Actually CRTs are useful because they don't have fixed resolutions and don't scale images. That alone makes them useful for older pre-HD media and most game consoles. They also don't suffer from the many problems that LCDs STILL suffer today. Not only that there have been MANY CRTs (such as the Trinitron G520 I'm using) that do ridiculous resolutions and have higher picture quality and instant response times than ANY other display type.
Hi! I think your instruction videos are great! Thank You For Helping. I did e mail you about my 1967 Motorola 23ts and other tv search--PLEASE RESPOND SOON, HAVE A GREAT NEW YEARS---GOD BLESS! EBC
I really enjoy watching you at work. I used to haul these old things out of the trash as a kid and tinker with them. Ma wasn't too impressed, and I kept at it til one day Dad decided to teach me to respect electricity.
He took a car battery, hooked up jumper cables, and asked stupid to hold the unhooked up cable tongs for him.
After one jolt to the system, I was cured forever for tampering with tube tv's whilst plugged into the wall.
Thanks for sharing this information. There used to be CRT rebuild company in Indianapolis by the name of Silver Glo. I purchased a replacement tube from them for the 1954 Crosley I watched as a child. The TV is still at my dad's home alog with the PhotoFact folder. I will have some trouble from my wife if I try to bring it home. :)
I used to work on those TV sets. Wonderful times. My friend collects and repairs them, so I'll be sure to tell him to see the videos. Beltron is your friend.
At first, I figured you were some punk smartass kid. I come to find out you're a 57 year old man. Kind of embarrassing how immature you are. You're comments are a total insult to my intellegence.

I'm sorry for making fun of your TV set. I was just having fun. I read your CV--I misunderstood what you were trying to do!! The Zenith was indeed an OK set. I do however believe that the Germans developped a lot of high tech electronics that the Americans copied and got credit for. I had a Telefunken colur set that pulled circles around all of them, uncluding the Japs. Today I have an RCA--LCD 32", I doubt that ot's American made! Works OK. My girlfriend has a Sony. Both are OK!

In the 60's I hauled loads of them (Zenith, RCA, etc.) to the TV shop when I was in High School. We started getting reliable TVs when the Japs, (Sony, Panasonic etc.) started building them. As for shooting the tubes out for fun, if the TVs had been any good, they would have been in a a living room, not in the rural dump.
That's not an insult to your intelligence, however it may be an insult to American technology!!
I don't think it was so much who made the TV as it was how the technology improved. Components like capacitors and resistors got better, circuits got simpler, etc. There came a point when I think that TVs really reached their peak in terms of reliability. Amongst others, I have a '79 Sony and an '83 Zenith table TV. Both work as well as they did when they were made. They've needed nothing more than cleaning.
I don't know that modern TVs will last as long as the older ones have...
Call me crazy, but CRT is a more reliable technology than Plasma and LCD for most applications, ESPECIALLY pre-HD era video games. CRT monitors that happen to have a res of 1600 X 1200 or higher are much sought after by Quake players due to their reliability and accurate color reproduction not to mention zero lag or motion blur. The ONLY downfall of CRT is size and weight, but realistically how often due you move your monitors?
Tube TV so it's worth it. Now if it was a solid state maybe not so much...

I have something to say and something to ask.
OK: first of all, people like you should open a TV repair shop! If I had a broken CRT like this, I would pay to have it fixed.
The second thing is why does it seem like you are recording a TV playing these videos?

Throw it in the dump and buy a new Sony!
If you like in a rural area, take it to the rural dump and shoot it up with a 223!! Loads of fun!
