@CapStepan So what you are saying is that in those parts of the world where there is a free market and free trading there are very few problems, but in those parts of the world where there is oppression, communism, dictatorship, and other causes preventing a free market, people are living under non-free systems/governments?
And with this you are trying to prove what really? That capitalism isn't working? ;-) Oh dear me...
@SovietUnion100 Everybody is free to do what ever they want in a democracy. The rich have worked harder than you have. Do you envy them? Work hard and you might get rich as well!
@SovietUnion100 What do you mean? People on welfare? I agree with you on that actually. We shouldn't have welfare for most people, only those who really need it. Too many recieve welfare today and get rich off of other peoples work. :-(
@4ingP Communism is fascist by nature. It's a contradiction to claim communism is democratic.
"People are free to do whatever they want everywhere" - not under communism. People were killed for thinking thoughts the government didn't like under communism. It's anti-democratic.
Capitalism is freedom. There is no undemocratic capitalist system. Name one.
@tannalv No it's not. Communism is an economic system. Democracy has nothing to do with money. A Communist society is simply a society where people work for the good of each other and have no money. If you try to force it, you'll only get results if you give people reason to cooperate with your government (you know what I'm talking about). However, you don't need to force it if you're willing to give it time.
@CapStepan Considering that most of those people starving are living under communism, like North Korea... I don't really have to say anything more, do I?
@tannalv You are a spectacular moron. Add up all misery on the planet, and most of it takes place under neoliberal countries guided by the IMF and the "Washington Consensus".
Why do people miss the Soviet Union? To me it seems as absurd as missing Saddam Husseins Iraq! In the Soviet Union people were used as slaves. No matter how hard they worked they didn't get much in salary. In the USA people who work hard get rich, people who don't work hard don't get more than they deserve.
Politicians in the Soviet Union were corrupt. Now Russia has democracy. McDonalds and other free bussinesses.
Why do some people then miss the Soviet Union? Do they not know what it was?
@Punderland North Korea is communist. Do you think the North Koreans are happy to live under a communist dictatorship? Neither were the russians. Why then, there are people who miss Soviet I just don't understand... Absurd!
@LenCommu That would in that case make North-Korea the most democratic nation in the world. Communism is dictatorship. Yeltsin who was a great hero gave Russia democracy. The Russian people have been happy ever since. So wtf do people "miss the Soviet Union" for then?? There was no democracy, you would be shot if you criticized the government or even your boss. People were slaves. There is nothing to miss.
@tannalv Communism does not mean dictatorship. In any society, a dictator can arise. The way communism has been executed is not how it is supposed to be done.
Democracy is hard to be thought; it's something people have to learn through time. Just like all capitalistic states lived in a monarchy for ages, they learned and based themselves on an elected parliament.
So theoretically it means democracy at its limit, though you'd need a stoic for it in practice.
@LenCommu The very goal of communism is armed revolution. Is that democratic? Where ever communism has taken rule the people have been treated like slaves. Look at China. Vietnam. Pol Pot. East Germany. Soviet. Communism has never lead to democracy. Why is that do you think?
@tannalv Are you blind? What is happening in Egypt for example? Capitalism run by a dictator. There still are many forms of capitalism with a dictator at the top.
Is it really that hard to think a little bit further and know that communism can work without a dictator? Just like all capitalistic worlds have been dominated by a dictator/king before, the mental values in any society can change to the point something like a Parliament/Assembly exists. It took ages for Capitalism to reach democracy.
@tannalv Why are you so apprehensive? Let people miss what THEY want to miss. It will be truly democratic (of course if you think of yourself as a democratic person). :D
@tannalv Oh, and I guess if I wanted to be a smartass, I could point out that the US is a Republic, not a Democracy (I know they're very similar, by the way).
The Soviet Union was one of the biggest theatrical displays of mankind. I must admit, communism seems a beautiful way of life, but it's not a good way to rule a nation. Millions of people died during the Soviet period and many millions more were homeless or starving. You had to watch every step you made or you would be arrested by the secret service and sent to Siberia.. Man, I am happy those days are over. I hope communism never ever appears again!
