I bet the Static Hold didn't make much difference because at the immense strength and level you're currently at your CNS is already primed for full potential....just my theory.
Mike I use the holds in my training along with reverse band now. I love it and always have. Gary Pamplin got me to try something at meets. After last warmup set in squat I load bar with 10% more than opener and hold for 5 seconds. Opener is a snap then.
@thunder72191 I already have herniated two discs, and fixxed both of them to continue lifting heavy. Don't think you can't fix a herniated disc either, just look at Derek poundstone. Doctors told him he was risking paralysis if he continued lifting, and he came back and won.
@wsman18 sure man if u think its worth risking ur life. ur gonna feel the effects in about 10 years, not only in ur back but also in ur joints and ur gonna regret it. sure it boosts ur ego and makes ur build muscle faster but im not willing to risk my body cuz i only have one in a lifetime
cool man so its been 3 months how is the progress? worth it mike?i dont see how it couldnt be...i do accasional heavier partials to overload at the end of bench days once in a while and i come back stronger the following week.
Good Job!!! I like doing statics at the end of my sets before I rack it. I will hold the weight for 10-15 seconds before I rack it. I also do bottom statics. Example: Bench Press, bring it down to where the weight is just barely off the chest. The objective is to not let the weight rest, but to hold it, to overload the muscle fibers. Hold for 10 seconds, then explode up. Execute 3-5 reps like this, and you will be feeling it.
Instead of holding 615 static, what I have found to help athletes improve their activation is to unrack the weight preforming and explosive short range concentric movement and immediately re-racking the barbell. This achieves activation without the fatigue inducing effects of a 2-10 second static hold.
Instead of a 615 static for 10 seconds, perhaps try unracking 550 or 575 powerfully and setting teh weight back down, as quickly as possible strip of the 100 extra pounds and move to your work sets.
Statics work the CNS and the tendons and ligaments extremely. I did them occasionally (with much less weight, of course) and it improved my performance remarkably. Now I don't have the equipment any more :-(
I would've gone a little bit deeper with the squat though to let the quads work harder.
But as You felt, statics are brutal work and not making subsequent sets easier. ;-)
Great power. Where can I get some swing out weight hooks like you have for your bench?

What is that hook rack device that swings you have there? Very interesting. Is it specific to the rack you have?
I really hate my Powertec rack's hooks!

you have some balls to use that weight without a spotter lol. and btw your hips looked fine, i don't think you would get red lighted for that.

So strong Mike!!
I sure you must have mentioned it somewhere at some point,
but, what was the reason(s) for switching to "looking down" as you squat?

@pianoboy75 If you play piano don't tell someone as big as your piano how to squat... He doesn't need Critiquing. PS. I know you lift but still.
