Ok i think what all of you guys is missings is the realisation that this clip isn't about feminism or anything like that and its not sexist. The simple fact is that in countries like Africa girls don't have equal rights to men. They are lower class citizens, they have less right for and education and hardly any say into their futures. There part of the vicious cycle of poverty and this clip simply shows what a big change can be made by a small chain of events
Is this group needed so that one day girls in developing countries will have schools 60:40 girl:guy. I mean I'm all for equality but feminism and all these women groups will happily walk all over men to promote women ahead of them. Feminist come under the guise of equality and helping the helpless but just look at western women with all their false rape lies, alimony, child support from guys that aren't the father, initiating 70% of divorces. I will never help one of these feminist causes.
Gotta love how every person on here who's insisting that this is bullshit because "equality already exists" is, you guessed it, a man.

Also, I love how we aren't even giving the poor Africans a cow, but putting them into generational debt slavery for a cow. Anything to make a buck, huh?
As much as I'd like to believe this, it fails to take into account several factors working against that scenario, like cultural influences, and predicts a chain reaction of events that are not likely to happen to each individual, or even at all within societies that believe that females are inferior or are oppressed. It also so readily dismisses the medical advances made through science, diplomacy through government, and financial support through money. Prove me wrong.
This is BS and brutally hostile towards men all over the world and most punishingly against the boys in africa who get no help at all nowadays. Slavery, death, unemployment, starvation, jail and loneliness in dosages most women are completely clueless about is what awaits these boys. And you can support that by supporting this. No. Men must start caring about men. And women must start caring about boys and men too.
this is ridiculous. first of all, just like one of the tags in this video it is discrimination against males. Also, if I were a businessman, why should I care about girls around the world and their potential for "profits" and growth, and loan them money where I am making money now with little to no investments and costs exploiting them (factory, etc). It's the sad realization that we live in such a capital driven society, blame yourselves for wrongful voting, not discrimination.
1. Why should girls be given this unfair advantage over boys? This is just 1st world women trying to extend their anti-male reverse sexist mentality to countries that they feel are "male dominated".
2. These 3rd world countries have deeply-rooted cultural problems that need to be dealt with from within.
I was so relaxed by the song that I didn't really pay Attention to what the video was trying to tell me! haha, nope. I like the idea, but I need to learn more about it to trust and believe that this could actually end war and distruction in the future
Do you seriously believe that all of the ills in the developing world can seriously be traced back to unequal rights between men and women? Seriously, you really think that's why?
I don't really know what to think about this. Yes, girls are valuable, and they're just as valuable as men, but I actually am a little offended by this.
Actually, if you were to look at this critically, you could say that saying that girls are the future of humanity is just reinforcing the stereotype that all women are good for is childrearing, since gender equality means that's all they can contribute that men can't.
That said, there's nothing wrong with trying to improve people's lives.
I don't think this should be about necessarily empowering women to the point where it becomes a sort of individualistic narcissism (like with many hardcore feminists today), but more just that humans as a race, and not just as separate genders, can work together to create a better world. This is almost reverse discrimination.
@KiraxKompton Actually, I'm a guy, and I know the difference between "there" and "their". Generalizing one gender as more intelligent than another is ignorant and sexist, which in turn makes YOU ignorant and sexist.
Wow! that was really good. I am so happy to have been given the opportunity now to focus more on supporting girls! They will make a difference. What a sad commentary that awesome 0807 below doesn't get it. That's why it's going to take a lot of effort to make some changes. There are so many ignorant folks in our country. Our family has sponsored 4 World Vision children for over 10 years. There are so many ways to help. Thanks to Oprah too for getting the message out there!
awesomeO807 perfectly defines what we call stupid and ignorant of the world around us. You don't have to approve of the theory, but to bash it as you have done and to say that there is nothing wrong with the world proves your stupidity and ignorance. Don't post comments to draw attention, you look like a fool.
You don't need to be a feminist to want to encourage and empower women.