@Zukhov1945 That's right, but still there are countries who have communism as a way of government, and I have to say those countries aren't really doing well :(

I was in the US Army, stationed in Alaska, as the Soviet Union came to an end. They were an enemy I could respect, and had they continued I feel the balance would have kept the USA from the troubles we are seeing today.
The soldiers of today's US military that I know have little real respect for our current enemies. I get the nagging feeling that will not turn out to be a good thing for us.
I miss the Cold War, and I miss the Red Army that was almost as much of an old friend as an enemy.
@gordianshoelaces Have you ever thought about the starving people who were under constant fear that the Secret police would come to arrest them because they were suspected of opposing the Party?
@MihaiViteazul100 No he wasn't. He was saying that he respected the USSR and Red Army as much as he feared them. He misses the Cold War because neither country didn't think they could police the world.
If you'd read what he wrote, you'd see that he misses the Cold War because everyone respected each other. Now, the US government and many citizens think the US can run the world and treat their enemies like they aren't people.
@4ingP Do I seem like a retard? Of course I know that the KGB and Red Army were two different things. And who are you to come all high and mighty thinking you know what he said and means. He says he misses the Cold War because the Soviet Union posed a threat to America. Russia still has nuclear weapon, China is still Communist and they both still have very large spheres of influence. The USA doesn't push the big countries around, only the small resource rich ones.
@MihaiViteazul100 But the Cold War is over, and the US treats the world like shit. US citizens treat foreigners with contempt, and because of this, many people wish they weren't born here.
No, the world was far from nuclear war. There wasn't even a "classic" world war going on.
@MihaiViteazul100 People were afraid of nuclear holocaust because their own governments were making them afraid of it, not because of the Cold War. It's like how the western media terrorized people more than terrorist groups did, back when that was "the scary thing".
@4ingP 1.Thinking I don't know the difference between KGB and Red Army is like calling me stupid. 2. Almost all Americans hate foreigners. I don't know why, but they think America is the only good country in the world. 3. The Cuban Missile Crisis was the climax of the Cold War. If either the Soviet Union or America refused to move missiles, they would have resorted to Nuclear Warfare.
@MihaiViteazul100 1. He said he thought of the USSR, specifically the Red Army, as old friends as well as old enemies. You said that the secret police shot people, which would imply that you though the KGB was part of the army.
@MihaiViteazul100 2. And therefore, I must hate foreigners? And I'm blindly patriotic? The US (America isn't a country) is the most socially backward country in the first world, in my opinion, and foreigners are much better people than "US" Americans.
3. Not necessarily. Why would they destroy a world over a few missiles that weren't even immediate threats?
@4ingP Notice I said almost. Anyway, those Nuclear Missiles could attack almost any point in America, and America had them in Turkey which could destroy Moscow and surrounding areas. One push of a button if threatened too much and they would have destroyed the world.
@MihaiViteazul100 Yes I did notice. But what makes you think the countries of the world would destroy the planet over a few missiles stationed near an ideological enemy?
@4ingP The Soviet Union wanted Communism to spread all across the world. The US wanted Capitalism and Democracy to spread. They only stood between the plans of the respective countries was the other. Back then Nuclear weapons were always a possibilty. General MacArthur repeatedly sent requests to Nuke North Korea. US missiles in Turkey that could destroy Moscow bypassing the early warning system was a gigantic threat to the USSR. The only way to counter it was Cuba.
@MihaiViteazul100 I know about the Cuban Missile Crisis. The question remains. Why would one country launch nuclear missiles, knowing full well that their target would do the same thing towards them, just because that other power stationed missiles near them?
If anything, that would give both sides an incentive to fight a traditional war.
@4ingP It's easy to say that now, when the Soviet Union is gone. But back then, they were threat and they considered anything. Anyway, if someone was pointing a gun at you, wouldn't you want to have a gun pointed at him, too?
@MihaiViteazul100 How was it different then? Both sides knew the ramifications of nuclear war, so why would they start a nuclear war because a the other side stationed a significant amount of missiles near them?
