  • The voices in the japanese version seem a lot more believable to me. Lunge sounds much creepier in the jap version.

  • @Cujuhatchi

I gotta agree with you there.

  • I just started watching it on Netflix, it's incredibly interesting. I'm only like 10 episodes in so far but it reminds me of Halloween only with a more devilish and realistic Michael Myers.

  • Nice review. "Monster" is in my top three favorite anime of all time. Not alot of people appreciate the beauty of this type of anime. I have to say good job.

  • The only anime series with beleiveable hair.

  • I'm reading the manga, didn't know there was an anime too...

  • Just finished watching the series. I lol'd when you called Nina the Naive girl. if anything she's Headstrong

  • make more videos please :D because you are really good at them!

  • thanks for this review! it was very informative and no filler, also ur points of view are agreeable.

  • We need more anime like Monster.

  • I like this manga and anime.. The Masterpiece from Naoki Urusawa

  • No it's only the first 15 episodes. Viz, the american licensee, has "No plans to release further volumes on DVD".

  • is that a bootleg of the complete series on box set

I've been looking for the english sub on dvd or bluray

  • haha your house decor looks like stuff from monster

  • i liked monster Really much. a little slow paced but that's o.k with me. its pretty realistic although strange things happen and you get to know and grow to like the characters so it keeps being interesting. you have to pay attention in order to fully reconstruct the things that happened in the past. Besides, Johann is a truly impressing and terrifying antagonist despite of his usual physique.

  • I don't have any anime movies but I whant to, so I'm just saying that your so lucky!!!

  • I Rather Watch Anime Good Ol' English. Just Beacuse That That's My Native Tougne. I Really Can't Stand Subs. Just For The Simple Fact That They All Sound The Same To Me. Expectially When You Have Chararter That Is From Italy And He Has No Accent. I Really Can't Stand That. Just Stating My Opinon (Sorry For Typos)

  • @idudeWTF Stop capitalizing the beginning of every word and people will actually read your comment.

  • i have watched 32 episodes so far and i must say i am really impressed.

  • Giant robot, Giant robot, Giant robot........LOL

  • WTF!!! MONSTER ACTUALLY AIRED ON TV IN THE US?????

  • By the way... Johan is not a psychopath, he's a sociopath.

  • @shaneymane15 They are synonyms of each other. Many people think Psychopath means crazy, but it's actually a title of a person with an antisocial personality.

  • were can i buy the first dvd box set for this besides the internet

  • @TheHulkster1234 You can't you can only download it for free because only the first 15 episodes but you can download the rest for free msg me if u want the site link

  • i love your video :0

  • I looved your rewiew!!

  • Could it be that Urasawa watched Metropolis (1927)?

  • Great review! I do admit Monster can be sluggish at times, but what really draws me in about this anime is the atmosphere. The paranoia Dr. Tenma experiences is CONSTANT and connected to the viewer. Every character is questioned and really makes this series one of those unique anime where you actually think!

  • very good review!

  • He's absolutely right about the characters.

Johann is absolutely fascinating, a schizophrenic angel acting as both a nihilistic monster and an agent of retribution. I love how they build him from a third person perspective, and by showing how he influences all these characters around him. Especially with the Kinderheim thing, you never know for sure whether evil was instilled in him externally, or whether it was innate all along. A definite and riotous excursion into the human heart, I rec it!

  • great review by the way your quite good

  • Oh this is your first time according to the date

  • Why do you only have one video?

  • They need to release box set 2 of Monster. I have only seen the first 15 episodes because they haven't released box set 2 yet! Why won't they!?

  • where can u buy the rest off the boxsets

  • @walking00dead

Sadly only the a single set of the first 15 episodes has been released on DVD. I believe the only way to own the entire series it to purchase it through iTunes or PSN. I don't know what Viz's problem with releasing it is, but there you have it.

  • Monster is no doubt a well make thriller but when i think of anime i like to see a bit more of the not ordinary like a little fantasy. Monster seems to be like a realistic story with real human characters made into an anime form. I prefer death note.

  • When monster first came out, I was a kid in japan who couldnt sleep that one night and turned on the TV and the Opening song of Monster was playing. I got goosebumps, got scared and shut it off and went to bed.

Years later, when my uni when on strike I wanted to marathon some real good anime.I watched this. I loved every episode of Monster, even those small side stories. Monster is a masterpiece! Mystery, murder, twists, and teaches a whole lot to one person.

  • Finally someone who likes dubs!

  • @Relesy but...what's wrong with subs? :S

  • @Relesy i hate nerds that think they are cool when they say they like to watch anime in Japanese, its sooo annoying and nerdy and very stupid as well because if English or what ever language is ur first language then watching a show in Japanese or any language that u don't know takes away from the experience and the drama because first of all u don't feel the emotions as good as when u hear a language u understand and second thing is u have to read and that will take u out of the cartoon or show

  • @TheEgyptianOne Finally! Someone who has a great point of view! ^-^ And you're not even a rude person! ^-^

  • @TheEgyptianOne Sorry just had to butt in. I'm no purist by any means that only watch SUBBED anime. I prefer a good english dub for me to just enjoy the anime, the music, the visuals etc... rather than to concentrate on reading text.

