The fact there was no height sign on the bridge at the time of the accident led the driver to believe the bridge was 16' 6" or higher ie the bus would fit..!! This is something you are told in the driving school...no sign tells you the bridge is 16' 6" or higher...ask any bus driver/wagon driver, below this height, even 1" below, it needs a height sign..!!
Grab the oppertunity and just tidy up the top deck. This bus could be used for sightseeing, thus saving the expense of a costly conversion to an open top bus.
Cities such as New York, Chicago etc have them. Also Megabus uses them.... Do some research before yelling out random crap, will get you further in life. Ta!

They were given an emergency planned rail replacement, and were told to go to Thornaby station, they were never informed of the bridge, and the bridge didn't at the time have a warning sign. The driver just followed what First told him to do... If it had been any other double decker, it could have got through there, but this one is very high as it has an underfloor engine!

This is a BBCP incident. A BBCP incident is a BUS-Bridge-Compatability-Problem. The secret of the problem lies in the dimensions of the bus and the height of the bridge. The key to solving this problem is to incentivise the driver to avoid this from happening again. This is simply accomplished by moving the drivers seat from the lower deck to the upper deck. By having the drivers seat on the upper deck the driver can take ownership of the problem by empathising with other upper-deck occupants.
