A- poi B- poi C- glowstringing D - Glowstringing E. poi F- poi G -poi H - glowstringing I . gowstringing J - glowstringing K - poi L - glowstringing M - poi N - glowstringing O - poi
@Daavisonfire actually not the glowsticking has its own unique style which contains wraps manipulations and other stuff but poi is more spinning stalls flowers and others, tho glowsticking comes originally from poi it has a lot of things poi doesnt the same as glowsticking doesnt have a lot of things poi has so they are 2 different things and styles
I: large falcon into medium falcon into some glow stringing move I'm unfamiliar with then some drop catches ending in a large falcon, I would only see this set as glow stringing.
J: falcon combinations
K: Refer to A
L: wrist wraps, single and double, then end with air wrap or the beginning of one.
The rest are like previous but with two headed poi.
and in different combos is just doing patterns using the previously mentioned move, you do both single hand and double hand wraps. This would be more towards glow stringing
D: Same moves involved as C just in a different combination. Glow stringing as well.
E and F are both forward three beat weave.
G: forward butterfly weave into double inward stall, the different poi are irrelevant in my opinion.
H: already covered just a different combination from C and D except the end I have always called
A: In my opinion it's poi and it's starts split time butterfly then you do down stalls on both sides bringing you finally to the reverse thread the needle.
B: once again i feel this is a poi move however most of these moves you show are universal to all stringed flow styles, this starts as forward butterfly same time then the same stall concept as A and you and up split time reverse.
C: I have always heard of them as quick wraps or shotgun wraps the fact you do them in different places
IMO, stringing is glowsticks only.. As soon as you add non-glowstick objects then it becomes a different tool and falls into the generalized category of Object manipulation - Which both stringing and poi fall into. People should Just think in terms of concepts instead of trying to worry about where it came from. EX: Weaves, catching manipulations, wraps.
The most important difference between poi/glowsticking is not the tools or moves but their cultures.
i've never really cared that much what i call it. if people understand what i'm doing and what i'm talking about then what's the problem? so for me its a matter of considering who i'm talking to, and whether they give a shit or not like me.
i don't take tests anymore, feel free to give me the answers if you'd like. i watched it tho and saw some interesting stuff. kinda laughed with the poi manipulation but at the same time went hmmm naa movin on
you're spinning! poi or glow sticking/stringing are just the name of the tool you're using. It's all the same physics. although everyone else's responses are insightful too. =D
I say you're having a blast doing something you love... I think Shakespeare put it best when he wrote "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
I & J were the only ones that I would say are strictly glowsticking, everything else is opinion,,
ex. a poiist picks up some glowsticks and goes to town, he is doing poi
if a glowsticker is using socks he is glowsticking.
i call things poi moves when I'm glowsticking, just as a category.
but honestly, who cares? as long as you get your point across whats it matter the term?? which is exactly why I don't approve of the term aerials, its an un-needed synonym, and just creates confusion.
true glowsticking takes more of its core from yo-yoing, while poi is more fluid and tends to look for transitions or points of similarity between moves
Its all poi imo, to me glowsticking would be an offset of poi, wraps are perfectly fine with firepoi (to a certain extent of course), i would say the string manipulation stuff lends itself to glowsticking more though
In my opinion, all examples are poi. I mean in most cases glowstringing takes most of its moves or uses poi as a basis only to expand upon. Also, you can't really do wraps with poi I mean i'm sure you can with proper armor but still glowstringing is just more varied since you get more colors and can use more sticks. Also, your not restricted by the fire and other variables. Well thats my take on it.
@xSynergy69 - you're making the assumption of fire being a requirement, not all poi involves fire therefore you CAN do wraps with poi, just not fire poi

thumb catches or toggles.

i agree with splinterific and xSynergy69.
Its all poi =D
poloik007 1 year ago
They're all manipulations of inertia, momentum, etc.
If you are using a glowstick, you are glowsticking.
Poi styles, to me, still defines moves characterized by free-moving spins, whereas glowsticking style is related to wraps, manipulations, etc.
