  • There is nothing to be ashamed of here.Jaco surely stood on the shoulders of other GREAT players, but he was a perfect storm on his own.A head full of fabulous music, great fingers and a great ability to play "in the moment".Its pointless to speculate about drugs or mental illness when considering his gift and his impact.None of us were acquainted with him other than a handful of ppl who never knew more than half the story anyway.if he moved you at all, just dig it..if not, just walk on by.

  • jaco is god !

  • the mad genious of the bass

  • leo fender really knew what he was doing when he designed the jazz bass!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Crazy,Impressive and Interesting for sure! Educated people will see this for the real deal! SUPER!!!! Great!!!

    Simply My PLEASURE!!!!!

    Peace

    JaK

  • Great !!!

  • jazzturbation

  • Jaco Pastorius developed the bass as a solo instrument.

  • He was a modern Charlie Parker!

  • Jaco is not only one of my favorite bassists, but also one of my favorite musicians. He was the guy that got me into playing jazz.

I always knew his hands were big, but when I saw them at about 8:40 I didn't realize that they were THAT big. Holy cow...

  • Pure genius He influenced so many other bassists. He really turned bass into a lead instrument

  • I just wish he would pull his pants up a little higher.....but seriously, always awesome no matter what he plays!

  • Jaco shouldve learned karate that way he couldve defend himself..I heard he knew how to do a backflip

  • Man, Jaco was great even when he wasn't high! Now that's a bassist! :'D Shame he died at such a young age, I would of loved to see him live in concert. He, Christian McBride, and Victor Wooten should of started a band :'D

  • no wonder he was influenced by stravinsky..

  • Jaco really brang the bass limits to a higher level. And from then, others like Stanley Clark,Victor Wooten and more continued to feed young bassists with great ideas! Jaco lived short, but He did so much to music world! We salute You Jaco!!!

  • totally out of line, come on, you should be ashamed of yourself

  • much appreciated

  • Yo, if you are gonna hate on jaco for reasons like this, there are plenty of other videos on you tube of him later on that are more suitable for something like that. This is in his prime, and in my opinion, one of the BEST videos of him up here. So have some respect. And if you don't like him, don't watch him :)

  • he wasn't addicted to any malicious substances, he was bipolar. There's a HUGE difference.

  • @yeatsg

I think he did come addicted, at least towards the end.

    Over-excessive consumption of malicious

subtances while at the same time being a sufferer

from bipolar illness is not a good combination.

Many people who have to endure mental illness

try to self-medicate them with alcohol and

narcotics to escape from their increasingly

difficult situation. Jaco was no exception.

  • @Pastorius 333 No truer words spoke. Self medicating is not only dangerous but the people and places you end up in can be worse. Some of us are lucky enough to survive, and some others unfortunately are not. Wish people were more educated on drug and alcohol addiction along with mental illness.

  • forse perché non capisci niente....

  • Jaco is a mejor playing bass

  • greeg

jaco las cago is a mejor bass playing

    incredible

  • One of the greatest moment in music history. No doubt.

  • Does a Reverb or Delay pedal have the same effect as Jaco uses? i.e so i can play a riff and then jam over it forever :]

  • That "effect" jaco used is the bass. It's a fretless. AFAIK he also used some chorus and delay.

  • what is that song that he plays at 5:25

    i must know

because the other bass lines during that he plays funky broadway by wilson pickett and them changes by jimmi hendrix

    which i both know

but what is that other one????

  • It's "Simple Song" by Sly & the Family Stone.

  • thanks a lot

  • Jaco is King!

  • no way.

    Jaco is GOD!

  • i could listen to this guy all day! GO JACO!!

  • jaco eri un fottuto genio...

  • fucking amazing!

  • dios bendiga a jaco pastorius

  • why dus it make tht thumping noise wen he hits his amp

    :S

  • i'm not sure exactly what you're referring to but the only thing I can think of is that he has a spring reverb in his amp so the spring vibrates and gets picked up.