That goes without saying... Bad dubbing destroys anime. I watched Monster in subtitled form because i bought the dvds from japan i had no choice. Although judging from the previews in this video, the dubbing is actually really bad.

  • But bad dubbing could destroy an anime. Ookiku Furikabutte is an awesome anime but it's not that popular outside japan. I first saw it in animax dubbed. The characters didn't have the same tone, sincerity to them. And there are a lot of subtleties that are lost in translation.

I think same is true with monster. Tenma sounded like a preachy whiny bitch. He sounded like an anime character being voiced by a generic actor.

though planetes, Satoshi kon films and Gihbli etc... have been dubbed well

  • Monster is absolutly awesome! And the manga is even better! :)

Visit my channel for manga reviews! ;)

  • God dubs sound awfull :O

    I recommend subs!

  • Excellent review for an excellent series. I've started to notice that more and more people have started to get into Monster as time has passed by. And that's a good thing.

  • agh!!... i love MONSTER people need to watch it!! why why why dont they release the entire series???

  • inspector runge

  • Great job made some solid points about all the smaller character developments which merge into the main story.

  • I subbed get more vids up.

  • I really liked your review, and completely agree with you that it is abnormal for an anime and also why I think I liked it more. I was wondering if you recommend any others because I've grown tired of the usual plot schemes of today's anime.

  • Monster and Phantom for the Requim ARE the best anime EVERRRRRRRRRR

  • im watching this on hulu right now. ha

  • When I first saw the anime back in 2004 I found myself unable to stop watching it. I lost many a nights sleep watching episode after episode. It remains the only anime over which I have lost sleep. I've preached the gospel of the epicness of Monster to anyone who will listen (a brief summary of the first 4 episodes).

A few of the English voice actors did a good job (really wish they would have gotten Wilford Brimley as Dr. Reichwein) but the rest like inspector Lunge fell.

  • The Japanese voices are so much better...

  • My first response to your wall was o.o ... then HOLY SHIT thats a lot of anime!!!!!!

  • Such a shame the english dub actors are bad as in most animes translated in america: they just dont capture the emotion of the japanese voice actors. Even in videogames there are better voice actors, just like in metal gear solid series.

  • i want my box set 2, but viz is ass dragging (Ive heard news that they cancelled it). why didn't viz just release a full box set, id pay 100 or even more for it. D:

  • Monster = Perfecrt anime series

  • i would love to see you reviewing an old school pearl "Angel's Egg" (Tenshi no Tamago). it is such an ignored title those days, even if its classic and surealistic.

  • I am a fan of monster already , and I was a bit amazed of how you reviewed it .

very nice video and summary , I downloaded this video to give to some of my friends whom I want to see the anime .

It is a shame that you made only one video in this channel , hope to see more videos in the near future from you

  • @MroMisery I'm glad you liked it. I've been intending to review more titles, school has been eating up more of my time than I though it would and has been delaying work on further reviews. I really want to get a review for Blood the last vampire up on Halloween though, so here is hoping on that.

  • Non capisco un cazzo

  • dude do more reviews ur great

  • @deathxcore11

thanks, I actually plan on doing a few more, next up is an older series called Sadamitsu. I'm should have something up in the next week or two.

  • @Channeler wow sweet

  • Hey Mister Channeler or anybody!! Did that box set that you had have all of the episodes of Monster? I really want to own this in physical form, even if it sacrifices better picture (digital versions)

  • @ThePSNGuy Sadly the Box Set only contained the first 15 episodes.

  • It's very good...And I love that Anime, I saw all the episodes twice, and sure it's a brilliant, unique one with a complex story. Good job =)

  • The episodes are also available on Itunes for pay-to-download.

It doesn't appear Box Set 2 will come out so if you want to own the series

Itunes is going to be the best bet. Good short review but the way.

  • I like the editing. And the beginning is hilarious ("Giant robot. Giant robot. Giant robot. Robot."). I also appreciate that you mention the issues Monster has, rather than just raving about every single aspect of the show.

  • Nice Review!Me Like :3

Monster sure is a unique anime..brilliant at least..why cant there be more like it.

  • @LutherOMight Yeah it is a shame, they have made some live-action films out of 20th Century Boys, the series Naoki Urasawa did after Monster, but I haven't seen them yet. But I'd say if check them out manga was wonderful. Every series Urasawa does seems to be better than the last.

  • great job! Are you related to Chandler from Friends?

  • Giant Robot...Robot...Teenage Hijinks...HAHAHA! Awesome. Nicely done.
