Surprisingly not very quiet at all. I generally will switch to manual focus before recording. Still a great lens. But for greater versatility, I purchased an inexpensive Nikon to micro four thirds adapter. All manual control, but good luck finding an 85mm f/1.4 micro four thirds lens. Hopefully, faster (reasonably priced) AF lenses are on the horizon for the GH1.
is the manual focus 20mm good? did you upgrade the latest patch that suppose to fix the auto focus noise issue? how you compare the 1.4 nikon to the panasonic 1.7mm
Sorry, late reply. Yes, latest patch. Manual focus on the 20mm is OK. But appears to have no detents. That is, you can turn it forever and it does not have stops or markings. I'd prefer stop at max focus in either direction. But at 20mm, not much depth of field beyond 5 feet anyway. As for your other question, apples and oranges. 85mm is faster an actually 170mm with the crop. Not sure if how much 2 inch extension adds if any. But both have a purpose for me.
What lens?

That what i though the kit less is not really good at low light, does 20mm focus silent in video?