  • sei un mito J.P.

  • jaco how fast can you travel?

Ill be in punta cana tomorrow!

  • you go to puta carajo cabron, te voy a titar

  • Hehe he just grooves out changes from jimi hendrix at 5,50,

  • what a great performance.

  • jaco = the best

  • I' d like to listenning jaco with band

  • the height of his powers

  • Happy Birthday JP.

  • I love how he smacks the Amp!! I've done that more than a few times! LOL

    Love ya brother Jaco. :-)

  • This is what makes Jaco one of the most innovative bass players ever.

  • gotta love jaco!

  • 5:37 GREAT!

  • excellent. one complaint, you cut the video off 1 second before he jumps off the amp.

  • fools the lot of yas, thats the sexiest nine minute fart youre ever gonna hear in your life.... lead bass can express sentiments and states of mind beautifully and complete just as well as any other lead intrument. go take your moaning about what you like or not like to your girlfriends house not on the comments page for one of the best music perfomances on yout tube.

    thankyou

  • because a truck gets over speedbumps, that's why. Jaco also had an upright but it couldn't cope with the Florida humidity so it fell to pieces after a few weeks, so he decided to rip the frets out of his Fender, to get a similar sound.

  • ..... Upright give you a different feel and an acoustic sound bassrafe so your statement wouldn't make an sense what so ever.

  • jaco's fretless.

  • its ment to sound farty basically. atleast you can hear electric bass. upright bass sounds cool on charles mingus and the other greats, but otherwise you can barely hear it. and upright bass solos tend to pull notes out of no where.

if you dont like it dont watch it.

  • Yeah you are right on that. Lead bass does suck alot of the time, because its not really right is it. Personally i only like Jaco, because unlike the others, he doesnt play when its not appropiate. Sometimes, he does things that dont quite fit..but he knows more of moderation then Marcus and Wooten. I think at least.

  • Rowna spry sometimes its best to break out of a box you been trapped in and start changing things. lets not play the same music everyone else is playing, where is that going to get you? Start something new!

  • well i posted that 2 years ago... and what do you mean? Your comment would have made more sense if i said all i PLAYED was jaco, which i dont. I havnt played bass for about 2 years now, but when i did i did my own thing

  • then what do your farts sound like?

  • ur an idiot

  • Very inciteful comment. You are a thoughtful person. And an asshole.

  • JACO! THE ONE AND ONLY!!

  • cliff burton -guy can play his stuff but it is NOISE POLLUTION! Jaco is supreme.

  • The Chosen One - i think

  • So far the best footage of Jaco Pastoirus playing live. AMAZING.

  • To end it all with "The hills are alive with the sound of music" This guy was brilliant! A tragic loss.

  • Buddy Miles quote, "them changes"! One of my faves, this is a great video...thanks so much!

  • Dutch export, maybe the Dutch will be known for good Jazz and the first electric fretless bass instead of the damn Gouda cheese, klompen (clogs/ wooden shoes), tulips and windmills. Thanks.

  • I love this! Thanks!

  • my bad cliff burton

  • shut the fuck up......you trying to make yourself sound like a god damn music expert......his name is cliff burton for all you people who dont know their music....bitch

  • who really cares about Cliff Burton lol. who cares whos acting like a music expert. jaco was the best.

  • (not only to you but all stupid people)

    Cliff plays Metal.

Jaco plays Jazz and funk for the most of the times.

Guess what. They play diffrent stuff so you cant realy say cliff is better then jaco or viseversa.

Sure Jaco has proven that he is a genius and that he can play every style of music pretty much. But Cliff was just another bass player with soul like Jaco. Maybe not as trained at everything but still hell of a metal bass player...

  • CLIVE????? HAHAHAHA omg HAHAHAHA clive thats rich omg iv never laugh so hard in my life.

    .......... it's CLIFF dumb fuck

  • parrez that is probably the funniest comment ive read.

  • I don't think I've seen this one before. Thanks for the upload!
