I did not want to go, but they obviously knew better than I. I never saw the "dark side" of DDR. Remember, i was a child and very naive and gullable.I believed Communist jargon they put into us at early age. For a child life was great in DDR. I never knew about Stasi until much later.

@4everRomanovs I went to GDR at least once a year since 1983 to see relatives at the Altmark-Region for a stay of five to seven days each time. Cities of East-Berlin, Leipzig, Magdeburg and Stendal I visited several times before and after the "Wende". I saw normal live of normal people who mainly had to cope with absence and paternalism. Das sozialistische regim der DDR bzw UdSSR ist nicht zu vergleichen mit dem Sytem das heutige Kommunisten/Sozialisten aufbauen möchten. Wir wollen einen demokratischen Staat. keinen totalitären wie damals. wir wollen, dass es allen menschen gleich geht nicht wie heutzutage in der Klassengesellschaft. Und das kann auch in einem demokratischen Staat funktionieren. Woher wollt ihr wissen, dass ein solches System funktioniert, wenn es noch nie ein solches gab?

Why not? After 1947 the soviet soldiers were keept in military facilities and keepts separated from the German civilians just the way NATO was. And why the americans never left getmany? I did not want to go, but they obviously knew better than I. I never saw the "dark side" of DDR. Remember, i was a child and very naive and gullable.I believed Communist jargon they put into us at early age. For a child life was great in DDR. I never knew about Stasi until much later.

@4everRomanovs I went to GDR at least once a year since 1983 to see relatives at the Altmark-Region for a stay of five to seven days each time. Cities of East-Berlin, Leipzig, Magdeburg and Stendal I visited several times before and after the "Wende". I saw normal live of normal people who mainly had to cope with absence and paternalism. Das sozialistische regim der DDR bzw UdSSR ist nicht zu vergleichen mit dem Sytem das heutige Kommunisten/Sozialisten aufbauen möchten. Wir wollen einen demokratischen Staat. keinen totalitären wie damals. wir wollen, dass es allen menschen gleich geht nicht wie heutzutage in der Klassengesellschaft. Im Kommunistischen Manifest werden keine Mauerschüsse oder auch nur die Einmauerung der eigenen Bevölkerung gefordert.
Warum gehen alle davon aus, dass in der DDR Sozialismus herrschte? Nur weil ihre Funktionäre es selbst behaupteten? Von vielen Gesetzen wird auch behauptet, dass sie sozial gerecht wären, und sie dienen doch nur den Kapitalisten, sich zu bereichern.
Ich würde sofort in einen sozialistischen Staat ziehen, der die Grundwerte der DDR wirklich vertritt! Krieg war nie eine Option!!

Der Krieg stand nicht in ihrem Parteiprogramm, aber er wurde offen propagiert.
Im Gegensatz dazu waren Hymne und Grundsätze der DDR durchsetzt von dem Gedanken, dass Krieg jeder Form zu verurteilen und um jeden Preis zu verhindern ist! Für "wollt ihr den totalen Krieg" wärst Du wahrscheinlich gelyncht worden. Krieg wird heute akzeptiert, aber nenn mir mal einen guten Zweck für die gefragten deutschen Landminen!

@SloMoPiano Ich finde den Vergleich eigendlich eher ziemlich treffend. Die Aussage ,,Wollt ihr den totalenm Krieg" wurde WÄHREND des laufenden Krieges getroffen. Woher willst du wissen welcherlei Aussagen die DDR-Führung im Fall eines Krieges so vom Stapel gelassen hätte. Wenn Hitler einen Krieg geplant hatte, dann frage ich mich, warum die deutsche Heeresrüstung so schlecht daauf vorbereitet war. Der Rüstungshöchststand wurde erst 1944 erreicht.

Meine Aussage "dass die DDR rechtlich gesehen eine Katastrophe war, die kein auch nur halbwegs vernünftiger Mensh wieder haben wollen kann." möchte ich präzisieren: Kein Mensch kann diese Regierung und Besatzer wieder haben wollen.
Ich könnte sie verfluchen für die Zerstörung einer einmaligen Chance und des Traums von Millionen friedlicher Menschen, die sich auch heute noch nach ihm sehnen. Wer die DDR wieder haben will, der meint die freie DDR der 50er Jahre in ihrem großartigen Grundgedanken.

Das erinnert mich sehr stark an das Christentum des Mittelalters. Jesus forderte klar zum Gewaltverzicht und Nächstenliebe auf, während die damalige katholische Kirche (analog zu den kommunistischen Parteien) Kreuzzüge führte und andersgläubige vernichten liess.

Wer die DDR immer noch idealisiert hat wohl statt eines Gehirnes einen Hohlraum mit Luft zwischen einigen Schädelknochen, die wohl auch etwas locker sitzen.

Hard to say what is better,the only thing I know for sure is that the soviet socialism was good and bad in many aspects, the same that is the american capitalism, it all depends where you stand in society, if you you come from a good cast and have money, you are ok even in Bangladesh, God forgive me. Na, zumindest die neueren Häuser hätten bis heute durchgehalten. Und ich wüßte nicht, womit die heizen würden. Wahrscheinlich müßten sie ihre Scheiße auffangen und verfeuern. Aber nach dem Zusammenbruch der DDR-Wirtschaft 1992 hätten alle sehr viel Zeit. Soviel zu denjenigen, die heute gern die Aber-keine-Arbeitslosen-Karte spielen.

In 1989 the diferences between east and western Germany was appaling. The income of an "DDR" family was aprox. 30% of the budget of a BRD one. Now they already reached 70%. Damaged cities, violent political police, ecological disaster, submission to the occupation Red Army, terrorists promoters, centre of drugs commerce, that was the "shinning" "DDR". Dead forever, I hope!

You are right, but a lot of people have not only a poor memory, they show a lack of any logical and free thinking. The brain is full of ideologies and prejudices. An the red ideology was and is like a virus, not treatable. Sometimes you can cure the symptoms, but there rarely is any immunity against the virus.

The problem of the laender of the former DDR are due exactly to the ...DDR existence for 40 years. State control, repression, lack of citizenship, no civilian liberties, corrupted Party system, etc. Why is so backwards regarding the ex- West Germany? Ask the communists.

@nunocbf yes, but in DDR healthcare and childcare was avaliable for everyone. And there were no homeless people. Now if you dont have money you are screwed. And was not the west submmited to NATO army, that, by the way, is still there? Nato was created to "keep the americans in, the russians out, and the germans down". Maybe you have heard this before. The ecological disaster part i agree whit you. DDR had bad things, but it was not hell on earth. There were good things too that are now lost.

Yes, the DDR keep the expectations very low and you speak about healthcare for everyone. And all the rest? The cities in such deficient state? And the lack of freedom, the policial rule, the extremist militarism. you can not compare even by far, the NATO with the russian occupation.

Why not? After 1947 the soviet soldiers were keept in military facilities and keepts separated from the German civilians just the way NATO was. And why the americans never left getmany? Ask them if they want the americans there. I am not saying that DDR was paradise. But my point is that many people demonize the country and never saw the place. Many east germans lost much more than they got whit the "unification" that's why today 57% defend their old country.

Here in Czech Republic the previous, pseudo-socialistic regime is defended (I am saying "defended" I do not mean, somebody wants it "as it was"... just it was in several aspects clearly better then the current one and the way capitalist propaganda speaks about our history is smileable) mostly by older, criticaly-thinking people.
