The reason science, turned to UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) to distance from the ridiculous interpretation. Whenever somebody saw something (e.g. man made object, natural phenomena, etc.) he saw a UFO aka UAP. With sufficient data, a particular sighting can be explained - otherwise it remains unknown. Social position of the observer doesn't matter.
