All 3 of the crew members died. their helicopter encountered vortex ring state or "settling with power". this happens when helicopters hover out of ground effect with little to no airspeed. the blade-tip vorticies enlarge over the rotor disc decreasing lift causing the helicopter to sink into its own downwash.
