  • I made one of these except I sewed mine to a ribbon

  • You're making my day! WOW!

  • @chicavahoney You just made ours! Thanks! :)

  • Just made this today. My 3 year old LOVES it!! I accidentally brought ribbon that is a little wider and it doesn't stay on the elastic. Also, after I tightened everything, the elastic had stretched, as you said, but now it seems there is not enough tulle and exposed elastic. I did make the elastic 2-3 inches shorter than what I wanted. Any suggestions? Before tightening, should I take it off my chair so the elastic can shrink back, and then tighten? I will try again because it was so fun. Thanks

  • @kawailani335 Yes, I would take the tutu off the chair before you tighten the tulle. You can always add more tulle if you want it more filled in. Just cut new strips and fill them in as needed. I had someone just the other day comment that her ribbons wouldn't tighten either because they were wider so she actually tied them onto the elastic with an ordinary knot. Hope this helps and have fun!!

  • I just made aTuTu and it looks amazing! I was a fairy for Halloween! Im only 12, so if i can do it, you can.

  • what is the affect if i make the width of each strip wider or thinner? thinner = fluffier? wider = flatter? or other way around? im

  • @sandyryan1999 Actually I find wider = flufflier, thinner = flatter

  • @laceandtrim my cousin has a wedding comeing up and im makeing my own dress and id like to make a tulle type poofy tutuy bottom to my dress that sticks out sideways like a ballerinas but we are a more punky family so it will be black and a very hot pink but im not sure how to make it stick out so much everytiem i try its too thin or it flops down.... any help you could give????

  • @kemanchie Try using both Net and Tulle and cut your pieces shorter. Make a row using Net and then top it with rows of Tulle. The Net will give you body (I would cut them about 10"-12" long so when folded are about 5"-6" long) and the tulle will give you softness (I would make the tulle a little longer than the net)

  • um how many yards/inches of tulle would I need if my waist is 26-28 inches?

  • @TheTriste13 If your waist is 28 inches I would suggest cutting your elastic for the waistband at 25 inches. Depending on how full you want to make your skirt you will need about 32 to 37 yards of 9 inch wide tulle which can be split into multiple colors.

  • I was just wondering but what is the formula to find the amount of rolls of tulle? Im only in 7th grade and im not very good at math! Thanks :)

  • how do you make the layers?

  • @goddessnoire The fuller you make the skirt will create a layered look. Plan to use at least 2 pieces of tulle per inch of the waistband to get a full/layered look. Also use more than one color for dimension.

  • that puttimg the tutu on the elastic is easy, how do you cut the fabric is the challenge. Thanks, lady!

  • How long should I cut the tulle if it's for a 13 year old? I'm making my friend one, and say she wants it 1.5 feet long. Do I cut each tulle strip 3 feet long (since they're folded in half) or longer?

  • @fantastifical Yes, you will cut the tulle in 36 inch lengths (3 feet)

  • How can I make a tulle dress?

  • @janellemcglasson To make a tulle skirt into a dress start with a t-shirt or leotard. Cut the 9" wide tulle into the lengths, fold the tulle in half and sew it onto the waist of the t-shirt/leotard at the folded end of the tulle. Don't sew all the pieces onto the shirt continuously as you will loose the stretch of the t-shirt/leotard. You need to sew each piece of tulle on individually.

  • can you show us how we would add something to the elastic band so it has like a satin band instead of just the regular white band??

  • @kerilove1 You can make this Tu-Tu using Satin Ribbon for the waist band instead of elastic. You will not sew the ribbon closed as you do with the elastic but leave the ends of the ribbon loose so you can tie it in a bow when you put it on. I suggest using 1 1/2" satin ribbon....you need a piece of ribbon the length of the waist measurement PLUS 1 yard. You will place your first piece of tulle 19 inches from the beginning end of the ribbon and stitch it in place.

  • @kerilove1 continued: Place your "last" piece of tulle 19 inches from the end of the ribbon and stitch in place. Tie the ribbon around the back of a chair and knot the balance of the tulle around the ribbon between the first and last pieces of tulle.

  • FINALLY a video that shows me how to make a tutu and not tell me to buy a dvd thanks for posting this :)

  • This tutorial is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! Great presentation, a lot of explanation with measurements. I think I'm ready to make tutus for my 3 girls now! Thank you so much!!

  • what was the size of the length and width that you got for the tulle? :o

  • @lovablelily1 It's 9" tulle cut in 27" lengths. The item number for the tulle is 8020 and it runs at .40 per yard for small quantity orders. You can see the color card for the tulle by going to one of our websites...it will be under the bridal tulle category.

  • love it! thanks (:

  • Thank you so much for posting! I had made my own before watching this and someone had asked me to make them one. I really liked the idea of using the chair! It was hard to do with one hand. I also like that you add the ribbon and tell me how long to cute the pieces. I just played around with lengths before. I did like this video and thought it was very informative! THANKS!

  • @sxchic27 Thank you for your feed back and kind remarks! Let us know if we can help you with any supplies for this project!