Did you know women grow half the food in the world but own only 1 percent of farm land? It is this kind of inequality that needs to change.
Men should not be threatened by a movement that empowers women. In the rural Third world, women are culturally seen as inferior; they're uneducated and denied basic rights.
This is not to say that men are not important, but it is to say that it's important to help THESE women.
Half the world is populated by women and denying them a chance to an education or reasonable health services, like has been the norm in many Third world countries, means depriving the entire world of an incredible amount of potential. To help women is to change the world.
What some on here do not grasp is that if men feel marginalized, feel that they are not as important, they will violently.
The harsh reality is men are stronger and more willing to use violence to acquire what they want than woman. Thererfore, it isn't a good idea to ignore them because all it takes is for a well armed group olf men to destroy these initiatives and restore their dominance.
How about you help PEOPLE become educated? Most HUMANS suffer from lack of education, food, etc. It isn't just a woman thing/
Any person who supports this one sided approach is a moron. If you want to reduce the worlds problems you have to help ALL, not select one over the other.
The sad thing is stuff like this only inflames the situation because it says to men that they are not important.
if women are equal in society, why are they not equal domestically?
in court cases, why is a domestic dispute called abuse instead of a physical quarrel between two equal human beings? women, as men, are superior. because women are already equal in their place as women in a non-feminist society. feminism disrupts a natural balance because some women want to be men.
(and your post is just an over-simplification of something that is beyond you)
This video makes a great point. Amazing that some of the men who have posted on here seem to be threatened by the idea of helping women become educated, respected and independent. Then again... maybe not so strange... y'know?
The jaded/negative comments from people who doubtless live in the first world and have the benefits of education and stable societies are saddening. However, that there are people working to improve the lives of those in the developing/third world is inspiring. Think if instead of tearing each other down more people spent their time helping their fellow man. Hm!
I reccomend you all do some research. Education and "girl power" are working wonders in the world. Just look at successful organizations like this one and the CAI. Statsitics show that if a woman is educated, a group of people will be given the opportunity to change. Have some faith.
hey. Good Idea...but I question the efficacy of the concept. How do you intend to counter the cultural belief in many developing countries that women have less worth and therefore less rights than men? I suggest not providing aid like this into situations where the cow will be taken by the males and the girl subjugated to the same life she had before she owned and lost her cow.
True aid should be in the form of schools and books for youth.
One cannot challenge, and then change, cultural beliefs easily, you're very right on that point. However, for a girl/woman to earn the respect and therefore equal rights requires, at the beginning, she show equal footing to the men in power. Sexist? definitely, but true nevertheless. Clearly, education is also an integral part of this. Maternal Health -> Eduction -> Microfinace... keep them healthy, education them, then help them stand on their own, only one things of these isn't enough.
You'd be surprised, dupersloby. Hope springs eternal, as they say, and luckily, people ACTUALLY living in poverty don't share your pessimistic view of things. They don't dream their children will be movie stars, they dream they'll live beyond 5 years old. Consider that for a moment if you can.
Surprising far actually. 25 or so years ago, about a generation, the idea that girls would go to school was considered laughable, school was only for boys. Now, across Africa, millions of girls are in school. That happened because of their dreams and hopes for a better life and because others have lent their support to help them. I mean, come on, this video isn't supposed to be taken _literally_, it shows how a chain reaction can happen when people are willing to help.
when people are willing to promote feminism in third world countries and americanize the world in order to sap countries of their wealth and build a world empire.
What is a "normal" society? Why get so hung up on what everyone else thinks? I know plenty members of society who care about equal rights! And what is this about demasculation? I don't understand what point you're trying to make anymore...
are you guys kidding? this video and this organization is amazing. look at the website, read the statistics, see what the goals are, how they can be achieved and what the amazing results can be--before you make ignorant judgments.