If you want the other side to move their missiles, getting them launched against you really isn't what you want.
@4ingP Before the USSR had missiles on Cuba, America had them in Turkey. This gave them a huge advantage over the Communists. So they just equaled the playing field. America didn't want a threat of that magnitude so close to their soil so they got upset.
Let me put it this way: If you and someone else got into a fight and, hypothetically, every time you punched them, you felt the same thing they did, and you knew this, would you just throw down, or would you try to reach a different solution first?
@4ingP It's easy to put it like that. But if we were fighting for control of the whole world, I would continue fighting and hope he goes out first. Control over the whole world. No limits, no rules, just what you want. Would you want to try and reach a peaceful solution for that?
@MihaiViteazul100 As long as something is possible, you have the freedom to do it. You have the freedom to murder everywhere. You could speak out against the government in the USSR just like you could/can in the US.
By the way, the USSR doesn't exist anymore "...Soviet Union nor America. They *are both* power hungry".
@az35208 I don't believe I ever said that everyone was miserable in the USSR. On the contrary, I don't really think as many people were miserable in the USSR as we in the west are led to believe.
@4ingP It's all about control. I don't like the Soviet Union nor America. They were both power hungry (America still is), but at least you have some freedom in America.
@4ingP So, with two countries ready to kill each other with the press of a button, both refusing to move their missiles, the Cuban Missile Crisis was one inch away from nuclear war.
@4ingP Oh and by the way, we were one inch away from nuclear catastrophe. People threatening the lives of millions through the fear of nuclear holocaust is not the kind of people that deserve respect.

ussr is a crappy country what made east europe a communist nightmare ,north korea a bloody prison and china a poor mindless smoky dictatorship. FUCK COMMUNISM!!!
All tht happened was senseless. Whether dying in a Gulag or in a Nicaraguan fascist torture cell, or in Pol Pot's Cambodia, or in Pinochet's Chile - yes all of it stupid and senseless.
Yeah, a small group of Bolsheviks managed to capture power in Russian Empire, defeat White Russian bandits and the invading imperialist forces all without the support of the masses. /sarcasm
If Russia had the resources necessary back in 1917, the USSR would have survived and eventually turned into a true socialist state. It's sad that this couldn't happen. At least there was a true peoples' revolution achieved, even though the state turned into a what Trotsky called a degenerated worker's state.
North Korea is a bastard state, ensnaring the thousands of desperate and honest Korean workers and communist in Kim Jong-Il's cult of personality and totalitarianism.
i did not say NK is communist. there are no communist states on this planet and never was. but those kids from western countries who "know" everything about this "heaven on earth" called soviet socialism (or smthg like that no difference how you call shit) should visit NK.
corea is not socialism, because that is slavery dictatorship and ignorant, in the urss there wasn't slavery, the people built his country because they wanted revolution and a change.

people wanted revolution and change -- true. people supported / knew bolsheviks -- false. bolshevik rule was established because they appeared in the right place at the right time -- true. the revolution and change they gave to people was the one people were craving for -- false.
i doubt that people supported bolsheviks (for some time no one even knew that they took power :) ) however, i'm sure that stalin was heavily supported by brainwashed soviet people.
Zukhov1945, Yes Stalin was a murder, but he save USSR from Hitler, he made USSR from nothing. After WW2 there was nothing, only dameged citys and hugry people. And Napoleon, Washigton, July Cesar, Richard The Lion Heart and other also have kill a lot of people, but the are good, because they not russian. Okey, Stalin also is not russian, he is Osetian.
not brainwashed... it's a complicated and delicate problem to evaluate this period, every coin has two sides, "even" stalinism. About repressions: my grandma lived in Sverdlovsk since 1934, and she had a totally indisturbed life, but some of her chiefs were arrested :) that's it. and when she told about it, she added that there was a weigty reason to arrest them. However I don't negate that repressions affected an innocent people too.
