When i was a kid i was really into theology & history but not a practicing catholic. Because of my profound disdain for major organised religions for what they have done in the name of God.
At one point i hated God for the evil he unleashed on our world.
Then one day i stop believing in this entity becuz after doing research into my belief system which is my own: the beauty of life & existence, our role as guardians the next Gods. I found out i was Gnostic, i believe in humanity, God within.

no one will ever know if there is no GOD because we cant see spirits,UNTIL THE END,I guess we shall see,you guys better hope he isnt real,I think he is though
There may well be a god, but without verifiable evidence there is no way to tell the true religion from the fake ones, Perhaps Scientology has it right?
If it all comes down to "just be nice to each other", then even a non-believer can get into heaven (assuming god IS just).
@askegg i know, long time...but i recently had another awakening about the bible, nowhere, in a properly translated one, does it mention going to hell. what it says, is that if your body is destroyed in fire, your soul is destroyed(yah, that's silly too), and there's only a heaven. if there is an afterlife, in some form, we definitely won't go to christian hell for not believing, cause the bible is mute on that particular place. it's rib a christian day :P
@felderup That's my understanding too. It's only until the Calvinists came along with their fire and brimstone version of the NT that the idea of eternal torture raised its ugly head.
"you guys better hope he isn't real,I think he is though"
I meant (think ?? he is real) I thought from a belivers point of view he/she IS real.
I did not mean to imply that you don't think as from your comments you definitely do. I did think god existed once, and to say 100% that agod does not exist would be plain arrogant, but then there is the churches arrogent belief that was to forcefull to take any of it serious anymore.
I can't say there was a sudden "moment" when I realized the supernatural was a mere illusion. I think somewhere in my unconscious mind I realized it and then gradually came to a conscious awareness and acceptance that I no longer believed in God.
Very good story - I've been an atheist since I was 4, which makes your achievement extremely impressive. Only reason can cure the ills of this world. The time for religion, with all its hatred, bigotry and fake science is over.
I peeked through my fingers to prove the existence of Santa Claus.
I was told he was true and he wasn't. It was just my parents. I hated them for 2 minutes then played with my presents while they were asleep. Best Xmas ever! (They were terrific presents - a punchball and boxing gloves was my favourite)
"PS. The new version of iMovie is easier to use and for publishing to YT, but the audio handling is awful - no nice fades :( Maybe I should read the manual?"
NO, READ THE BIBLE. lol, I think that somewhere in Genesis it explains how to use the latest iMovie.
I think that all of your videos are great. It is reassuring to know that people can wake up and seek the truth for themselves...however I am still frightened by the inevitable growing up of all the little american children at jesus camp. They are rallying troops and will no doubt be violent, vigilant fighters. We must stand together! Your videos help start the union of 'believers'. Believers of the TRUTH that is:)
Wow, it's been three weeks since you posted this vid and no comments about how we're all going to burn in hell? Maybe there IS hope after all! Skegg, welcome to the human race! The world looks so much better when you see it though clear eyes, doesn't it? Even when you're faced with the ugly parts, at least it makes more SENSE. Congrats and hugs. -Suz
I've seen part 1 so far, and he gets off to a good start, arguing for a reason-based worldview over superstition in general. There are a lot of sleazy con-men on display, but they're nicely balanced by an appearence from Derren Brown. Certainly worth watching.
The God Delusion and The End of Faith, though, have also a lot to persuade me of a more militant style of atheism - or anti-theism, as C. Hitchens would put it. Still haven't read God is not Great yet, but it will probably be the next book I buy... Have you seen Dawkins's new doc, The Enemies of Reason, yet, btw?

Dawkins didn't deconvert me from my vague belief in Christianity into outright atheism, but his argumnts (and those he mentions of Bertrand Russell) helped me to put agnosticism into context. I realized the intellectual grounds for impartial 50/50 agnosticism are not firm, and religion is too much of an evil in the world to defend it on that basis.
I need to do mine too. But I have been procrastinating on that. A few reasons is that I want to have my records removed completely from the church prior to making any statements which could be classed as apostate and have the grounds of excommunication. I want my status as resigned - it will be better when confronting people of my old faith to except the reality of my deconversion. It's been over 4 months and they haven't done it yet.
Channel 4 Saved My Soul - "Root of All Evil?" and Derren Brown both shown on 4 made the house of cards (faith) crumble to the ground! Atheism is Good. com :)
I posted a comment but I think my wifi connection dropped. I was basically saying about this dude blunty3000 talking about iMove 08 and how apple allow you to have iMovie 06 installed to use the best bits of both. The title of the movie is more offensive than it's contents!
It is easier, but with ease comes compromise and removal of features. I have FCP and it is VERY powerful. Started playing with Motion 3 last week - wow.
I think I will continue to use iMovie08 for these types of video, but my more serious ones (as alluded to in this video) will be done on FCP.
awesome story. Thanks for sharing. Would you be interested in posting this as a video response to my "Post your deconversion stories here" video? I've collected 62 such stories so far.
The expression 'Sky Pixie', even though I was an Atheist when I first read it, I chuckled too. But it is lovely to bring into a conversation, like 'which partcular Sky Pixie do you believe in then?' Throws them every time!
Hmm, fascinating, I think my moment was when my Grandmother died, I don't know why, but her being an atheist all her life and then dying lead me to think that anyone can die no matter religion, god doesn't keep people who love him alive and doesn't kill others before there time .. why believe in him .. the doubt lead very rapidly to a .. don't want to believe in fiction type feeling.
A part of me came to the same realisation when my grandfather died (the minister). It was suddenly clear that even a man who worshipped god all his life would still die. While there is some comfort in the thought that he lives on forever in someway, I just could not bring myself to really believe it - there was just no evidence of it, just a dead body.
Hmm, very interesting. It's always good to learn how people come to sense. ;p
About the new version of iMovie, the audio seems to be a little muffled in this video. Is that related to iMovie, or the audio equipment you used to record this video?
nice story. I considered myself an agnostic ever since I was 13 or so. (moderate laid back christian family)
Like you I always thought about it, but I never really looked at the arguments either way to see how they stack up. About a year and a half ago i started looking and reading. 3 months later it was very easy for me to call myself an athiest;)
Hmm, I also entertained pantheism and other religions before my self proclaimed atheism... Actually I kinda need your advice on something and I'm going to send you a PM if you don't mind. >.<
Interesting story, dude. It goes to show that theists can be persuaded with sound reasoning, given that they themselves are reasonable.