Excellent question. The simple answer is that things are way more connected than you may realize. Economic gain, aka a cow that turns into a herd helps pay for school. Education helps people understand things like civil society, health, sex. Understanding these things help people understand the nature of HIV. Understanding the nature of HIV helps people understand how to prevent spreading it.
To lower HIV rates, you have to educate people about transmission. To educate people, you have to have schools. In Africa, you often have to pay to send kids to school, and you loose the labor they would be performing while they are in a classroom. Therefore, you need better economic oppportunities to create communities where education is available. Also, women who have respect and rights in their communities have better ability to say no to sex, etc. etc.
@dlori2011: Because Cows, rather than Sheep, are the dominant herd animal in Africa. Girl Effect rather than Boy Effect because, in Africa, it's girls and women than need empowering, not boys. It's not sexism, but years of research and work fighting the root causes of poverty. Helping to empower women is one of the most important root causes -- you don't see an impoverished society anywhere in the world that doesn't give equal rights to women.
actually im kinda hoping her herd isnt cows. cows are very inefficient animals. The again, its kinda like allowing china to continue to create energy in coal power plants. but i dont know what other animal she would use. lol
first your propaganda is launched in the wrong place
you launch it in a place where equality exist already thus causing a reverse in actions and making the equality here unbalance (this is extreme, i know but if it were to happen more this would without a doubt happen) and we would be right back at the start but girls above boys.what if a boy in Africa, wants to help? he is ingored. everyone who wants to help or needs help should get it.
omg......lololololololo.....how many of u girls know how to raise a cow.......how many of u know what a cow eats beside grass.....the most shitiest clip i ever saw.
loved the video-- surprised my some of the morons commenting on this video. it's not about some sort of "crazy feminism." if you ever travel to the developing world or take a minute to learn about poverty you would realize it. it's basic common sense. empower the girl child, and you make a big step towards fighting poverty.
Squeeofdoom, assuming you refer to arranged marriages - does that mean (a) *only* husbands/kids/men in general are shackles to wome - or does it (b) work both ways, where wives/kids/women in general are shackles to men?
In this sense I am referring to women, because that is what this is about; however, I do believe that arranged marriages are a bad deal for both the man and the woman, and children that come out of it. Also I believe that unfortunately, the man usually gets the better deal. This is called realism.
Clearly you need to review your definition of feminism. Yes I am a feminist. That does not automatically make me a sexist. I believe that women and men need to be on an equal footing.
@squeeofdoom who cares how feminism is defined what matters is how it is actualized, and feminism is "womyn" empowerment through lies and victimization, at the expense of men. Many people understand this and would rue being called a feminist.
Actually, it boils down to the fact that in many societies abroad, women and young girls are the worst-affected by the consequences of poverty. That's not to say that women are the only ones in need, not by any stretch. The reality is that women have limited access and are often unable to reach their full potential as a result.
As if a female, when given power or position to make the right choices would automaticly do so. Noo, you don't need self-discovery to become a good leader for tomorrow, you need a vagina. It's the answer to all the fucking problems.
Not denying the issue, lets just keep the issue within it's own context.
Vaginas don't take away the insanity, drugs, violence, pollution and the slow decay of this planet. Get empowered some other way, bitches!
@zero269 I can't thumbs up this enough. I was watching this video and thinking what the fuck is going to make that girl turn that cow into a herd. She could easily use the money and fucking do who the fuck knows. Get the fuck out of here with this sexist girl power bullshit.
OH MY GOD! this is so freaking awsome! if you paste this message into 5 other comments and press ALT F12 the name of your future boyfriend or girlfriend will show up on your screen!!! its SOO COOL
Yeah :D Take the husband out of the picture for sure :P Ok now different image. Imagine hundreds of millions of men still supporting the families and doing all that stuff this imaginative girl is supposed to do, then get a real life ;)
Not so much. Because females tend to be the ones who stay in their homes/villages and who care for babies, they tend to have a different perspective than men who are more mobile and who aren't biologically more likely to be providing child care. Saying the sexes are different (DUH!) isn't bigotry. If you want to tackle poverty, you need to support the people who are more likely to stay in one place and think in terms of children and community--hence, a focus on women. It's PRACTICAL.
