  • for people wondering, there are no animals that have come from Taiji at the Vancouver Aquarium. Some of the dolphins have been engangled in fishing nets because human beings fish for fish. There are no animals that come from Japan in North America

  • 11 years passed.. I went there 2 days ago I saw the same dolphins and same announcer but no killer whales? i wonder y?

  • @lagbas59 Bjossa went to Sea World in 2001. There were many reasons for that, in the end being that it was the best thing for her. The dolphin in that video is no longer there either, but the same species is still displayed there.

  • Sometimes I realy get those people who wants to free the orcas. I think it is sad some orcas go mad be cause of captivity, but I also realy want to be with them, and feel them. If every trainers in every parks could learn to look into the orcas souls and understand them, I think there would not be one sad orca in captivity.

  • they dot have it anymore

  • @JYleung22 Well They Should

  • I love this stadium but it is very small....

  • Awesome video. RIP Bjossa

  • @sexykitten8687 bjossa didnt die she got moved

  • @snakemast66 bjossa died 2001 at sea world

  • @sexykitten8687 bjossa died 2001 at sea world

  • That would be cool to see 0:50 underwater :D

  • this orca was saved from being harmed just saying...

  • what a fucking small tank i wanna puke

  • @jumpthemhigh its only the show tank the actual one is ten times bigger and also it dosnt show the whole tank only the parts viewable

  • nice aquarium. Better than what Lolita has in Florida.

  • it' s very sad.

orcas should be in the wild!

  • Orcas should be in the Wild! I live in Vanouver and I saw the movie The Cove, Turns out i asked where the dolphins came from in that aquarium, the lady said they were " resqued " from Japan!! So they were taken from Taiji. 23 000 dolphins are slaughtered each year, and its all Sea World's and Aquariums fault, all for laber dolphins thats why they are captured and killed. Meat is just a by-product....

  • That isn't true. I don't agree the dolphins at VanAqua aren't releaseable but what WSPA and Coalition for No Whales in Captivity say about the acquisition of those dolphins is untrue.

VanAqua's dolphins are from Japan. They are not from Taiji. White-sided dolphins are uncommon there. They were stuck in off shore, fixed-net fisheries. Taiji is a drive fishery. Spinnaker and Hana have scars from the netting. Helen's pectoral fins are partially amputated due to the severity of her injuries.

  • @RachelBronwyn so u want to release helen into the wild with amputated fins... or saying they shouldnt i didnt understand wat you wer saying

  • @RachelBronwyn i like the aquarium because they have resued and captive bred dolphins only

  • @RachelBronwyn i know that i went this summer

  • @RachelBronwyn i know they are from japan one of the trainers told us when the show was going

  • @AquaTeal334 i saw the movie the cove as well...indeed it is wrong and you are right to blame aquariums such as this one in the video...but know that sea world does NOT get there dolphins from taiji..in fact the dolphins and whales at sea world were all bred, born and raised right in the park....they were not even taken from the wild.

  • The aquarium's dolphins had nothing to do with the dolphin slaughters. Their species isn't even involved in the drives. They were rescued from fishing nets.

  • @remedykiua yeah i think they are thinkin of seaworld not vancouver aquarium

  • @AquaTeal334 How stupid are you? They are not from Taiji, they are rescued animals. There are 0 animas in North America that have come from Taiji. Do your research. The dolphins at the Vancouver Aquarium even have the scars to prove that they were in fact entangled in fishing nets.

  • Better than other aquariums! go Vancouver !

  • The facility was larger than what you see. It wasn't big enough but it was better than orca tanks at most parks.

Dogs evolved over thousands of years into a domestic species. Bjossa was stolen from her family in the wild, stuck in a tank and forced to do tricks.

All VanAqua's orcas died. Bjossa went to a Seaworld park due to poor health where she was forced to perform despite her illness. She promptly died. She was only twenty-five.

I'm so glad VanAqua refuses to house orcas now.

