Book II does quite a job of recapping its predecessor with such great highlights! It is odd to watch both Falc's attack on Tom on the dock's without music and the scene in the hospital where the brothers say goodbye.
I saw this series when I was 12, in 1976. I`ve seen repeats since. But My TV Network never aired RMPM Book II. I`ve searched the world for it, and have now found Book II in a DVD Store in my town.
This is my mum's favorite mini-series. She watched it during the late 1980s and that's how I get my name Jordache from; while she was pregnant. Thanks mum!
When I saw this mini-series as a little girl, Peter Strauss stole my heart:) I don't think today's generation realizes how many good series/mini-series there were in the 70's. This was definitely one of my favorites:)
I remember watching this over twenty five years ago and with Nick Nolte really captured my attention. Then when William Smith showed up on the scene. It brought this mini-series to a higher level...4 stars...
when Falconetti gets carried off the ship after the fight with Tom his left eye is bandaged but for the rest of the series it's the right eye that he has the patch over.
memories of my childhood. yup, i agree, this was one series that i made a point not to miss. this ran on a local tv station together with "little house on the prairie"....haha!
During the fight with Falconetti, Tom destroyed his left eye. However, he wears a patch on the right eye. How did they screw that up? Was there no continuity person? Still a great miniseries.
they never outdid this series, ever and yet it remains relatively unknown to most people. They should have reruns of the entire series, books 1 and 2 every year. In fact, every WEEK
@expanding indeed the only time i saw it after it's mid 70's debut was on a french channel no d.v.d. version either with this great ensemble and the shaw novel itself
why is'nt this available for other viewers a generation now since its debut to enjoy edward asner was also out standing as the father by the way instead we get rich bride poor bride more tv reality garbage the insulting thing now is were paying to see this garbage instead of this seventies classic.
off this series. He was Probably the MOST Loved "Heavy" in Film/TV history.
He had MORE impact than ANY of the series leads, who were great...But how LUCKY we were, that MR Smith got on this project. he was SO popular,at that period, that he was a contestant on "The Hollywood squares"...amazing. Please ANYONE post ANYTHING with William Smith.
ha....and i wondered if anyone else liked this show as much as me!a...was long time ago....gave me a good feeling to read all the comments....

kleinkoerkampben 11 months ago
@kleinkoerkampben Tom (Nick Nolte) beat him up when they were in the Merchant Marines together. Falconetti was a bully and beat up Tom's friend.

This is my all time favourite TV series. Peter Strauss was great Nick Nolte was even greater, and William Smith was outstanding as Falconetti.
There were also Van Johnson, Lawrence Pressman, Ray Milland, Fionula Flanaghan, Norman Fell, Linda Day George, Robert Reed, Mike Evans...
I wish I could watch it again some day.
