  • Relient k's cover sounds wave better! I'm just saying! But I do agree this is 90's music way different from todays music.

  • hell ya. tht was sick but cmon..u cant cut off the boss in mid solo lol

  • Love the 90's. Music now is just not the same.

  • Man, Springsteen sure gives his ALL in this performance, incl. a burning little guitar solo.

Quite a seal of approval...he obviously loves this brilliant song. -and rightly so.

  • I think the second verse of the song (sung by bruce) was actually inspired by springsteen and his song "Independance Day" from the river. He sounds so natural singing it.

  • one of my all time fave songs. long live the 90's!

  • GOP fundraiser!

  • @cfhripdime04 No!! YOU suck

  • @cfhripdime04 : I fully agree..as a bruce fan it hurts me to say, actually I don't think I ever said anything like this about any of the man's performances, but this sucks

  • Epic. Wow

  • The dynamic between Bruce and Jackob is sooooo good lol

  • Ti capisce Ti ringrazio Ti Amo

  • Holy Cr@p - I was in the audience for these Awards. Can't believe I forgot this performance. This was before I got really into Bruce. I remember him on the red carpet getting out of a limo, but I totally forgot he performed... Thanks for posting!

  • bellloosss .. me encanta me4 e4ncanta esta cancion

  • Such a great song, will never stop listening to it, will never get old.

  • It really sounds cool...specially now!

  • Springsteen seems gay all the song. He likes Jakob Dylan

  • @rockskater012 agree

  • ayyy.papitos ricos me encantan como cantan esta cancion estan bien ricos los dos papasitossssss

  • Bruce with his old Fender, almost 40 years of playing

  • Rock & Roll baby!!!

  • No tiene madre que buena rola y aun mas con el jefe Bruce!!!

  • Stick!

  • We wonder if Sir Elton John stayed for the end of the program? Because this double Grammy winner made a perfect ending!

    Is it Jon or John?

  • @MalariaKidd It's gay lol

  • @Deneb16 It's Enola Gay the B-29 in pieces at the Smithsonian Institution in D.C., not lol but it was a hell of a finish for a heck of a start to the show!

  • Have Jakob and Bob Dylan ever done anything together? Also, It's awesome to see when they had good music on the VMAs

  • So this is what it'd be like if we could understand Bob Dylan

  • great wriing great singing they should do more together

  • How about a new Traveling Willbury's album with Jakob and Bruce in place of Orbison and Harrison.

  • @therebelrogue Bruce yes, Jakub no. I don't think Jakub reaches the bar for that kind of gig. Tom Waits, yes.

  • i got goosebumps listening to them singing into the same mic.

  • Wow this is good! I wish I actually knew what was going on in the 90s. too bad i was born in 92 and wasn't old enough to understand how good this music was! But I got chills up my arms when Bruce Springsteen came out!

  • my two fav singers <3

  • their voices go so good together the boss and jacob dylan love this performance allways come back to it

  • I like this

  • to die for!

  • The Boss kills this song so hard right here, he also killed Jacob Dylan and Wallflower's careers as collateral damage.

  • *instant favorite* Two of my favorite singers of all time together singing a song I've had memorized since I was 3-4.

    Thank you!

  • XD I think this was originaly supposed to be a sad song (a made a music fic with it :D) but they make it sound so fun to sing!

  • I could listen to this song all day...

  • @TheEbmax same here Bro... ;-)

  • jacob and bruce singing the gospel. this could have been a bruce song, they rip it together...

  • this song is perfect... Jakob Dylan is gorgeous

  • A song worth of the song of the greatest legend

  • amazing!!!!!

  • God Bless the Hammond B-3

  • OMG! I wish this could be bought as a single.

  • bruce springsteen duetting in this great song. awesome!!!

  • te amo

  • does anyone know what bruce is singing in the chorus in musical terms? is that a harmony of like singing other notes in the same key? i've always wondered about stuff like that.

  • wow...

  • Jakob Dylan is a grown-up. That's why this song works.

  • 名曲だぁね☆

  • i would love to get this with bruce

  • Impecable Bruce, demuestra lo que es ser un musico de raza,te arrolla como un huracan.Jacob esta anonadado con Bruce a su lado.UN GRANDE de verdad,Jacob logro compartir el escenario con su idolo

  • Wow! That's all that's necessary... This is awesome!

  • Классная песня

  • Bruce comes out looking leaner and meaner than he had in years, complete with bad-ass goatee and leather jacket, and snatches "One Headlight" right out of Jakob Dylan's feeble hands. He nails a great guitar solo, makes tons of great Bruce faces and even turns in the classic sharing-vocals at-the-same-mic-stand move. You're literally watching Bruce rediscover his ability to rock as the song goes on- bill simmons on this performance

  • what?.

  • Hey look, two people that want to be Bob Dylan.

