I am thinking about renting a apartment or condo in Edmonton, is it safer to be in during a tornado or severe storm? I'm quite nervous about tornadoes, though I actually enjoy other storms.
@zena76 Most buildings are built to withstand high winds so, theoretically, being in a highrise would be safer. No guarantees, though! If a tornado hits your building, you'll want to be as close to the ground floor as possible and in the interior of the building (the hallway, for example).
@zena76 It was just a storm, Tornadoes are not even closed to common around here, your chances are better than pretty much anywhere else in the world.
@zena76 Edmonton gets really crazy storms every summer, i've lived here for 20 years, nothing bad has happened ever, except a tornado that killed 30 people in 1987...
@tornadogirl10 No, but meteorologists said it was as close as you can get to a tornado without one actually forming. It tore a huge path of destruction across Edmonton nevertheless.
holly shit i rememeber that day that was so fucking crazy the weather. it felt like a hurricaine the way the rain, lots of wind, and hude loud thunder wow it was amazing! though thank god i wasnt stuck at kdays like my friends where the train station was flooded haha
hey, my mom was driving me on a road and the sky was BLACK and a branch flew in front and my mom ran it over and we then headed to McDonalds near a Husky's and the Husky's sign was waving back and forth. That was pretty scary back then. But that was awesome.
This was taken on th day of my husbands b-day the cloud in this movie was over our house by 10:15. I noticed it and called him because he experinced the torodado in 87. he went to see if the neghbors upstairs from us were okay and a window from the house blew out and almost hit him
I was at capital Ex when this happened and i had my little cousin with me and my mother called my cell crying because she though we were going to die =P
I was a Capital Ex when this happened... But it was much worse over there. All you could see was BLACK ! Scared the crap out of me. Really thought it was gunna form a Tornado.
Wow, I only got a taste of thunder, lightning, hail, and rain, nothing like that. Then again, I was probably on the opposite side of edmonton at the time.
My friend and I got stuck in this outside in a park in Old Strathcona area. we were playing frisbee and in less than a couple of minutes it was over us. We almost got crushed by flying tree limbs and the hail and the rain were intense... the winds were so strong we almost fell over from them... it was really scary but amazing too.
i remember the clouds were so low, from a distance u could see sunlight, its like a ufo hovered above all of edmonton. I too was hiding in my basement, that was a very odd and scary storm.
i was at capitgal ex when this happened, and we were on a high ride when the sky started getting really dark, and there was a funnel cloud forming. then the rain and hail came and the police came and wouldnt let us leave the bui;ding untill one in the morning. best capital ex ever!! cant wait for this year ^^
I was sitting in my house when this happened. I looked out and it was frighteningly black. Then a minute later there was some blue. It freaked me out.
that cloud came so fast... i looked at the sky and it was coming and i was like " we should go now... " we were at capital ex and my sister didnt want to leave but like 5 minutes later it was over us and everyone was freaking out.... scary :O
that was the worst night of my life! i am so terrifyed of storms because of tornado's..i was a huge baby! lol and im not looking forward to this summers storms =(
Aww I remember that day, half the sky was completely black, and the other half was blue. There were trees allover the place like I'd never seen before.
But this makes me hate winter. It's so boring, and I love these kind of storms.
@kendallbob Oh I know!! I was outside by this store by my house looking to the west and the sky was blue and purple! It was some freaky shit. This was probably one of the worst storms we've had in a while! This was only one of two bad storms last year too! We had another really bad wind storm in September that actually knocked down a tree in my backyard :( And after both of them there were trees and branches knocked down everywhere!
I was in Sherwood Park at that time. In the distance from Baseline you could see the clouds over Central Edmonton. It was like the clouds were swooping down to the ground. Man, it looked like it was going to swallow the city. And when it hit Sherwood Park the clouds were so orange. It became calm for a short while then it hailed then the winds came. We had some interesting weather last summer.
man that looked like it was rotating so much i mean i saw a few wall clouds and funnels but it was right ontop of u so u could see the rotation perfectly
In Edmonton, during the summer, it doesn't get completely dark until about 11PM. A benefit of being so far north. Of course, in the winter, it gets dark about 5PM. Crappy trade off but meh! What are ya gonna do?
It was so nuts. I love watching storms but this one was way way to intense for me. Im just happy no one got killed. people outside during CapX. But we were due for another big one. This was the year I guess.
I WAS TERRIFIED like i was crying and screaming and stuff because i have been trew a tornado and i cant do it agian its just to scary soo now im scared of storms
holy crapoly. that one crazy video. the music was perfect. that orange glow at 1:22 ??? has any one told you you sound like seth rogan. i don't know i just watched funny people, maybe i'm crazy.
I would have filmed longer but it started to pour. My camera is FAR from waterproof so I had to get out of there. As for the 21st, I don't have any video. I tried to get some lightning shots but, again, I got caught out in the rain and had to abort!
Well, I'll certainly know better for next year's storm season. Like most people, I don't usually keep a supply of clear plastic bags in with my camera. Until now. :)
I got some great storm cloud photos of the storm that hit on Saturday at Heritage Festival. Sadly, no cool video of the storm forming. Big Valley Jamboree was the place to be for that.
we just had a f0 tornado in tabernakle and it was from a squall line :O the tornado was at 6:15 and the f0 tornado almost damaged my house. thank god it didint becuase i have a pet fish. when i was in the basment i saw the tornado some trees fell i think. when we first had a tornado warning i yelled EVERYBODY IN THE BASMENT THERES A TORNADO and it was to late to stay in mah room. the tornado did not kill anybody. nobody was outside and at one part the tornado was 40 miles away from are house
That Shit was scary as hell. 2 boot I left my home in north west Edmonton only 2 hit the storm in the northeast lol But the second storm was prolly the eeriest that I ever seen EVER I couldn't keep my eyes off the storm!
Very ominous clouds!! They were reddish black out in the west end and my neighbour's trees were snapped in half like matches! Did you see that giant slab of concrete get knocked off the CN tower by a massive straight line gust?
I remember working in Downtown during this storm... it... was... insane!!!