  • @RachelBronwyn

You can't force a 12,000 animal that can easily harm us to, as you say, do "tricks." (They're actually called Behaviors.) I'm somewhat against captivity but sometimes captivity can be good. Their dolphins were rescued, if they weren't there to rescue them, they'd be dead.

  • its not to small, theres more water on the other side, and they got rid of the damn orcas, im pissed xD

  • You've got to be kidding me? It's like putting a human in a living room for the rest of their life and saying "Guess what? Run around. Oh, btw, do tricks." Um...no. It's too small. And hopefully the orcas went to a better facility that will treat them better. Selfish prick.

  • poor animal! fuck humans...

  • that tank is not nearly as small as Miami SeaQuarium, or Mundo Marino

  • when died WhiteWings

  • people teach there dogs tricks dont they?

you arnt telling me they have a poor quality of life, when they once apon a time were wild?

dogs are made to be kept indoors but theyre still happy, so why do any of you think that a whale would be less happy? x

  • @princesslozi orcas arn't domesticated theres a HUGE difference!!

  • The people who work at Stanley Park are such fucking assholes! I worked there. They have no interest in animal welfare. Which is why they have lost so many animals there over the years. Further, when you work there, they threaten you with termination if you criticize anything about the aquarium. The admission to get in is so fucking expensive, it is nothing short of extortion.

  • that tank is WAY too small for that poor orca.

  • the aquarium was recently given permission to expend by the park board of Stanley park but is not able to get the funding to do so from the government. they also had no money to start with and payed for it out of their pockets as a way to study aquatic animals up close. so before you complain about the size understand that the canadian government is more focused on make Olympic housing thats destroying false creek and malls and roads when we don't need them and not on education and conservation

  • No aquarium can compare to an orcas freedom, family and happiness.

  • No, but the purpose of the aquarium is to allow us to learn more about the life that lives just beneath the waves so that we can better protect them.

Living out in the wild might be good, but humans are also destroying it. Over-fishing, pollution... By learning more about these animals up close, it becomes easier for us to put rules in place to protect them in their natural habitat.

And I'm guessing you aren't aware of the program VanAqua has put in place for sick seal pups. Go and look it up.

  • @ZephyrPhoenix But getting these animals into captivity destroys even more the oceans. Please read 'the case against marine mammals in captivity' on free read on the internet-just google it and please watch 'the cove'. Drive hunts in Japan are frequent, and unnecessary.

  • WOW i work there and its completely different!!!

  • Im finding it interesting how people keep saying certon Ocas are being shpped to seaworld but Seaworld would have announced it to the public if they got new orcas.

  • Is it just me, or seeing a wild animal surrounded by glorious spectators clapping in awe at it's show works just disgusting? Reminds me of animal circuses. Don't get me wrong, I'm a volunteer gallery educator at the aquarium now, but it's a good thing it gives me the opportunity to help abandoned seals at their rescue center. This, however, is pure entertainment and the fact they kept one -and couldn't care for it- is disgusting. She was a money grab and that makes me feel horrible for her.

  • they didnt have killer whales when i went there. did they die???

  • well what happened is they moved the killer whales to another aquarium but they died there.

  • oh :(

  • Bjossa, the killer whale in the video, was the last orca they had on display at the aquarium, they shipped her to SeaWorld San Diego in 2000 where she died in 2001.

  • Its so funny how everybody loves her even though they don't even personally have a relationship as a trainer with her. Its sad, I went there after that big ol dolphin died and never got to see the orca show.

  • i miss you Bjossa R.I.P i love you no matter what

  • i know i love her too

  • hey its way bigger than lolitas tank god help her

  • tiny tank

  • I Love you girl no matter where you are!

  • I saved EVERY newspaper article with her on it, when she got moved to stupid san diego

  • There was good reason for her move to seaworld, she was getting ill at vancouver and they could no longer care for her properly, that and after Finna died they wanted her to have some tankmates, so they sent her to Seaworld

  • she was great i never go to the aquariam anymore cause theres no orcas. i remember the theater they got rid of that.

  • ~*RIP BJOSSA*~ may your life and death be not in vain sea angel

  • :`(

    i miss her too
