I have downloaded tried many other tutorials to no success. Finally, an instruction that works!! Your effort in sharing this is greatly appreciated, camarush. Aloha from Hawaii!
I disagree with needing to copy the files onto your computer first. I import directly for tape cameras and hard drive based cameras and the files are never lost. That is because when you import the files into iMovie it is actually copying them into another location on your hard drive. That means that if you import them to your computer first then bring them into iMovie that you are double the amount of video you now have on your computer. iMovie is just duplicating the video.
Hey, great video! I have a question about using Gopro HD footage in imovie. Had you changed the format of the gopro footage before you imported it, or was it still in the mp4 format in your file? And if you let imovie "optimize" your footage, does it decrease the quality very much while changing the format? I just purchased a GP HD, and i've been reading it's really hard to edit/import the footage without loosing a lot of quality. Any info/tips? Thanks!
@qcages Just leave it in MP4 format. iMovie will automatically convert it to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). It will not decrease the quality, it's a better codec.
i have a question for you. how do you get footage from the gopro onto the mac?

So when you copy it onto your computer, are you just saving it as you would any other file? Thanks.

@TACSIM1 Just copy the files over to your computer and iMovie will convert them in the background.
