Here in Denmark we have had some reports of schools that were in a bad way but man.... American school seem to have even the very worst beaten by several miles. Is this the equal opportunity we all hear so much about is the key thing in America?

It's pretty horrible, whatever you choose to call it. Not that i think it helps much when it comes to how high the government will value education, but i do think that this project is awesome. Helping out kids rocks:-)

I went to a public school. It was pretty good, but they have higher taxes where I lived to pay for a better school. It's kind of like that here, the quality of your school is in proportion with your taxes if you go public. If you go private, they're supposed to be better, but apparently not by much. Those that can afford it essentially try to get everyone into a private school, or no school at all. America's priorities are out of whack, we're more worried about Muslims than being stupid.

But that "anything" is a lot of times conditional on external factors. On this show community without the funding of an economically interested TV show would have accomplished the same it has accomplished for the past 10 years - shit.

As i agree that they are volunteering in large because of the show and the resources the show brings to the table but if people see this and see how bad soe schools aare they might just get curious about the shape their kids school is in... so all in all to get people aware and to get them to even have the possibility of action will be bring things that haven't been in the last ten years...

Let's assume a best case scenario: 2000 individuals from a poor community watch the show, feel inspired, and decide they are going to get together and do the same. Let's say 600 kids and the rest adults. They are ready and pumped up to work, but they're from a poor community. Where do they get the materials? Materialize or steal them?

Wow. Interesting program. It's nice to see a program that really touches the lives of so many people and not simply creating celebrities. I can't help but wish this was a PBS program and not a commercial program, but as a commercial program, they're certainly able to get the money to do the work (and the sponsors to stand behind them).
