  • I remember working in Downtown during this storm... it... was... insane!!!

  • I was driving in that storm and a tree fell on a car

  • I am thinking about renting a apartment or condo in Edmonton, is it safer to be in during a tornado or severe storm? I'm quite nervous about tornadoes, though I actually enjoy other storms.

  • @zena76 Most buildings are built to withstand high winds so, theoretically, being in a highrise would be safer. No guarantees, though! If a tornado hits your building, you'll want to be as close to the ground floor as possible and in the interior of the building (the hallway, for example).

  • @zena76 It was just a storm, Tornadoes are not even closed to common around here, your chances are better than pretty much anywhere else in the world.

  • @zena76 Edmonton gets really crazy storms every summer, i've lived here for 20 years, nothing bad has happened ever, except a tornado that killed 30 people in 1987...

  • isn't edmonton like in canada or something?

  • @Randoman35 Yes.

  • @Randoman35 dude where do u live man it is in canada

  • @2pacforever22 IM NOT TELLIN U WHERE I LIVE BRO

  • @Randoman35 no no i mean like obivisous it is in canada i dont wnna know where u live srry

  • i was atcapitalex whenthis happened at midnight!

  • Do I hear Anvil's "Wild Eyes" playing in the background?

  • That isn't a funnel forming people, it's just scud, moisture being pulled down from the cloud.

  • it looks like the funnel cloud was forming right above u

  • @tornadogirl10 there was a funnel, it could of formed, we got that storm in bonnyville.

  • Shouldnt you guys be in Shelter and not at a concert during a tornado warning?

  • @tornadogirl10 No, but meteorologists said it was as close as you can get to a tornado without one actually forming. It tore a huge path of destruction across Edmonton nevertheless.

  • i remember that SCARY

  • I remember that storm pretty bad....

  • by that, I mean the storm, NOT Capital Ex. I love Capital Ex :D

  • uhhhhhhhh..... momories :) can't wait for it to happen this year whoopie doo -.-

  • Night came early that day.

  • hey, my mom was driving me on a road and the sky was BLACK and a branch flew in front and my mom ran it over and we then headed to McDonalds near a Husky's and the Husky's sign was waving back and forth. That was pretty scary back then. But that was awesome.

  • Man, I can't get enough of this video!

  • most epic place for a battle

  • i love durin all this the band keeps going

  • This was taken on th day of my husbands b-day the cloud in this movie was over our house by 10:15. I noticed it and called him because he experinced the torodado in 87. he went to see if the neghbors upstairs from us were okay and a window from the house blew out and almost hit him

  • I was at capital Ex when this happened and i had my little cousin with me and my mother called my cell crying because she though we were going to die =P

  • I was a Capital Ex when this happened... But it was much worse over there. All you could see was BLACK ! Scared the crap out of me. Really thought it was gunna form a Tornado.

  • This on my birthday xD

  • that storm scared me soo much!

i started getting scared when it started to get really windy and my mom said. Lets go into the basement...

  • wow

  • Cumulonimnus Arcus cloud

  • Wow, I only got a taste of thunder, lightning, hail, and rain, nothing like that. Then again, I was probably on the opposite side of edmonton at the time.

I went camping the day after this storm.

  • i'd love to play with my band in that storm :D

  • My friend and I got stuck in this outside in a park in Old Strathcona area. we were playing frisbee and in less than a couple of minutes it was over us. We almost got crushed by flying tree limbs and the hail and the rain were intense... the winds were so strong we almost fell over from them... it was really scary but amazing too.

  • Sick man. That storm was so close to a tornado it's not even funny.

  • i remember the clouds were so low, from a distance u could see sunlight, its like a ufo hovered above all of edmonton. I too was hiding in my basement, that was a very odd and scary storm.

  • that is a sexy storm

  • this storm was scaryyyyy :o i was hiding in my basement with a helmet on XD

  • I thought the storm that hit 18 July 2010 was during Capital Ex, not Taste of Edmonton? Or were the two events held at the same time???

  • @ananeliel

The two events were happening at the same time.

  • @Whiteboyradioman dude it is 2010 and capital ex starts today

  • @1curtis3 I think the above commenter meant to say July 18, 2009. On THAT day, Capital Ex and Taste of Edmonton were happening at the same time.