  • its kind of his son

  • This is a great song, gotta say it did sound pretty good when Bruce got to sing a few lines himself, still i think Jakobs voice suits the song more.

Ima listen to this song 20 times now :(

  • was it just me or did bruce's voice not sound too great on this? other than that it was awesom though, wish i could see the rest

  • It did sound like Bruce held back, almost like not to dominate the vocals, and yes, wish I could hear the ending. Very good, ended too soon.

  • What was this taken from? It obviously was cut off before the performance ended. I'd love to see the rest, Bruce can solo his ass off on that Guitar.

  • @MrHandy1 this was from the '96 (?97) MTV video music awards. Even cut off, I was thrilled to find this on here awhile back..I never forgot what an awesome performance this was at the time, and am glad to be able to see at least most of it, anytime I choose now.

  • vaya par de dos!

  • in... presionante!

  • dont mess with the boss...100% boss power

  • Bill simmons!!!! The boss always wins.

  • the lyrics are just fucking great and jakob amazing

  • Are there somewhwere new songs of Wallflowers or Jakob Dylan?

  • @Rachelamilan Jakob put a solo CD out a little while ago and the Wallflowers released a CD of all their best material and some unreleased stuff called Collected. Jakob;s solo cd is awesome I havent heard any of the collected stuff yet but i've heard good things.

  • damn i love this post great song! just look at bruce drop dead gorgeous !!!!!bruce stole that solo at the end............

  • I think their voices sound pretty similar to each other.

  • Bruce can drown out anyone with his voice lol

  • ROCK and ROLL BABY!!!!!!

  • Such a sick performance!

  • wow

  • bob is great but bruce is godly, he's proved it time and time again. id rather see bruce when he's 90 then dylan at 30. regardless of what anyone says bruce cant be beat

  • That's not Bob Dylan that Bruce is singing with, it's Bob's son Jakob, and he is about 30 there!

  • thats jakob dylan, not bob.

  • That's one of the greatest rock'n roll video ever!!

  • I think Dylan was trying to maintain his normal tone as in when he recorded the song for the album, whereas Bruce was energizing his vocals since it was live for a crowd.

Personally I think Bruce was doing it here better than Dylan. You can see him trying to match Bruce's energy at 3:20

  • Duh. Jakob can't shine Bruce's shoes...

  • love it

  • uhm .. this song fits more to Jakob-quiet style.. than Springteen-energetic style.. becaouse at least for me, lyrics are mellancholic....

    anyway good collaboration

  • Jakob Dylan did a great job with this song, but I can't think of any artist who Dylan could have chosen who would have done a better job than Bruce. I'd have to say that this song with the addition of Bruce is much better than without him.

  • you realize this video is famous because the boss blows dylan out of the water in his own song, right?

  • Don't think so, Bruce always has to over emphazise and force himself to be cool where Dylan is like his Da, just relaxed and on the ball with out trying. Keep it up Jakob.

  • Mick, Jakob isn't fit to change Springsteen's guitar strings. As for Bob... yeah, he may be a better songwriter than Bruce (Bob's better than everyone, in that department), but his voice is terrible & he's a boring live performer. Outside of songwriting, Bruce has Bob beaten my miles & miles...

  • Like Bruce a bit, but hate the the way he mugs and forces himself to get where he could get a lot easier if he did'nt try so(oooo) hard.Maybe he should change his own strings or perhaps even play them.

  • Nobody writes a song like Bob Dylan. Bob is better than anyone else at songwriting, but Bruce definitely in his league in that department.

  • wow obviously you only watch bruce concert not bob's

he's a great live performer specially in the 60's and 70's, he's not boring.

    watch his 1963-1966 concerts

then tell us if he is boring...

  • by the way. bob is a folk singer turned to a rock star...

it obvious the you only know the folk side of bob dylan not the electric side

  • No, I'm perfect familiar with Dylan's whole discography. Electric or folky, he's not very good live. You should see that performance w/ him doing "Highway 61 Revisited" w/ the E Street Band backing him up & he was practically dead & his voice sounded awful. Face it... he can't shine Bruce's shoes as a live performer & I think most people would agree with me.

  • How true, Jakob is just going with the flow(his own).

  • there are not words..........JUST AWESOME

  • 1997 mtv--took my daughter and niece to see rehearsal--Spice Girls--walked in the side door rt into Bruce and Jon Landau- could not believe-he said -their here for the spice girls-i said yes--he smiled and said ME TOO.then he rehearsed for about 25 min w/ the band....awesome..

  • Epic... without a shadow of a doubt both are great!

  • wow.! what a fu$ng performance.the past and the future doesnt exist ha!. Mexico

  • Springsteen GOD.... Good performance

  • amazingggggggggg

  • There is no such thing as a bad Springsteen performance...it simply does not exist!

  • Springsteen is simply the greatest.

