  • It's a Sri Lanka song and Surangani is a girl name.

  • NICE SONG

    romba naala search 4 it

    thanks

  • but A.V.Manokaran sang it in Sinhala language.

  • Origine is from a Sri Lankan Tamil Pop singer A.V.Manoharan. then they remaked it for their movie

  • surangani is thename of a sri-lankan woman, and suranganita mallu genava means we brought fish to surangani, mallu means fish and genava comes the verb geenda wich means bring!

  • surangani means the name of a fish..

"suranganika malu genava" means.. i have surangani fish here..

This song is originally from sri lanka(sinhale). The song is from the fishers where they used to sing so called "byla songs" to stay active while they are working. later on the song got adapted by remixers and came out as a proper "byla song"

  • mama suranganiita maalu genawa

    classic beat

  • What does "Surangani" means?

  • Surangani means in tamil Devadai... in english angel....

  • The meaning of surangani is in itself. (Sura - shark: kanni: woman). Surangani means mermaid. The song started of as an old tamil folklore originating in North Sri Lankan coast where there are tamils and who make their living by fishing.

  • Hey dude..... This is originated from Sinhalese Song.... Then its remade in Tamil too... This is an example how Sri Lankans were early days too.... Now they say Sinhalese and Tamils have problems, This a good example that we didn't had problems.... Only LTTE had problems.......

  • Dear Friend, let us not discuss the ethnic issue here.

This song is sinhaleese song. Origin is Srilanka. No doubt about that. In the movie.. it comes as a stage performance. Different schools of music sings different songs on stage. I cut this bit and posted because of the good music of it. I have also posted another music bit from the movie..which is part of the same stage program.

Thanks for the comment. This is my favourite song too.

  • yea had no problems until your government introduced the sinhala act, tried marginalising us and starting riots against us

  • I agree,,,100,000 pecent

  • I'm an Indian, and also an ardent Ilayaraja fan. However, to be fair -- this is a SriLankan song that Ilayaraja relied heavily on for inspiration. Let's give credit where it's due.. :-)

  • This was a popular song among students in Tamil Nadu. They sing this during college tours with new Tamil words introduced into the same tune. Some are aware it's origin is Sri Lanka, others are not. Ilayaraja need not go to the Sri Lankan source to get it's tune since it was a well known song in his place itself.

  • Or it is possible that song became popular after it was sung in this movie which seems to be very old by now. I don't know which one came first since I am NOT THAT OLD. :-)

  • This movie came around 1978-79. Not sure about the exact year.

  • Prabakaran is a our unelected -president he can kill how ever ..Can you tell which president hiding in jangle for his crime? bloody mahinda president his 1st bro minister 2nd bro defence minister(not true) ,son navy commander(not true) ,but do u know where were before how did they coe to rich position?illegal? no. how his son got a great position in navy? did he go to any sea war? at least di he see LTTE members in sea running? just kill others to getting position ..kill rival-tamils family

  • Emotions need action in different manner.I do understand ur emotion but this is not the time to show.Just remember "ALL UNDER HEAVEN".

  • This battle has reached its bitter end," the Tigers' chief of international relations, Selvarasa Pathmanathan, said in a statement carried on the pro-rebel Tamilnet website.

"We remain with one last choice -- to remove the last weak excuse of the enemy for killing our people. We have decided to silence our guns.

"Our only regrets are for the lives lost and that we could not hold out for longer."

  • This is great !! There's a Sri Lankan sinhala song starts with "Surangani ta malu genawa... malu malu malu me dan genapu malu... surangani ta malu genawa..."... That one too really old.. which one is the original?

  • Hirantha, the original was sung by Sri Lankan A.E Manoharan, with the lyrics more or less the same as in this one.But the original one was around 5-6 minutes long.

I am not sure which one came next, this one or the Sinhalese version.

It is surprising to see no one acknowledging the fact that the song originated from SL.

  • Hi Thasaa,

Sorry for the late reply. The Original is from Srilanka.

  • Hi Friend, It is actually the Sinhaleese song only. It was adapted in tamil movie later. Sinhaleese version of Surangani is the Original.

  • Excellent !! Thanks for sharing.

  • A classic..!!

  • I think it's Tamil ..an Indian song.

  • It's a Sri Lankan folk song (the first couple of verses is quite literally Sinhalese). But it was adapted in Tamil in this movie.

  • correct. It is Srilankan Origin adapted in Tamil movies.

  • It is not Tamil. It is from Sinhalese song.

  • why the subtitle is in 'bahasa Malaysia'?

oh may be the male singer Vasudevan is originally from Malaysia!!! ahahahha hahahah ahahha :)

evergreen bit. Thank you for posting.
