I 'd agree this is a GREAT track from a great band.. what makes it so unique was
how L42 could be SO damn funky , and melodic, all at the same time- with brilliant production as well. This was a phenomenal album- not a duff track to be found-
incredibly consistent, top to bottom, yet a lot of variety in the tunes.
I used to work in that factory for a while making lampshades- sure wish Mark worked there too how great would that have been- i'd never have had a day off sick:)
And the white van was Mark's too but don't think he has it now.
JANGO must be the worst football plyer on the planet ,! suppose he makes up 4 it in the holdsworth department store . great vox he's got though . i think they wrote this tune when mk was writing with rick astley , surely he;s got enough $ not to have to do that ? sorry rick astley was ,is and always will be lame .FACT . level my all time fav band ,without doubt.
ok when mark is in the car with the girl and he shoves her head down is he trying to hide her or "something else"?? one has to wonder! great song and great video :)
Classic taking the piss out of spending a few million on a video. NIce work boys...seriously,...it's hilariously Spinal Tap that Mark and the boys got to make a video this way...or maybe they had nothing to do with it. Still, great tune...hilariously bad video. I almost thought Mark was going to walk out of work with the older ladies!
How ironic that in your profile you say that you have been playing the bass 'Professionally' since you was aged 12 yet you make a crazy comment about Level 42's music sounding like porno music... All that proves is that you must have watched a hell of a lot of porn, therefore you are a wanker...! Level 42 are 1 of the greatest bands ever. Mark King is unbelievable but you would'nt know as you are too busy watching porn mr bass player !!!
When I first bought the Guaranteed album and played this track I thought "dud". Hearing it now I can understand the point
The video is amusing but it's really meant as a way for hard working people to express the frustration they feel at the effect working necessarily long hours has on their relationships. That's quite a touchingly sincere heartache to express. Hats off to Level 42 for observation.
Does anyone know who the older lady on the right in the last part of the video where Mark King looks at them and his girl is walking out towards the street? She looks very familiar. Great song, great group.
Proof that musicians are hopeless at football 02:16 haha...Manchester United are keeping their eye on u jakko !!!
1 of the best bands in the world in my opinion, been around for ages , adam + eve used to listen to em ! They are still touring and every live performance i see just gets better and better...Cant wait to see em in october now mike lindup is back..
Yup...I wish they would tour here in the states again. There is a whole generation here that has no idea who they are. They should have the opportunity to see what real musicians are like.
This was an elegant song, and the entire album was yards above what most of was coming out of Stateside pop/rock/R&B in 1991-92.
Sound-wise, it was also very much Gary Husband's album as much as Mark's (dig the drum sound and the songwriting on the album, partly Gary's).
I suppose some purists will never accept Gary as Phil's replacement. I'm very much a Gould fan and prefer him, but the drive Gary brought to the album and brings to their live sound is remarkable. He too is outstanding.
i love this band soooo much ... they are so funky its untrue... watched em live loads of times..had a 45 minit chat with gary husband after the gig at lowrie centre manchester...he would,nt go away lol...luv em to bits!
Ha ha ha....never seen that one before, Level 42 should have made more videos like this, they are actually not that bad actors....Mark King can be such a punk kid if he wants to LOL....great post thx =)
This band was not credited enough for their fantastic lyrics and muscal abilities. I wonder did they ever travel to America and how were they received?
i saw them in the late 80's in spokane washington....they were fabulous...and the crowd couldn't get enough...they were truly..and still are ahead of their time.
In total agreement there about them being ahead of their time. And from what I'm hearing on the grapevine they have regrouped and are touring and that they even plan to go to America or are already there. Whatever the plan is, I intend to go and see them live when I get the chance because from I have seen they have not lost their touch and are still going strong, not many artists today have that kind of staying power.
i heard the same thing..and i will definitely see them the next chance i get if they get here to the u.s...and when i get over to england..i will look them up to see if they are performing. if i hear anything on them coming to american...i'll let you know.
Correct - Jakko joined for the tour, and appears on the album cover, but Allan's on the album.
The story I heard was that the band thought Allan wouldn't want to tour etc., because he already had a successful career in the fusion area, but he actually was interested.
I saw Level 42 in Peterborough; had ticked #1 for the After-Show party - and met all the guys and got my programme autographed. Memories, memories, Mr King ... you were always my hero, and still are....
actually the late Alan Murphy eventually came after Boon .. but he was the one that passed away from AIDS.. Jacko Jazyc is the one in the video and he came a bit after Alans passing .. Jacko is still alive and well and still making music :) ..
Listening to this song I can't for the life of me figure out why some hardcore fans diss Guaranteed. Oh man! I just noticed Gary in the jumpsuit. Very early Phil Gould!! I wonder if it was intentional...
I also like videos with a story, Mark looks great.......too bad Mark didnt get the girl, or is it? (I'm available.. lol, no really I am ;-)......great group, always a favorite of mine.
Hey Pedros, thanks for posting. The girl is my sister Sophie (I see my mum posted as well(Cigar5)). Great to see this again, cool times and life seemed a litle simpler in those days :) Cheers, Skiiiiiiiiiiii
The guys are hilarious in this video. Mike...lol. I wish Jakko was a "Permanent" member, but I guess those days are long gone. Thanks for posting this!
I remember them shooting this video at a disused warehouse near Wandsworth as I used to live round the corner from it. Today the warehouse which is located on Merton Road is a branch of Access storage.
Thanks for sharing, have seen this video a couple of times many years ago but not had it in my collection.
Have been a big Level 42 fan for over 20 years, saw them recently at Croydon, fantastic show as usual, was in the front row and at the end Mark handed me one of Gary's drumsticks.Mark King is just the best ever !!
I have been a fan since the very beginning and yet I had never seen this vid! It is truly fabulous.Yes it is Jakko on this one.The album this is from is superb and my favourite! Seen them 25 tmes or more and seeing them another three times very soon.Tour and album soon! Cannot wait.Even my children want to see them! thankyou so much for sharing your video!! Laura
Allan does play a few power chords on "Guaranteed", but I don't think he plays on this one. The album credits don't give specifics. The guitarist in the videos is called Jakko I think.