  • You cut off the Boss' solo. Death.

  • yeah what the hell....

  • haha...you are right..dead! :-D

  • No, MTV cut off the Boss' solo.

I always got a kick out of this one.

  • Oh, no maybe he did. But I think in the telecast part of it was also cut off.

  • Yeah, I'm sure mickeybrown and all of the rest of you f*cks are in great position to be criticizing either one of these two. I'm willing to bet none of you has the balls to pick up a guitar and learn to play, but you've got all the time in the world to sit on the sidelines with your insults. Have you ever considered shutting up, and just learning to listen, for a change? Or, do you just prefer to be another whining, hypocritical toadie, just like every other jerk with an Internet connection?

  • I think this was at the VMA´s of 1997... was a pretty cool show... 12 years ago! God, i was 15 years old

  • what the fuck is wrong with the boss' performance? I thought this was great.

  • man i really disagree with the last few comments. i think the boss brought his own style here and made this a great (albeit different) performance and if you notice, dylan even opens up and rocks out harder than the wallflowers typically do after the first verse. almost like the boss brought out a more fun and less dreary side of him.

  • I know this is not a good Bruce's performance but it seems he enjoyed it a lot .

  • lol i just wanted to write the same. LOLZ

jakob dylan proves a worthy descent of daddy.

  • no he dosent

  • they should call it "Bruce" not "Esquire".

  • Wow... Bruce reining it in... you can hear the effort!

I don't think they work together really, but the Wallflowers version is awesome on its own, I would have thought Bruce would enhance it but maybe they shoulda rehearsed more.

  • Que no se cuelgen de una Genialidad y Leyenda como Bruce Springsteen.

  • muito bom demais

  • couldnt the crowd at least pretend they enjoyed the performance

  • c'mon, peeps. this is just FUN!! remember? rock and roll is supposed to be FUN!!

  • @mommish amen amen

  • I'm so glad Bruce didn't take this song his own way...but kept the feeling of the Wallflowers. When I saw he sang on this song, I thought he would dominate...but its just perfect

  • Sorry, but I disagree. Bruce is wonderful, and so is Jakob, but they are singing in completely 2 different styles in my opinion. And it doesn't sound right to me.

  • i always thought jakob sounded similar to bruce in this song... for awhile i thought it actually was springstein

  • for the wallflowers, i think jakob is just right on feeling this song, i mean, he's not really as too headbanged or something, he's just natural. that's the way he is. although many said that bruce and jakob have something in common, i think bruce springsteen is being a legend of what he calls "rock music" on his on. and jakob, for me, has different genre and style that of bruce's. i believe they're both very good in their craft. and displays a different music statement to show off.

  • i guess bruce springsteen has a what you called "legendary syndrome" where being legend and ahead of these guys is a must. but, well, we can't do anything about it. that's the pride.

  • How come Bruce plays odd on the guitar when he sings, he just slams it.

  • whatsername from green day is like this song...

  • love it. anything bruce goes into is a definite gem. jakob's future is limitless

  • Bruce's solo is cut :(

  • outstanding performance of an outstanding song. the moment i first the wallflowers studio version on the radio, i thought of bruce.

  • Absolutely. This song sounds a lot like his style and something he would write (or wrote), hint: Independence Day.

  • wow greenday def. had to get part of the song watsername from thsi song

  • Great song.

  • bruce isn't a backing singer that is why it's tough doing harmonies.but his voice is better than jakobs on lead.jakob is too laid back for his own good

  • Bruce sounds much better than Jacob. He put more passion into it.

  • Awesome drummer!

  • Bruce Springsteen sounded nasty on the background voice

  • Cracking stuff from The Boss and Jakob Dylan. Good song.

  • I think that that Jakob and Bruce have similar voices, so this duo singing this song is a great idea. As far as the perfomance, some of Bruce's harmonies were questionable but overall it was great.

  • Yepp Bruce is god

  • yeah his sweet guitar playing and great singing and amazing as always stage presence are so awful

    .... (sarcasm)

  • Jakob's music career never ended. He has recently cut a new album. Another thing I dont agree with is why does everyone not like Bruce in this video. It seems like he did an alright job to me.

  • love this song !!

  • bruce ended jacob dylan's music career in this performance

  • I'll DIE if Bruce plays this tomorrow!

  • They cut in the solo???????? arggggg terrible

  • I think the guitar sounds better than the original, but I agree bruce bitchers it a little bit..... w/e still a good song

  • Bruce springsteen awful when he tries to do the higher voice at the chorus and when he says Hey...

  • wow sprigers ruined this wat a fucker

  • the bold dude cant play men he sucks

  • It only goes on for about 10 seconds more. The guitar at the end closes it.

  • how long tape this is?

  • MTV Music awards 1997

  • i couldn't have said it better myself!! go bruce!

  • bull shit