@joeofpie2 good God. that's the worst response to something like this I have ever heard. It's not about country vs. country. It's not about attacking. It's not about political bullcrap. its like having kids hoping they will grow up to be movie stars
and a whole bunch of what ifs that probably won't even happen in a 3rd world country
dupersloby 3 years ago
You'd be surprised, dupersloby. Hope springs eternal, as they say, and luckily, people ACTUALLY living in poverty don't share your pessimistic view of things. They don't dream their children will be movie stars, they dream they'll live beyond 5 years old. Consider that for a moment if you can.
careusa 2 years ago
yes, and look at how far dreaming has gotten them
dupersloby 2 years ago
Surprising far actually. 25 or so years ago, about a generation, the idea that girls would go to school was considered laughable, school was only for boys. Now, across Africa, millions of girls are in school. That happened because of their dreams and hopes for a better life and because others have lent their support to help them. I mean, come on, this video isn't supposed to be taken _literally_, it shows how a chain reaction can happen when people are willing to help.
careusa 2 years ago
when people are willing to promote feminism in third world countries and americanize the world in order to sap countries of their wealth and build a world empire.
wow. that is inspiring
dupersloby 2 years ago
Equal rights is a bad thing? Explain that one!
s2drouil 2 years ago
feminism isn't equality.
feminism promotes female superiority.
to make it simple:
men may have more rights but women are allowed there "rights to womanhood" which means you can't hit them rape them etc.
when fulfilling our traditional roles in society, our rights are evened out :)
dupersloby 2 years ago
Actually, men have rights about not being hit or raped, either. Sorry to break it to you, but it's all about equal rights!
s2drouil 2 years ago
yeah, like anyone gives a shit
society doesn't care about equal rights
regardless of the dusty old laws in the back of the file cabinet
in a normal society a woman would NEVER get away with demasculation, even if the law doesn't get involved
arguement: null and void
dupersloby 2 years ago
What is a "normal" society? Why get so hung up on what everyone else thinks? I know plenty members of society who care about equal rights! And what is this about demasculation? I don't understand what point you're trying to make anymore...

how would giving some girl a cow lower the HIV rate?
minituremodel 3 years ago
Hahahahahahaha
Zackkbum 3 years ago
Because cow = money and money = education and education = knowing how to avoid getting HIV
cde33 2 years ago 2
Excellent question. The simple answer is that things are way more connected than you may realize. Economic gain, aka a cow that turns into a herd helps pay for school. Education helps people understand things like civil society, health, sex. Understanding these things help people understand the nature of HIV. Understanding the nature of HIV helps people understand how to prevent spreading it.
careusa 2 years ago 4
To lower HIV rates, you have to educate people about transmission. To educate people, you have to have schools. In Africa, you often have to pay to send kids to school, and you loose the labor they would be performing while they are in a classroom. Therefore, you need better economic oppportunities to create communities where education is available. Also, women who have respect and rights in their communities have better ability to say no to sex, etc. etc.

Come on...
It's funny. Why cows? Why not sheep? Why girl effect why not boy effect?
:))
dlori2001 3 years ago
@dlori2011: Because Cows, rather than Sheep, are the dominant herd animal in Africa. Girl Effect rather than Boy Effect because, in Africa, it's girls and women than need empowering, not boys. It's not sexism, but years of research and work fighting the root causes of poverty. Helping to empower women is one of the most important root causes -- you don't see an impoverished society anywhere in the world that doesn't give equal rights to women.
careusa 2 years ago 6
actually im kinda hoping her herd isnt cows. cows are very inefficient animals. The again, its kinda like allowing china to continue to create energy in coal power plants. but i dont know what other animal she would use. lol
UggAndBrian 2 years ago
@careusa
first your propaganda is launched in the wrong place
you launch it in a place where equality exist already thus causing a reverse in actions and making the equality here unbalance (this is extreme, i know but if it were to happen more this would without a doubt happen) and we would be right back at the start but girls above boys.what if a boy in Africa, wants to help? he is ingored. everyone who wants to help or needs help should get it.
equality all the way. -alex

GREAT VIDEO!!!