@nicolaswilli Communism will return. It's coming is fueled by the injustices of Capitalism and it's exploitation of the people who labor under it's greed. Have faith, Capitalism will collapse as people finally break the chains of their slavery in realization that they are not dependant on the bourgeosie.
@pirate19791979 what did the first americans do when they first came to the land of freedom?lots of natives were killed,so think abit before talking about casualties ;).
@nicolaswilli I wish with all my heart! It was the best country in the world! We even didn't know the words like "drugs", "prostitute", "homeless", even ''sex'' :) etc... We were nor rich, but all of us were the happiest people in the world!
Communism is the ultimate saviour of us from our inherent human greed and selfishness. We need to realize that the world is bigger than each and everyone of us. Everyone of us is expendable, in comparison to the betterment of humanity.
I wouldn't say the world is bigger than us,i would say the world is more important than us!,i asked some one smart can Communism work,he said it can,but it can only exist if it has the right leader or leaders!,communism only works with the right mentality, greed of power is the big killer of communism!
CHECHNYA has too many Muslim terrorists who need to go to GAZA and get what the other murdering terrorists get.
I STAND WITH THE RUSSIANS ON THIS ONE!
NO TERRORISTS!
I wish Lenin's ideas would work because we are hurting from the GREED, RUTHLESS COMPETITION and SOCIOECONOMIC DISCRIMINATION that happened in capitalism. Stalin's ideas resulted in paranoia, murder and death.
I think Marx was inspired by the New Testament. ACTS 2: 44-46. It's all there. Read it and see,
Fuck you. Hundreds of innocent people are dying in Gaza just because Hamas - who were democratically elected by the way - killed 20 innocent israeli civilians over the past 8 years.
Marx wasn't inspired by the New Testament by the way. The New Testament is what Marx would call an example of "utopian socialism", while he based himself on scientific facts.
By the way, in the meantime Israel has already killed more civilians in 4 weeks than Hamas did over the past 9 years - including rockets AND suicide-bombing.
US wants to make Hamas a Evil faction, but Israel with US sponsor have killed (as you say) much more than Hamas. Not only that US and Israel wants to disarm the Hamas because Israel wanna control that land......
Most russians are raging closet capitalists. Thats why as soon as the wall came down it became a capitalist free-for-all and many russians started making billions while many had nothing. The governments and big industries in russia are controlled by organised crime.

He says he misses the Cold War because the Soviet Union posed a threat to America. Russia still has nuclear weapon, China is still Communist and they both still have very large spheres of influence. The USA doesn't push the big countries around, only the small resource rich ones.
MihaiViteazul100 6 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 No, and I never called you a retard. Why are you getting so defensive? Who are YOU to draw conclusions that shouldn't be made?
Well, can you tell me where he said or implied that he misses the Cold War for that reason?
If you read the comment as it's written, you wouldn't come up with all these ridiculous ideas.
4ingP 6 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 But the Cold War is over, and the US treats the world like shit. US citizens treat foreigners with contempt, and because of this, many people wish they weren't born here.
No, the world was far from nuclear war. There wasn't even a "classic" world war going on.
4ingP 6 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 People were afraid of nuclear holocaust because their own governments were making them afraid of it, not because of the Cold War. It's like how the western media terrorized people more than terrorist groups did, back when that was "the scary thing".
4ingP 6 months ago
@4ingP 1.Thinking I don't know the difference between KGB and Red Army is like calling me stupid. 2. Almost all Americans hate foreigners. I don't know why, but they think America is the only good country in the world. 3. The Cuban Missile Crisis was the climax of the Cold War. If either the Soviet Union or America refused to move missiles, they would have resorted to Nuclear Warfare.
MihaiViteazul100 6 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 1. He said he thought of the USSR, specifically the Red Army, as old friends as well as old enemies. You said that the secret police shot people, which would imply that you though the KGB was part of the army.
You're the only person calling you stupid here.
4ingP 6 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 2. And therefore, I must hate foreigners? And I'm blindly patriotic? The US (America isn't a country) is the most socially backward country in the first world, in my opinion, and foreigners are much better people than "US" Americans.
