respect some real bands rather than some pop trash. So what if RATM covered it? They put life back into it.

  • Respect the Writer moron.

  • theres no doubt bruce needs to be respected. but this a was a great cover by rage

  • What dontaskmenuttin31 said, if Bruce hadn't made this version, this one wouldn't exist neither. Covers are made for a reason, they're to show respect towards other artists. You don't have to like the original one, but you still should show some respect.

  • yeeeah..high school memories!! thanx for posting

  • not a patch on bruce.. because BRUCE IS KING. i think its good. realy trancy, but bruce is the greatest lyricist ever bord on earth. woodyguthry would have been proud

  • classic, from one of the greatest rock bands in history

  • this is amazing the live its crazy awesome

  • one of the greatest headbang i've ever seen! dela rocha rocks!!!!!!!!

  • this is great, but can't beat the boss, i think anyway

  • BRUCE !!!!!!

  • hehe my teacher used this song for one of his debates against a student. haha. i thought it was an awesome song so i looked it up :]

  • i love rage's cover and i loove the original

the song is so great! it's cool seeing it being covered cuz bruce and rage are so diff XD

    <3 tom morello

  • awesome

  • i'm sorry i tried listening to bruce's version, but i really feel the need for the ANGER that RATM brings this to this song. Love the Boss, nothing against him, but i LOVE the anger.

  • You couldn't have said it any better ...

  • sarahjeanbeans what do you mean bruce's "version"? It's his song!

  • koooooool

  • this song is easy and fun to play on bass.

  • yepp

in fact all the ratm is easy and fun to play)

  • Kind of sucks that the video stops before the song.

  • Kind of sucks in general. I'm sorry, but I can't be fans of these people. I'm only here to listen to what the cover sounds like, as Tom Morello joined the E-Street Band last night to play this with them. Don't bug me, this is a "comment" not an attack.

  • RATM is not for everyone. I can see why folks wouldn't like 'em.

But I just love their intensity.

  • Thanks for not being a "choice word" (choose one).

  • yeah rage isn't for everyone...they are not for ignorant people, and the song is not about the covers but about the lyrics

  • this is shit

  • you better mean that in a good way!

  • yea u be'er

  • This song to me states the feelings of the novel so well, the mood gives me a feeling of wandering frustration and sadness that surfaces because of such feelings.

  • You can thank Bruce Springsteen for that. This is an interesting version but I think I like the original version better.

  • good cover of bruce springsteen

  • I like the sound of the music better in this one, but the tone just isn't right. Anyone who's read the book and studied it would see my point.

  • devilcat66 I think you're right about the tone not reflecting the spirit of the novel. Screaming doesn't always work. If you scream everything then nothing is emphasized.

  • I'm what some of you RATM fans would call an old fart. I'm 39. I grew up listening to Bruce and Dylan. You gotta give them respect for their contributions to rock music. Don't forget that rock wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for those old pioneers. Having said that, now I gotta say that RATM kicks ass, and their version of Ghost of Tom Joad is friggin bad ass! It's by far the best.

  • No doubt. Yo, respek!!

  • everyone forgets that woodie guthrie did this song in the 40's and The Boss did his variation of it. rage and bruce are awesome, but don't forget where it came from. woodie was the original socially-conciseness music artist.

  • If you are talking about Guthrie's Tom Joad song, than I am afraid you are incorrect. Bruce's version is clearly not a cover of Guthrie's. I'm not sure what you mean by "variation" though. There is no doubt the fact that Bruce was inspired, in part, by Guthrie's music, but his version is an original work. Rage version is a cover, and a damn good one.

  • I am a monster Springsteen fan, and I also love Rage so this is all I have to say:

Springsteen's version gets the message across to his fans and his generation.

Rage's version gets the message across to their fans and their generation.

I think it's really cool that Rage would show the Boss respect like that

  • rage is my second favorite band of all time and they are covering my all time favorite ever... MR BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN...

YOU CAN imangine the multiple orgasms i had when i heard this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RAGE = FUTURE LEGENDS

    BRUCE= LIVING LEGEND !!!!!