In the words of Malcolm X "If you want to educate someone, educate a man. If you want to educate a
nation, educate the women." and NO that's now feminism that's reality.

you boys are already empowered and feel you're entitled to it, that's why this vid isn't about you.
this is about empowering girls to give them a chance for once. so you boys quit your bitchin.
alibabac 3 years ago 2
loved the video-- surprised my some of the morons commenting on this video. it's not about some sort of "crazy feminism." if you ever travel to the developing world or take a minute to learn about poverty you would realize it. it's basic common sense. empower the girl child, and you make a big step towards fighting poverty.

Note how this video implies husbands, kids, men in general are some sort of shackles ...
This boils down to sexist, bigotted opinions - feminism at it's finest.
mathewskarl 3 years ago
They are shackles when the girl didn't choose to have them.
squeeofdoom 3 years ago 3
Squeeofdoom, assuming you refer to arranged marriages - does that mean (a) *only* husbands/kids/men in general are shackles to wome - or does it (b) work both ways, where wives/kids/women in general are shackles to men?
If you answered a) You're a sexist (feminist)
If you answered b) You're not a sexist.
mathewskarl 3 years ago
In this sense I am referring to women, because that is what this is about; however, I do believe that arranged marriages are a bad deal for both the man and the woman, and children that come out of it. Also I believe that unfortunately, the man usually gets the better deal. This is called realism.
Clearly you need to review your definition of feminism. Yes I am a feminist. That does not automatically make me a sexist. I believe that women and men need to be on an equal footing.
squeeofdoom 3 years ago
@squeeofdoom who cares how feminism is defined what matters is how it is actualized, and feminism is "womyn" empowerment through lies and victimization, at the expense of men. Many people understand this and would rue being called a feminist.
sentienceISi 1 year ago
Actually, it boils down to the fact that in many societies abroad, women and young girls are the worst-affected by the consequences of poverty. That's not to say that women are the only ones in need, not by any stretch. The reality is that women have limited access and are often unable to reach their full potential as a result.
kerikae 3 years ago 3
As if a female, when given power or position to make the right choices would automaticly do so. Noo, you don't need self-discovery to become a good leader for tomorrow, you need a vagina. It's the answer to all the fucking problems.
Not denying the issue, lets just keep the issue within it's own context.
Vaginas don't take away the insanity, drugs, violence, pollution and the slow decay of this planet. Get empowered some other way, bitches!

I agree, maybe girls look at problems in a diffirent way... But that won't fix the problem, they also need the brains to solve it!
blingiej 3 years ago
@zero269 I can't thumbs up this enough. I was watching this video and thinking what the fuck is going to make that girl turn that cow into a herd. She could easily use the money and fucking do who the fuck knows. Get the fuck out of here with this sexist girl power bullshit.

Yeah :D Take the husband out of the picture for sure :P Ok now different image. Imagine hundreds of millions of men still supporting the families and doing all that stuff this imaginative girl is supposed to do, then get a real life ;)
Piksson 3 years ago
That's all this seems to be - female supremacy "girls can do it - boys can't..." sounds like feminist bigotry to me.
mathewskarl 3 years ago
Not so much. Because females tend to be the ones who stay in their homes/villages and who care for babies, they tend to have a different perspective than men who are more mobile and who aren't biologically more likely to be providing child care. Saying the sexes are different (DUH!) isn't bigotry. If you want to tackle poverty, you need to support the people who are more likely to stay in one place and think in terms of children and community--hence, a focus on women. It's PRACTICAL.
