@csland Its a 20 year old shut down station and with 170+ more shut down stations why would they need to track it? And not to mention it was traveling above 18000mph going around the earth every 92 minutes so this is really accurate considering those factors.

It seems totally weird with their technology to not be able to pinpoint exactly where it will fall, knowing that they can track almost anything in the universe with great precision... also no clear video of it falling...
@csland You can't pinpoint something that breaks up. Any bend or break in the thing can cause it turn once it's in the earth's atmoshere. A slight bend in the metal would act like a rudder and can cause it to turn left or right, it doesn't come down in a defined path like a missile would that is dead set on a target. Satelites fall, and more will eventually fall back to the earth.

Nice! But NASA said the debris field would be somewhat narrower than that - "only 10s of miles wide", and I'd say it would be wider at the near end (lighter stuff falling more slowly and more affected by wind) and narrower at the far end where the heavy dense stuff lands.

NASA’s decommissioned Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite fell back to Earth between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 23 and 1:09 a.m. EDT Sept. 24. The satellite was passing eastward over Canada and Africa as well as vast portions of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans during that period. The precise re-entry time and location are not yet known with certainty.

@AstatineHydride: I think the satellite tracking website is based on mathematics, NOT actual data, as it show it's still at 150Km altitude. Fooled me too - rather disappointing...

From Wikipedia: "Reuters news agency reports indicate that villagers in the western Nigerian town of Ogbomosho saw shooting stars in the pre-dawn sky at approx. 5:45 am on Sept 24 that has tentatively been identified as the likely debris from the UARS satellite. Earth's surface is 196,939,900 sq. miles which equals out of 3,200 people, 1 person per every 61,542 sq. miles.
The chances are even slimmer considering humans only account for 1% of Earth's surface.

Dude, light travels at 186,000 miles per second. It's not going to travel even close to the speed of light, let alone faster than the speed of light. Nothing we know of travels faster than light except light.