  • luckly i was camping in jasper when this happend

  • That was completely scary i was sitting in my basement in the dark crying lol my mom was out of town and i was alone ><

  • Hmmm, it was a supercell and it helped spark and ocd/panic attack for me =)

  • Hello, nice capture!

  • i was at capitgal ex when this happened, and we were on a high ride when the sky started getting really dark, and there was a funnel cloud forming. then the rain and hail came and the police came and wouldnt let us leave the bui;ding untill one in the morning. best capital ex ever!! cant wait for this year ^^

  • IT WASNT NICEE........ I PASSED OUT.

  • I was sitting in my house when this happened. I looked out and it was frighteningly black. Then a minute later there was some blue. It freaked me out.

  • That was a horrible storm last year. I thought we were gonna have a tornado but yeah.

  • the weather reporters said the wind was as sttrong as an F2 tornado

  • the weather forecaster said that if the storm would of happened earlier in the day it would of been a severe tornado

  • good show boys looks very scary.

  • when i was watching that storm I was scared to DEATH!!

  • that cloud came so fast... i looked at the sky and it was coming and i was like " we should go now... " we were at capital ex and my sister didnt want to leave but like 5 minutes later it was over us and everyone was freaking out.... scary :O

  • that was the worst night of my life! i am so terrifyed of storms because of tornado's..i was a huge baby! lol and im not looking forward to this summers storms =(

  • Epic sky for a music festival! Would make a great album cover!

  • Aww I remember that day, half the sky was completely black, and the other half was blue. There were trees allover the place like I'd never seen before.

But this makes me hate winter. It's so boring, and I love these kind of storms.

  • @kendallbob Oh I know!! I was outside by this store by my house looking to the west and the sky was blue and purple! It was some freaky shit. This was probably one of the worst storms we've had in a while! This was only one of two bad storms last year too! We had another really bad wind storm in September that actually knocked down a tree in my backyard :( And after both of them there were trees and branches knocked down everywhere!

  • I was in Sherwood Park at that time. In the distance from Baseline you could see the clouds over Central Edmonton. It was like the clouds were swooping down to the ground. Man, it looked like it was going to swallow the city. And when it hit Sherwood Park the clouds were so orange. It became calm for a short while then it hailed then the winds came. We had some interesting weather last summer.

  • I was a Capital EX when this happened it was crazy the ferris wheel i was on was shaking thank god they got me off in time

  • man that looked like it was rotating so much i mean i saw a few wall clouds and funnels but it was right ontop of u so u could see the rotation perfectly

  • dude that storm was epic i love thunderstorms idk y i just do =D

  • that's a cool looking cloud

good thing I was out of town that night.

  • im from edmonton hellz yah but i never seen this yet

  • jesus...

  • I was there :( I got soo freaked out. On my way home trees were falling all over.

  • fuck that looks fukin scarey that would scare the shiit out of me if i was there!!

  • holy fuck i was there :@ scary shit neer my house the clouds were redish gold :@

  • In Edmonton, during the summer, it doesn't get completely dark until about 11PM. A benefit of being so far north. Of course, in the winter, it gets dark about 5PM. Crappy trade off but meh! What are ya gonna do?

  • That was at 10 PM? Looked pretty light out. Stormclouds looked like they were moving away

  • Was there a tornado?

  • Nope, no tornado. Officials say it was as close to a tornado as you can get but nothing was reported.

  • It was freaky how the cn building got recked a bit

  • correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't that the same storm that wrecked the stage at Camrose during the Big Valley Jamboree?

  • No, this happened July 18. The BVJ storm hit Aug 1.

  • @Whiteboyradioman Edmonton has wierd weather thats for sure lol. Hopefully this year it will behave :p

  • The lightning display was awesome. Still later I realized that sticking my head out the window was probably stupid. xD

  • i was at capital ex that day a huge sugn blew into my face i was crying and really scared

  • i was in calgary

  • I was at Capital Ex during this storm. So intense!!!!!!!

  • haha i was camping. storm hit me before hit cap ex. went to cap ex day after it was empty i was like WOOOOOOT

  • It was so nuts. I love watching storms but this one was way way to intense for me. Im just happy no one got killed. people outside during CapX. But we were due for another big one. This was the year I guess.

