This made me ugly cry!! Congrats from one Texan to another!! You two are truly trail blazer and trust me your fight is not in vain it will make is so much easier for younger generations...Like it was for me when my husband and I who happens to be black got married!! This isnt a gay rights issues its civil rights!
I love this, its so touching and loving. Such an appropriate song choice too. I love the fact that gay marriage is now legal where i live, and in most of America, it's just a great shame that some places haven't opened their eyes or minds yet
What a beautiful video! Good for you guys, I hope you will get all the benefits of a legal marriage in your home town. I'm sure you will hit walls sometime, but this video shows your determination in getting what you deserve: Equality!
saw the video on Yahoo! today, thought it was bogus that they don't consider you guys to be legally married when you did everything right!! pissed me off. they're just pissed you guys are smart and found a loophole. anyway congratulations, good luck on the actual D.C. wedding and hope life is great for you two. <3
My husband and I have been married for fifteen years (together for 17+) and it keeps getting better -- but we still can't file a joint tax return, although we're totally legally married in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We have had to get married a few times to get our status increasingly legal. See MarkandVinny (dot) com (slash) Marriages
@MartijnCalkhoven um actually the gay percentage of Dallas' total population is one of the highest in the US as compared to other major cities. Tons of us in Houston and Austin too. So yeah we will "take that" and happily.
@MartijnCalkhoven oh I totally agree. the only thing more ridiculous is our governor Rick Perry's poofy 80s porn-hair. that's some weird shit right there.
Good for you guys!! I hope you will have many more happy years together (and that the rest of America wakes up to the fact than anti-same sex marriage laws are non-Constitutional!).
Congrats you guys (from Canada!)-- you're a handsome couple. Equal rights are enjoyed by too few and I congratulate you on your creative use of technology to publically declare your love and stage a potent protest. Cheers.
I am so proud of Mark and Dante. This is fantastic. Love is just love. It's time for homophobes to listen to facts and educate themselves. My friends deserve the same rights as straight people.
I'm an Ordained Reverend and I am available to conduct same-sex marriages in California and anywhere (via skype), so that more couples can legally marry!
I'm Dutch, living in Holland and married to an American lady myself. We got married here and it is since recognized in her state of NY but we need all of our marriages recognized and all American citizens treated equal under the federal constitution. DOMA needs to go.
I have a question about the legal nuances...Was it legally necessary to have a DC-based officiant present for the exchange of vows? Or was their marriage "official" upon getting the marriage certificate when they first traveled to DC?
In other words, is the ceremony a friends-and-family-celebration of the already-completed legal marriage, or is there something more in the ceremony that has to be completed by a DC official?
@JulieVlogs -Hi, I was at the wedding. The actual legal ceremony was conducted via Skype. The marriage is not official until the certificate is signed by the officiant and returned to the DC office. Just like any other wedding. You have to turn in the paperwork with proof that a legal officiant conducted the ceremony.
I'm thankful for living in a country that allows gay marriage (actually the first country in the world to allow it!) but I feel a great deal of anger towards intolerant americans who are against gay marriage. Who has the right to legislate against certain people's rights?? An who in their right mind justifies discrimination by being against gays getting married?!
Genius!!! We also got married in Texas, because it was so important to us to have all our friends and family there, but gave up official status as a married couple in making that choice. We never thought of this approach, so smart. Congrats, guys, and thank you for pushing us forward!
Congratulations from Australia guys, what a fantastic way around archaic laws, you should both be proud! I could only begin to imagine what it must be like for a gay couple by imagining how filled with despair I would have been had my Japanese wife's father not given us permission! Religious ideologies need to stay out of politics.
Well done and may your marriage be a long and happy one :)
This is awesome. I am amazed at how far we have come with equality ... I mean gays are becoming very accepted in society, especially America .. I remember in the 1980's, gays were made fun of and called horrible names all the time, and now, in 2010, you see them everywhere holdings hands and kissing in public ... I support everyone and everyone else should do the same.
I'm not that emotional usually but I teared up here. This is awesome. Best of luck to these two, and to gays across the country. A legal marriage doesn't have to conflict with religious beliefs. These people just want the legal rights accorded to two people who love each other. I really can't figure out why people are so opposed to this.
@lostproput I'm not confused, never once have I been confused about my sexuality, and since confusions implies, I not understanding something or stuff contradicts with something else, of which I'm not confused, and no ones sexuality can't be changed, at heart, you can make a person lie to themselves, and present a false version of themselves, but you can and will never change them.
Oh Happy Day. What a creative way to get married legally in your home state. I encourage everyone to speak out. Let everyone know America needs equality for ALL Americans.
i love this... i am so happy for y'all... I am from texas and so is my boyfriend and i hope by the time we have reached a great time together california texas and every state will recognize our union
