i'm a highland dancer myself, but both of these styles are absolutely lovely. it's nice to see a duet, instead of the usual competition that people have been the two styles. Haha. Not to mention the dance they're doing is definitely my fave! =)
I already thought so, but this shows how much more interesting Scottish dancing is. Irish dancing is so stiff, and the way they never use their arms is weird. How can you give a good performance when everything from the waist up is dead?!
Think about the added difficulty in keeping your upper body straight and rigid while moving your lower body.
Almost any Irish group dance uses arm movements, they're just straight lines and angles instead of the curved arms and leg movements of Highland dancing.
dead??...hun i dance irish dances and trust me keeping your upper body still is really difficult, because irish dancing is highly unnatural movement so your arms and upper body tend to keep the balance by moving...its seems you do nothing but its quite hard to keep the upper body still.....theres one crucial rule in irish dancing - its seems you are doing one thing while in fact you are doing something completelly different.....
Lol it's SO big difference in culture between countries thats just a couple of miles away from each other n___n The irish dancers are not so energic because the music is s-o-s-l-o-w compared to some of the irish dancing, plus that they didn't have too much space, especially since its a ceili-ish dance. Really good from both anyways ^^
i agree, the scottish dancers do seem more trained and the irish dancers aren't as energetic as they could be. and the music is obviously scottish but they both did wonderfully XD
lolz, I like the idea of it, but I don't think that the "duet" is fair. First, because the music sounds really scottish^^ Not that i mind but, anyway. Second, I think that it is quite obvious that the scottish girls are older and a little better trained than the irish dancers.
Of course my opinion is not neutral^^ I'm a Irish dancer myself....
Can anyone please tell me what the tunes called? It was featured in a really old movie called "Catholic Boys" (brilliant movie) and the tunes been stuck in my head since I was about 4.