  • Sadly, I don't think this is the 'big one'. We're probably due for an even larger one than the one that hit back in '87.

  • ya but they said this was the worse since the tornado that happened 21 years ago here in edmonton

  • I WAS TERRIFIED like i was crying and screaming and stuff because i have been trew a tornado and i cant do it agian its just to scary soo now im scared of storms

  • holy crapoly. that one crazy video. the music was perfect. that orange glow at 1:22 ??? has any one told you you sound like seth rogan. i don't know i just watched funny people, maybe i'm crazy.

  • Seth Rogan? lol Nope, never heard that before. I'll take that as a compliment!

  • i wonder if the band knew what was going on behind them?

  • I think all they saw was the rain that poured almost immediately after I stopped recording. They commented on it while they were playing.

  • it's fitting the Stampeders were playing "Wild" Eyes, cuz those clouds looked scary wild!!

  • I thought the exact same thing. How fitting or what?

  • I loved how it was actually day time when that storm hit then it suddenly turned to night.

  • I would have filmed longer but it started to pour. My camera is FAR from waterproof so I had to get out of there. As for the 21st, I don't have any video. I tried to get some lightning shots but, again, I got caught out in the rain and had to abort!

  • Instead of aborting, one thing I do when I videotape thunderstorms is put the camera in a large transparent clear plastic bag.

  • Well, I'll certainly know better for next year's storm season. Like most people, I don't usually keep a supply of clear plastic bags in with my camera. Until now. :)

  • God, that storm scared me silly!!! T.T

  • The heritage festival got one too but not as bad as Capital ex's.

  • I got some great storm cloud photos of the storm that hit on Saturday at Heritage Festival. Sadly, no cool video of the storm forming. Big Valley Jamboree was the place to be for that.

  • Big Valley was even worse than Capital Ex as someone got crushed to death when the stage fell.

  • that was the wrong storm it was the second one the stage fell at the bg valley i was in both storms

  • damn , alot of bad storms this summer

  • Yea, that was a CRAZY storm, I had no power 'till the next day.

  • we just had a f0 tornado in tabernakle and it was from a squall line :O the tornado was at 6:15 and the f0 tornado almost damaged my house. thank god it didint becuase i have a pet fish. when i was in the basment i saw the tornado some trees fell i think. when we first had a tornado warning i yelled EVERYBODY IN THE BASMENT THERES A TORNADO and it was to late to stay in mah room. the tornado did not kill anybody. nobody was outside and at one part the tornado was 40 miles away from are house

  • i was running though the streets, as stuff was rolling around, i was rather happy that day :D

  • was there a tornado

  • No tornado but, man, it was a close call. I think it could have gone either way.

And it's answers like THAT that keep me from being a meteorologist. "It may rain today. But then again, it may not. Who knows?"

  • That was 2 seconds away from a tornado

  • That Shit was scary as hell. 2 boot I left my home in north west Edmonton only 2 hit the storm in the northeast lol But the second storm was prolly the eeriest that I ever seen EVER I couldn't keep my eyes off the storm!

  • This is seriously the best video I've seen of this storm so far. Those clouds were the eeriest thing I've seen in a LONG time.

  • my b-day

  • dude, @ 1:07 it looks like a demon face

  • Hmmm...it really does look like a demon's face. Someone call Art Bell or George Noory! :)

  • Very ominous clouds!! They were reddish black out in the west end and my neighbour's trees were snapped in half like matches! Did you see that giant slab of concrete get knocked off the CN tower by a massive straight line gust?

  • the music is so shit its bring it down

  • Well, the Stampeders were playing at the time so there wasn't much I could do about that. lol

  • damn what if a tornado came down..that woul;da ruined the day at capital ex even more

  • I was actually so surprised nothing did happen i thought we were going to get tornado warnings.

  • same here but it was a pretty awesome storm

  • power outage funnelclouds huge hail but it was more intens in sherwoodpark and fort saskatchewan

  • there wasnt funnelclouds in sherwood park..... in saksatchewan im not sure but there was none with 50 kilometres of edmonton at all.

  • what a storm fuck that one scared the crap out of me

  • awesome storm clouds.. thanks for posting!

  • wow i love my city haha

  • wow at 1:20 you can see a red lightning :)
