Fun in Simcopter

Ugh I hate the fact that I lost the sheet with the activation code >.< I have the CD somewhere, but I must have thrown it out by mistake (the sheet D:)

Run SimCoper on Win 7:

1) Insert the disk and copy all of the files onto your hard drive.

2) Go into the SIMCOPTER folder and execute SimCopter.exe

3) Two errors will appear, to fix these download glide.dll and sst1init.dll and place these files into the SIMCOPTER folder.

4) Execute SimCopter.exe and enjoy the game!

Did anyone know that there was actually a controversy in this game? Apparently a game editor placed unauthorized coding in the game where a group of "himbo" males gather around the helicopter and kiss each other and if you hit them with the helicopter blade you made "easy cash" I really doubt the code is still there since they had to pull the game out for a second to remove it.

I remember importing a SC2K game Rivertown (210,000 people, riverside, coastal) game and playing it... and it was harder than a mofo. Most of the quests were in the other side of the map.

Even more suspicion, Rockstar chose the same month, October (like Simcopter '96), for the GTA debut in 97. So GTA is a modern version of Simcopter features.

i dont remember being able to knock over emergency vehicles, lol, but you cant drive the cars, BUT there is a cheatcode "Out for a Sunday Drive" and the camera will follow a random car (for me it was always speeders) and whats funny is you can still fly your helicopter, but you cant see it, so if u hover above a road or listen then you can find the car your following, and fly infront of it :)

You can perform the train rescue by waiting in the path of the on-coming train, hover about 10 feet off the ground. When the train passes under you, the victims will automatically be shoved into your chopper :-)

i remember this one mission someone had gotten hurt on top of the never stopping train and i crashed like 200 times while trying to land, pickup, and take off from a moving train. great game tho.

Aw yeah. I played this a LOT. I remember once a paramedic got himself hit by a train. Oh, I also blew up a nuclear power plant with my special helicopter. I'd also always keep making people go nuts with the "Greet" key which I think was F10? "Be happy!" *hot blonde shoots at my helicopter* I'd do that "Greet" thing next to hospitals like crazy and take the people over there and get money! Even the dogs got injured!

I used to sit for hours playing this game on my 486 machine with 98SE.

Once in a while I pull out the CD to play it and bring back memories. There is an option to play from CD ROM without install. I find that it will say "can not find Gluide.dll" (which I found happening on more than 1 computer). If you had this problem also, do this. Search the CD for that file. Should be in a system folder. Right click and use open with. Choose SIMCOPTER.EXE on the CD to open it. Should help it start.

No problem. At least I know I'm not the only 1 that had that issue.

Had kinda the same with other games doing actual "install." It will say that the Dir. X needs update but then says it's not a MS certified file. I skip it and proceed. Start the game and it says can't find D3D such 'n' such. Do kinda the same thing. Find it on the CD. Copy and paste in system32 folder.

I sit there saying "yu stupid computer, do I have to do everything for yu." HAHAHAHA!

You have to remember that Maxis had just been acquired by EA. EA wanted quick results for their investment, and as a result, SimCopter (along with Streets of SimCity) were rushed out the door. The result was bad graphics for SimCopter (but a great concept) and decent graphics for Streets but never much in the way of depth (or reliability!). Shame really.

I really reckon they should remake the old classics like Sim tower and Sim copter. I Love the fact that you can import cities you've made in sim city 2000 and fly around in them which I think was quite an achievement for it's time. I think Maxi's dream was to make every game they made compatible with each other. Be really cool to see modern versions of this. Imagine making a tower in sim tower, putting sims in it from the sims, then putting the tower in sim city and flying in it with your sims!

If in the custom map maker you place tons of jets and let a empty niche in the group a apache would be there if you played it in sim copter. You could burn down the whole city and kill people

lol I found a random glitch on XP with simcopter I cleared a traffic jam that hadn't occured yet and it restationed in an area within the megaphone so it counted as completed, it just keeped rebasing itself inside the megaphone limits and marking as complete! I got billions lol
