  • 45 ppl either are retards attempting poetry = suck ass rap lovers, or they do not understand what real music is. Which also makes them retards.

  • Does this make up for Rick Perry?

  • @Brennansdad Yes, even Ron Paul too. W? That's a tough one.

  • Epic Johnson!

  • This is, without a doubt, the single baddest thing I have ever seen in my life.

  • hehe Cause life is a game...so let`s play it to the full

  • i love Eric Johnston!!!

  • OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 45 people don't even know what a guitar is..

  • @tentwistedfingers I can see if you don't get it and it doesn't move you, but to actively dislike this blows my mind.

  • @tentwistedfingers i'm glad that number has stayed the same for 5 months

  • @tentwistedfingers - They know what guitar is...and at times EJ can get a litle overblown with the scale exercise-esque playing. He admits it in other videos that he can wander off.

  • RIP Bill

  • his chord work is almost as cool as his lead playing

  • fuckin genius

  • YYYYYY AAAAAAA WWWWWW NNNNN

  • Is it me or did that intro move anyone else!!! Wow, he probably has the prettiest licks ive ever heard!!! There so tasty!!! This is delicious guitar playing and how guitar should be played!!!

  • I love Eric's playing and I want to buy Fender guitar ... God, give me enough money to buy Fender original guitar (plus stomp boxes) ... LOL ...

  • when I see eric johnson, I see a lot more besides a guitarist. I see a great musician and an great composer who is known for his melodic phrase, by his guitar tone but the most important of all, this gentleman is a perfectionist.

  • incrível !

  • sublime . . .

  • What is the number which begins @ 4:30 called?

  • @degekkejoop cliffs of dover

  • Master of the arpeggios....nice!

  • Pretty awesome this guy! :) Love his tone, and formulation!!! Oh, and I have a strat very, VERY similar to that one!

  • This is seriously the most musical music ever musiced.

  • looks like around 6:43 Eric had equip failure on one of his amp settings. He stays calm and collected--what a pro!!!!

  • looks like around 6:43 Eric had equip failure and the Tech is shiteing his panties!!!!

  • i loved jamming to this song on Guitar Hero...and yes thats the only way ive heard of him or that song.

  • @jMan9244 you're just setting yourself up to be knocked out of the ballpark with that comment.

  • @jMan9244 are you crazy?.....and you claim to have jammed?....u r crazy...

  • oh my goodness, at 2:52, those few notes, I don't know why but they just sound so magical

  • Great playing. Interesting to see where Joe Bonamassa has found some of his inspiration !

  • the bass player has the same bass guitar i have!! it looks just like it!!

  • 42 soulless numb people hit the wrong button....

  • Beautiful tone, phrasing and conception. However, can't hold a candle (or a match) to Shawn Lane.

  • @Easleytee - you know what I hate about people like you. You always think it's a "who's better than who" contest. It's like saying that Eddie Van Halen is a million times better than SRV, it's two completley different styles of playing. Or Yngwie could never touch Jason Becker's guitar skills because he can play sweeping arpeggios alot faster. This isn't a guitar contest to see who's better than who. music is suppose to be something you enjoy listening too & not a "who"s better than who" contest

  • Your Right, friend!!!...i think like you!!!...

  • @cockdumpster

What you say is 100% correct.

  • @cockdumpster Amen bro.... amen.

  • @cockdumpster Buckethead rules them all. lol

  • 1:51 orgasm??

  • @OnTaRgEt16 hahaha!

  • Shut the !@#$ UP ! Its Eric Johnson playing ! how can you even breathe in that moment ! stop shouting ! :D

  • imo his note choice take no directions that make sense in western music. i used to love ej but lately its such an unpleasant listening experience

  • 41 kindergarten guitar players are jealous

  • EJ just played 5,432,675.8 notes...I counted every one

  • Eric Johnson... has super Dexterity also..... Steve Vai n Eric are about even ! Prob???........He's a Legend..!!! Definitely!!

  • Oh lordy!

  • @zama011 pick a bale of cotton?

  • show off

  • drums sound crappy,, offense

  • when u finally think u can play the guitar FRIGGIN ERIC JOHNSONS SHOWS UP ON YOUR SCREEN AND YOU THINK EHHHHH OMG WHY IS HE SO DAMN GOOD !!! ERIC UR THE GREATEST !!! RESPECT !!

  • legend...he is one of the guitar legend!

  • Boy sure can play. Wish I was as good as him.

  • This is basic rock. If rappers start liking this, then soon rap will be extinct. Because if they like this then they would move up maybe even as high as 3XTR3M3 UB3R F4N OF POW3R! of MetallicA themselves.

  • E UN FENOMENO

  • incredible

  • Huh !? Where is the ''I love Eric Johnson button'' ?

  • @WeslieJJ94 sadly, not enough people now-a-days know about him to even think of a button like that, but if there was, I'd hit with you, such an under-rated guitarist

  • @WeslieJJ94 They knew it would be spammed and clicked too many times by everyone so they didn't bother putting one up.

