  • **Important note for rolling on your back: make sure your back is flat, so raise your lower back using your ab muscles. DO NOT roll on your lower back because it can cause injury. You should only be rolling from your shoulder blades to the bottom of your rib cage. For all rolling, it is better to roll slow and pay special attention to tight spots. If you find a tight spot, stay on that spot and apply pressure for a few seconds. Breathe and continue rolling once the spot has loosened. :)

  • These are good exercises, but should be done much slower than shown in the video.

    Slowly roll the entire length of each muscle group along the foam roller, pausing on the areas that feel tight. This ensures that the entire length of fascia receives equal blood flow, and that no tight areas remain.

    Repeat each exercise 8-12 times. If you are particularly tight or injured, do these exercises a few times each day. With regular use, you should see lasting improvement.

  • The IT band stretch is a killer. I must have the tightest knees (?) in the world because I'm tellin' ya, that stretch fucking hurts! It's like somebody's clubbing my thigh with a hammer.

  • I seem to have been born with pathologically short hamstrings. I've never had any flexibility, even when I was younger. And no effort to stetch them has worked. Now I'm having tendon pain where the hamstrings insert just below the knee on the back side of the lower leg. Standing up, I can't even bend forward to reach my knees. It's getting so I can't even lie flat on my back. I'm 64 and otherwise healthy and fit. But I'm afraid I'm going to end up in a wheel chair. Maybe this video will help.

  • stupid and ill executed....the strain on the shoulder girdle / rotator cuff while performing these rolls is so anatomically contra indicated. Personal instructors - educate yourself in kinesiology - get it right. Better yet - gym participants...start educating yourselfs, there is far too much incompetence, misinformation and fad with training and trainers.

  • Yes, slow down. The video is only to show the exercises. Watch the exercise, stop the video and then do it slower. Also, when rolling on the back, keep away from the area below the ribs and above the hips. The kidneys are in there and some people's kidneys are very close to the surface, and you don't want to damage them!!

  • Good video but, you need to slow down the rolling. Get into the positions and roll slowly and sometimes stopping where the pain is; especially the IT Band. You should also make a video for people on how to roll their lats, bicep tendon, triceps and pectoralis minor. Also, the glutes are one of the best areas to hit which was not in the video.

    Pain is good. If the pain is WAY too intense, get a less dense foam roll.

  • A tennis ball is a rediculous notion. Not dense enough and it will flatten out. You also cannot get into the properposition on a tennis ball to hit each muscle in the glutes. Please take a course...

  • wow of the hundreds of clients i deal with week on week its worked wonders for them especially on the piriformis muscle which gets particularly tight. I have never worked with any client that was over tight in all the muscles in the glutes.

  • You do not have to use this just because muscles are "tight". Use it everyday for stretching/relaxation and to increase flexibility. I am not going to get in an argument with you and start to throw out who has which credentials.degrees/number of clients. Take a course...

  • You want it to be pretty firm.  If it was soft and more comfortable it would be like rolling your body over a pillow. Thats not going to release any tension, so you want it to be nice and strong so that it really massages the muscle tissue.

  • Yes. It is supposed to be hard. It is safe if you don't roll over areas that are not muscle. Keep away from knees, kidneys, etc. They are very helpful when used right. I would suggest asking someone who works at your gym to watch you using it and make sure you are using it correctly.

  • Very informative and helpful video. Only comment would be (if possible) to remove the background music as in some places it is hard to hear your instruction. I like that there are two of you demonstrating as well as having the mirrors in the background. It's helpful for folks alike me (am a swimmer/cyclist but compete in triathlons - 2:45 speaks to the IT-band issue I have).

    I completey agree. I reccommend the foam roller to all of my clients too, but a foam roller will not be any where near as thorough as a deep tissue massage treatment. Especially as we induce techniques such as METs, STRs and DTFs. Yes a foam roller will only cost £20, (or a few more daaaaalers if you're US) but I can 100% guarantee to you that a 30 minute sports massage will see far better benefits and results than the foam roller. plus, we get into sub scap, mid traps...FR doesnt!

    Please address us as Licensed Massage Therapists, not a masseuse. Foam rollers are great, and I recommend them to my clients as well as getting personal training sessions. Foam rollers will not get into the insertions and origins of the muscles and can't invoke dozens of different techniques in which we were trained. We are worth every penny as I'm sure you feel the same way about your service.

  • To put emphasis on one quad, I'm not sure leaning to one side is the best idea. The problem with this, is it's not just going to shift it to one leg, but it's going to shift the part of the leg being touched. It'll be more lateral quad and abductors and stuff that way. I'd raise the other leg on top just like with the hamstring movement. Then, it would be neutral, and you could still lean from side to side to hit the medial or lateral quad.

    Might be a good workout for the obliques too! Hottie