  • Actually Rage Against the Machone are already legends.

  • una de las mejores presentaciones del ratm en vivo

  • big sorry for all RATM Fans, but i think that's absolutely not good! I'm one of the biggest Springsteen Fans in the whole world, and that is bruce's song!!! That's not the right song for this band, the shouldn't sing it. Sorry

  • the fact ur one the "biggest BS fans in the world" proves ur opinion is overly biased.

rage did it justice by taking a lyrically powerful song, and giving it their angry edge.

its a fresh break from the normal watered down shitty covers of the last 20 years.

  • Yes, maybe you're right but thats my opinion. Really sorry 'bout that but i can't change it. First of all thats not the kind of music i like very much. But everyone has his opinion, and i respect that. Thanks for your very intersting reply, i really appriceate it.

  • i just noticed.

dillinjaesc . BS bullshit. whoo funny.

listened to both versions....this ones vetter

  • Badass song.

  • warmonger is gay lol, on the other hand this song pwns :)

  • Fuck, this song sucs! Incompetent music!

    Retards, this aint music ffs!

And it's Bruce Springsteens text, so dont give this idiot some glory for the text!!!

  • funny how you call bringing an amazing song to a different generation in such a powerful way "incompetent." how bout you just go suicide bomb yourself and do us all a favor.

  • I might be wrong but isn't this a Woody Guthrie cover?

  • Not unless Bruce Springsteen did a cover of Woody Guthrie...

  • hey...fuck you

yeh what itkillschris said. go fuck seventy-two virgins

  • im the biggest bruce fan and think your comment was ridiculous!!! RAGE IS AMAZING AND DID A BETTER JOB THEN ANYONE COULD OR WOULD.. MY RESPECTS TO THEM!!

  • whats with the double neck?

  • ♥♥♥

  • tom morello is using a double necked guitar O_o

    why though? hehe

  • 1:30 is so fukin funny watching zack (i guess u could call it thou i wouldnt, but i cant find another word) dancing its like michael jackson meets kurt coban

  • shit quality u retard.

  • i'm backkk :)

  • I like the Toby Keith version!

  • Excellent cover.

I know RATM because it's the first one I saw, some years ago. And there were the lyrics, so, because I am french, I could understand better. I know that the original is B. Springsteen, but I don't like his songs. I am a RATM addict, and I prefer to stay on this version. But I understand that some people prefers the original.

  • hmmm, sorry. I wanted to say : "it's the first song I heard by them".

    This is night here. ^^

  • who cares if this song was done by bruce? and if rage screwed it up. there is a message in both versions!!!!!!!!!!!! hear the message talk about the message u people seem not to understand that message??? no job no peace no rest. naw didn't think u people got it. nobody is fooling. oh well do u understand a bit now?

  • I actually like RATM, but I don't really see how anyone can compare the original to this version. Its not the same song I agree, only the lyrics. The Bruce Springsteen original is far better IMO.

  • Sorry, but I do have to point this out:

'I don't really see how anyone can compare the original to this version'

'The Bruce Springsteen original is far better'

    Eh?

  • ah...oops. I see your point. I guess what I mean is that the two versions are so different, but I do like the original more. Bad choice of words on my part.

  • rock!

  • Thanks god, they're back !!!!!

  • it is the case like the turn the page cover by metallica, the cover is miles ahead of the original. kudos to springsteen for the original, but if Steinbeck could have heard the two versions, i think he would go with the rage. thanks from istanbul ...

  • Cant compare the two songs, both are amazing in their own right.

  • I hope your kidding, the Rage version blows Bruce Springsteen away. It's not even the same song, just the lyrics. No disrespect to Bruce, but his song doesn't come close.

  • you have to have a very very mature and tuned ear to hear how brilliant the springsteen version is.. you probably wouldnt like mozart and bob dylan either. listen againto springsteens version.. youll here all the urgency and pain in a true protest song but without the yelling .

  • I'm a huge fan of both Springsteen and Rage and I like both versions of the song. You don't have to like one and hate the other.

Ghost of Tom Joad is far from Springsteens or Rages best work anyway.