  • @WeslieJJ94 his girlfriend has that button :D

  • @WeslieJJ94 its called his cock...jump off of it....hahaha jk. this guy's literally the best guitarist i've ever seen

  • 41 people are gay

  • where the love button? how can you hate this?!

  • The Indian phrasing at ~1:50 gives me a mental erection.

  • so good! in my opinion best player out there!

  • dude can really make it sing...

  • 2:27 beast mode

  • Its kinda good that this video is only in 240p

If it was any higher i would have lost that last little non- melted piece of skin left on my nose.

  • 40 people should have been listening to Big Time Rush on Nick at Nite.

  • @EMNEIL03 haha true! i cant stand that f*****g programe!

  • Thumbs Up if you did do the same as the woman at 7:06 (:

  • 40 hearing impaired people decided to vote

  • Absolutely the Best Guitarist on the planet. I've got all of his solo releases, its the best way to listen and appreciate his "total" musical abilities (playing & producing).

Only once in a life time do guitarists with this talent come 'round. Once you have a Top rated guitar company (Fender) dedicate a signature guitar after you, then I believe that its time he got his due, but he's been very very good for a very very long time. For most music listeners, Eric doesnt appear on their radar.

  • Excelent..!! no words..!!

  • Don't hate me, BUT...I hear a lot of mistakes in his runs and a lot of sloppy missed key notes. I am impressed by his tone, but feel like he’s sort of incomplete as far as being a virtuoso player. He’s a great composer and most of the melodies are juicy and listenable, however, I think he blew it on a lot of the sweetest notes of the memorable phrases on this performance. I like EJ a lot, but am disappointed by this take. It's like he's rushing, or had not practiced a enough beforehand. Sorry!

  • @RobertBorden121 Do you have any clue about the guitar?? Ok, let's start with the basics: It's a stringed instrument. It has 6 strings. You use your fingers to play it....etc...

Amazing how someone could come on here and criticize a master and say "he had not practiced enough."LOL Youtube is always good for some laughs in the comment section.

  • @RobertBorden121 I sort of understand what you're saying, BUT to tell you the truth, I don't mind it when a great guitarist like EJ flubs a note every once in awhile. It reminds us that even the giants are only human, and it gives us mere mortals a glimmer of hope regarding our own playing. It's like, hey, if a great musician like EJ can occasionally flub a note, it's o.k. if we do, too. Always strive to be better, but in the end, remember, we're all only human. Play on!!

  • @jamitt I definitely enjoy EJ and he was great when I saw G3 live but I was watching this video because I wanted to hear what I hear on the recording and in this take it was just not quite there. He seems lost in his phrasing and misses on a couple of the real "money notes" in the melodies. My prediction is that this is probably not EJ's favorite performance of his either. I agree with enjoying some flubs, but it was on so many of the best parts of the tune.

  • @RobertBorden121 i don't think he's necessarily 'missing notes', he's just improvising over the melody. i agree that it can be frustrating when the song isn't played like it is on the record. on yngwie's dvd LIVE he solos pretty much the whole way over far beyond the sun and it's terrible.

  • If carslberg did guitarists ...

  • Nvm...it's a Strat..

  • One of the top ten guitarists in the world, right here!

  • different bass and drums player and its soo easy to feel the difference...

  • Does he sing on his albums? Would love to hear song songs. What a player

  • @Gerazini He sings on all of his albums... High landrons, Friends, Desert Rose.... you must not be looking hard enough.... or at all.

  • @9erMatthew Its chuck norris singing on the most of the albums ya know, not eric

  • Best clean tone ever in the history of man! HF

Vintage Marshall and Fender amps create that unreal tone...

Eric is the mad professor virtuoso

    Bass player is also unreal!

  • @Axeman2006 Excellent call. People don't call EJ the King of Tone for nothing. :)

And an even better (because it's less obvious) call on the bass. Chris Maresh is a FANTASTIC bass player, IMO.....and in the opinion of many others, as well. He used to play with another powerhouse guitar player from Austin - Monte Montgomery. TOTALLY different style, but also a great musician. I think EJ's music suits Maresh's talents better, though.

  • Geeeees, i cant BELIEVE this guy stole this song from Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock!

  • @phileose hopefully your comment is a joke, it is hard to interpret sarcasm on youtube comments, but this guy MADE this song. The video game asked him if they could use it. again, sorry if i missed your sarcasm :)

  • @TwoBitSodapop haha, no worries. Course I was joking, this guy is a genius!

Get what you mean about the sarcasm on youtube comments tho! Peace

  • I love the way this man plays the guitar... He makes it sound so freakin' beautiful!

  • It is not guitar playing, is guitar.... something else not discovered yet by human perception, omfg, the harmonics.

  • Eric puttin that BLUES thang in on this one YEAH!!

  • FUCKING GENIOUS....is all I have to say.....Love you!

  • Absolutely transcendent talent.

  • 39 regayton and disney music fans

LONG LIVE THE ROCK N' ROLL lml

  • just fantastic

  • wow

  • I just can't say anything.

there's something deep inside EJ's tone and music.

    which is undescribable.

  • Hi !

I have a 1979 strat with 2 single coil pickups and a humbuker Dimarzio super distortion in the bridge. My amp is a Hughes and kettner tumbe 50 combo.