3. Not necessarily. Why would they destroy a world over a few missiles that weren't even immediate threats?
4ingP 6 months ago
@4ingP Notice I said almost. Anyway, those Nuclear Missiles could attack almost any point in America, and America had them in Turkey which could destroy Moscow and surrounding areas. One push of a button if threatened too much and they would have destroyed the world.
MihaiViteazul100 6 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 Yes I did notice. But what makes you think the countries of the world would destroy the planet over a few missiles stationed near an ideological enemy?
4ingP 6 months ago
@4ingP The Soviet Union wanted Communism to spread all across the world. The US wanted Capitalism and Democracy to spread. They only stood between the plans of the respective countries was the other. Back then Nuclear weapons were always a possibilty. General MacArthur repeatedly sent requests to Nuke North Korea. US missiles in Turkey that could destroy Moscow bypassing the early warning system was a gigantic threat to the USSR. The only way to counter it was Cuba.
MihaiViteazul100 5 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 I know about the Cuban Missile Crisis. The question remains. Why would one country launch nuclear missiles, knowing full well that their target would do the same thing towards them, just because that other power stationed missiles near them?
If anything, that would give both sides an incentive to fight a traditional war.
4ingP 5 months ago
@4ingP It's easy to say that now, when the Soviet Union is gone. But back then, they were threat and they considered anything. Anyway, if someone was pointing a gun at you, wouldn't you want to have a gun pointed at him, too?
MihaiViteazul100 5 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 How was it different then? Both sides knew the ramifications of nuclear war, so why would they start a nuclear war because a the other side stationed a significant amount of missiles near them?
If you want the other side to move their missiles, getting them launched against you really isn't what you want.
4ingP 5 months ago
@4ingP Before the USSR had missiles on Cuba, America had them in Turkey. This gave them a huge advantage over the Communists. So they just equaled the playing field. America didn't want a threat of that magnitude so close to their soil so they got upset.
MihaiViteazul100 5 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 You're not understanding what I'm saying.
Let me put it this way: If you and someone else got into a fight and, hypothetically, every time you punched them, you felt the same thing they did, and you knew this, would you just throw down, or would you try to reach a different solution first?
4ingP 5 months ago
@4ingP It's easy to put it like that. But if we were fighting for control of the whole world, I would continue fighting and hope he goes out first. Control over the whole world. No limits, no rules, just what you want. Would you want to try and reach a peaceful solution for that?
MihaiViteazul100 5 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 Yes, because otherwise there wouldn't be a world for you to have, even if you don't launch any missiles.
With nuclear missiles, it's not so much fighting for control of the world as much as it is taking useful land away from your enemy.
4ingP 5 months ago
@4ingP Both of them worked with the idea of : If I go down, he's coming down with me.
MihaiViteazul100 5 months ago
@MihaiViteazul100 Then they didn't care anything about the political orientation of the countries of the world, if that's true.

@4ingP It's all about control. I don't like the Soviet Union nor America. They were both power hungry (America still is), but at least you have some freedom in America.
MihaiViteazul100 5 months ago
@4ingP So, with two countries ready to kill each other with the press of a button, both refusing to move their missiles, the Cuban Missile Crisis was one inch away from nuclear war.
MihaiViteazul100 5 months ago
@4ingP Oh and by the way, we were one inch away from nuclear catastrophe. People threatening the lives of millions through the fear of nuclear holocaust is not the kind of people that deserve respect.

If Russia had the resources necessary back in 1917, the USSR would have survived and eventually turned into a true socialist state. It's sad that this couldn't happen. At least there was a true peoples' revolution achieved, even though the state turned into a what Trotsky called a degenerated worker's state.

And Napoleon, Washigton, July Cesar, Richard The Lion Heart and other also have kill a lot of people, but the are good, because they not russian. Okey, Stalin also is not russian, he is Osetian.
rusnache 2 years ago 8
not brainwashed... it's a complicated and delicate problem to evaluate this period, every coin has two sides, "even" stalinism.
