  • I love your videos and will link people who need to learn about computers to them from now on. But this particular video isn't technically accurate. Software doesn't "make computers more alive" and you CAN buy a computer without an operating system, enabling you to install your own instead of having to pay The Microsoft Tax.

  • Also you ought to warn people about malware!!

  • wow people actually pay for this shit

  • This can explain it better than you ever could

  • lol i dont understand at all

  • nice and clean,,thanks

  • i really want a laptop

  • well technically linux is not a OS

  • "Technically" an OS is the smallest piece of software needed to run any other software, ie a layer that "simplifies" access to hardware.

During the 80's some people started diluting the meaning by calling other software bundled with the kernel for "OS", often user land tools, like a CLI and/or libraries. This has been used by otherwise great men, like RMS, to further their own goals.

Nowadays people claim anything to be an OS, like a website (ie webos) and/or a complete Linux distribution.

  • what timezone are u in? for the past decades i heard no one ever say a website was a OS

  • I assume you mean that it should say GNU/Linux. Most folks just abbreviate it to Linux and it is most definitely an Operating System (OS). It manages computer resources, provides a user interface, and launches applications.

  • Linux is a OS it was created by a group of computer hackers and was used for that purpose untill people adepted it for use on servers

  • iy was released by Linus Torvalds

  • I'd like to run Mac in my car =P

  • I do know Linux it is originated from Minix

  • i agree what u said

  • i agree what u said

  • Mac in NOT an operating system. It is called OS with it's version number. OS X, OS 9, etc.

  • Kawazoe, most people shorten the official term "Mac OS" to "Mac". Oh, and you don't need to add it's version number unless you want to specify which version one's talking about. You can just say "Mac OS", or simply "Mac" as most people have shortened it to.

  • You do realize that doing this is wrong. Macintosh is describing the computer's hardware, OS X is the operating system. You can't shorten Mac OS to Mac because Mac can run Windows and Linux, which now just doesn't make sense since you can't run an OS on an other one. You need virtualization software to do so and even then, you can't run a virtualized OS inside an other one which mean that you can't run a virtual Windows on a virtual OS X. Then you can and can't run Windows on Mac, if your right.

  • Why does one emulating the other have to do with what you call it? If you use a Mac to emulate Windows, it's still just a Mac with the right software.

  • My point is that when you throw virtualization in it, using the name Mac instead of Mac OS to define the operating system just doesn't make sense. You see? You have a Mac that run Mac that run Windows that could run Mac?! How can you run a Macintosh on windows when it's not a software? But you could run Mac OS on Windows on Mac OS on a Mac. Now that make sense because we talk about software.

  • Oh god.. Who cares Mac's are a combination proprietary software/hardware. to be honest the os mac uses has a Unix kernel (darwin). Stop arguing... its pointless and redundant.

  • This is like saying that Linux is UNIX. Come on! Do you know what Linux mean? Linux Is Not UniX. OS X is based on NEXTSTEP and FreeBSD. It is NOT a UNIX kernel but it is compliant with the UNIX standard thus providing every command line tool and shell that UNIX support, just as Linux do.

  • I said it was unix based..."Darwin Kernel"

    which is unix based

  • Agreed

  • What do you think OS stands for?

  • Ohhhh Shit!

  • No shit sherlock..

  • Think of it this way! XD

  • This REALLY simplifies things for beginning computer users, cellphone users, etc. Thanks!

  • Exactly...lol

  • subscribed! great videos

  • Good idea! Should be useful for beginners!

  • good video

  • highly understandably language the english or any other language and computer language are completely different

eg the language u r speaking is english but the language u r writing is java

  • whats wrong with computer nerds ... lol

  • the person you believe to be mulfad is actually a t-1000 sent back in time to terminate the leader of the human race

  • naaaaaaaaaaarrrr mulfad

    pooooptash

  • I had a party when he said Linux. My mom now believes that it isnt "just another program" anymore.

  • "computers are really good at following instructions" --- NOT WINDOWS hahahahah :-D

  • i use windows and i agree

  • ya me too

  • I love these videos, even if I already knew about what's being explained. These are so helpful. Awesome production as well.

  • so.. Can I use Computer against the Zombies Infection ? LOL

  • Nice vids man....The president one was very helpful. Make more! Make harder ones though.

  • Oh the IRONY!!

  • Nice

  • This calls for the question: What if all software was erased from the earth? Apocalypse now!

  • just take steve jobs, and bill gates, and put em in a giant blender, hit the smoothie button, pour them onto a cookie sheet and seperate by at least 3 inches, put them in the oven and heat at 500 degrees C until golden brown. then, one by one, cram them into the cd port of ur pc, mac or (psh) "linux" and hit the power button.

  • Well there are people called programmers, and they live to make those types of things.

Actually, I don't think that would be so bad. If we reprogrammed EVERYTHING then maybe there wouldn't be so many bugs.

  • I like the videos because of its simplicity. Most people understand what a Mac is, but if you say OS X, i am not so sure about that.

  • It's called "OS X" and not "Mac"... or even "Mac OS X".... just calling it "Mac" is totally wrong.

  • Relax, it's ok. It's not a disaster! Remember, this is designed to be as simple as possible. It's K.I.S.S., Keep It Simple Stupid!

  • It's also not called Windows. It's Windows XP/Vista/7. Mac and Windows are what they are called by people generally, and that's why he used that term I'm guessing

  • Just want to say thanks to the folks sticking up for people who need explanations that are focused on big ideas and not the details that serve to confuse.

  • mac i a line of hardware

  • i love these vids

  • amazingly useful. ha! much easier to follow than my BCIS class.

    Lmao.

    :D

  • Fantastic, each time everytime

  • do a speed up behind the scenes for this too!

  • VERY GOOD!

  • I love your videos. Even if I know the subject of one I watch it. Amazingly useful and actually really fun to watch!

  • Yeah, me too :P btw, the quality of the videos is very good.

  • Excellent. Thanks for the video.

  • awesome video now i know what to do (really i dont know what to do)

  • understandable for everyone that speaks english :)

  • this is helpfull for people who dont know much about PCs

  • are you the guy from college humor?

  • Nope, not me. :)

  • Cool!