How can i get that kind of sound ? (2:30) What should i buy ?

    Thank you : )

  • @SweeetPicker Oh yeah, i have a boss digital delay DD1, too !

  • @SweeetPicker so now you're E.J.?

  • @charlieboy1999 Well, my tone sounds like him ... But i have a lot of works to do again : )

  • @SweeetPicker dude, EJ is so hot, he could dial your rig in to get his sound. it's the man not the gear. your gear is fine.

  • @zimbobwayalpha Hehe, i know it's the man who make the sound ... But ok, i'll try with my gear : )

  • i liked the improve more than the song haha

  • el mejor con las guitarras!!!

  • eric johnson has with derek trucks the best tone in the world

  • damn, his a god on the guitar

  • Good improviser... But still Lenny Breau, no one can improvise like that guy, no offense... But maybe you won't like Lenny because of personally taste...

But Eric Johnson's improvisation sounds so like the Steve Morse 8 1/2 Minute Unnamed Solo... So Steve Morse took so much from Eric or vice versa or just coincidence they sound alike...

  • easily my favorite guitarist- or better said virtuoso. This is my favorite of his live shows

  • never known anyone get a sound and style like this guy!! i see where Bonamassa gets his unfluence from!!

  • I think what we have here is a rare case of someone who is way too talented for the instrument they're playing (in other words, his guitar is holding him back). The few times he "messes up" near the end seem to come from a frustration that his instrument won't do what his brain is imagining. Eric Johnson is a god, and darn it there should be an instrument of some kind out there that a god can show his real creativity on. +10 Internets to the first person to create such an instrument!

  • I love this intro, his note choice/phrasing is just amazing, shame about the band tho

  • i have a guitar...i learnt pentatonic when i started to play and i played again and again, and each time i here this guy,im always asking myself if we playing the same instrument.....

How its possible to make penta sound like this.....a real miracle ? no just an amazing genius. When i seen him i kept mouse open during 1 hour brefore realize where i was it was the end.....

the best "travel" in my life

  • @MultiRiffer it's a magic intervals.

  • brilliant ....this guy, eric johnson is really a genius!

  • damn, that intro was effing brilliant!!

  • This made me gay for 10:02 minutes

  • @randomchap100 lmfao!!

  • THIS is so fuckin amazing.

The first time i heard Eric playing was this Video, and it changed my hole Style of playing the Guitar. I start to let the notes breath and give them room.

Thank´s for that Mr. Eric Johnson!

  • never once have i heard him play this song in the same way.. he plays it differently every single time.. every concert.. i swear haha, hes so creative

  • 37 fuckin justin bieber fans.... poor stupids they dont even know about music...

  • great song and fantastic musician but every time i hear it i cant help thinking it sounds like a christmas song lol

  • the god among humans.....

  • 37 people clicked "dislike" by accident

  • wow this is incredible! just look at that dull audience.. don't they know they are in the presence of a guitar god?

  • 47 years old, played drums for years, heard thousands of guitarists and not a one has the unbelievable tone that Eric Johnson does. All time favorite guitarists include, in no order of favoritism -- Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Gary Moore, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Stevie Ray, Alex Lifeson, and a few others I can't think of now. And still of all those above none can produce the powerful yet haunting tones of Eric. Amazing.

  • What a beautiful tone.

  • he's amazing creative man!

  • You know Vai and Satriani can's light a candle against this guy.

  • Ok, so now someone is gonna have to help me pick my jaw up off the floor! ;)

  • A master of his trade. Fantabulous!!!!!

  • EJ ~ The Improv King

  • absolutely epic in any and every way

  • Wow what a great version !!

  • EJ is classic and one of a kind musician.

  • EJ is classic and one of a kind musician

  • So beautiful :)

  • I am absolutely befuddled that 36 people voted that they disliked this video. How??? Do they dislike music?!? This song and Eric's playing are phenomenal!

  • does anyone know what kind of guitar settings he is using

  • I need a cigarette.

  • WHERE CAN I FIND THIS ON DVD!!

    ERIC IS GOD, HENDRIX WHAT?????

  • THE MASTER!

  • MAGIC JOHNSON ! ! !

  • I have seen Eric Live in Concert, and have heard many versions of this song Cliffs of Dover.

I beleive this is by far his best Rendition.... : )

  • Shades of Shawn Lane in the improv.

  • @ubustang You mean there were shades of Eric Johnson in Shawn Lane's improv...

  • @kirkhetfieldtrujillo I've definitely noted this.

  • @kirkhetfieldtrujillo Yeah, a little maybe. Some pentatonic things. Shawn Lane was probably the best guitarist that ever lived :P

  • Still one of my favorite songs.

  • why hasn't this come out on DVD?

  • wow, you suck. go learn to play guitar. hahaa kidding, probably the best guitarist to ever live

  • Diminished arpeggio at 9:11 :) Go git um Eric!!!

  • Like jelly on peanut butter , mustard on a hot dog & whipped cream on a sundae-- Eric has conquered the art and beauty of memorizing us with his calling !!

  • Fucking Genious!
