  • I don't understand whats so great about twitter. I mean it knid of sounds stupid. Is it just like every other social networking site or is it different?

  • this much drink and smoke in me, this vid is starting to make the room spin trying to understand, format the info and keep up..... youtube....shane dawson.........sexiphil........jews...wait. shit. renig.

  • i dont have twitter

  • Your YouTube knowledge is quite extensive!

  • @ScottKinmartinTV Hey Scott!

  • @wowimshane Hola!

  • I always contract your accent for a couple minutes after watching your videos. I love it.

  • why are all the comments on here like a paragraph long?

  • Your smile is adorable :3

  • yeww-tubers lmaoo

  • Oh, and this video should be most viewed on youtube :P

    Very smart and correct.

  • I love your logic.

    Great common sense (Y)

  • TOBUSCUS!!!!

  • You have earned my subscription, great video.

  • I like this a lot, I agree with everything you say DESPITE AlphaCat and I had a fight on twitter last night (Yes I was involved in the partner fight on twitter) HOWEVER... the part where categories and playlists are to be skits, vlogs, parody... THAT is perfect and the category on that would be amazing to have. As for this video, I was skeptic, but I sat and watched the whole thing. As for YouTube being an income, only the best content is deserving in my opinion, the rest is spam. Take care!

  • You're quite right about the suggestion thingy... I'm preparing to create something like that outside youtube....something that helps people find online videos that they'll probably like. (according to style, etc.) Hopefully It's gonna be up late february. Follow me on twitter @tubejunkie if you're interested.

  • Well, here is ONE member of your audience that is NOT on Twitter, and WILL not be on Twitter. As chairman of the YouTube Curmudgeon Society, and Recording Secretary of the Luddites Guild, I hate and fear it. Good insight on the question, though.

  • Im sorry, you have totally and utterly just completely contradicted yourself, alot of your videos contain thumbnails of very popular themes, tags and so on? If this does not work out for you then do not complain about it, just keep fighting for it.

  • @LewisAWhite Did you even listen to the video?

  • I agree with what you're saying, but you're making youtube seem like a business and a competition that revolves around money instead of a fun site to post videos and be creative. I understand that it's a good way to make money, but I think the aspect of money is what's ruining the site ;(

  • @TouchTheSkyFilms The "aspect of money" is what is keeping this side running. In order to keep YouTube up Google has to burn through massive amounts of cash every year. And it is just getting to the point where it is sustainable. If it weren't for people taking a chance on YouTube as a career/business, this site wouldn't exist anymore.

  • @thegr8stever Yeah I understand that, I just hate that it's become this corporate money making platform. In 2008 and even 2009, it wasn't like this in any way. People just made videos for fun and there was a lot more creativity instead of people trying to take advantage of the system to make money. Now with people looking at it as a business and "job", I think that creativity and fun aspect of the site is being destroyed. I know it's reality, I just wish it wasn't this way.

  • @TouchTheSkyFilms Look man, I'm sorry if I was dismissive about your points on fun and creativity. But I really do not agree it is being destroyed. As a matter of fact right now you will see content on YouTube that wasn't around 2 years ago. And that is because the monetary aspect of the site has allowed for people to dedicate their whole day to their videos. Even people that will focus on making a living will have to be creative to create content. YouTube creativity is alive and well.

  • @thegr8stever Yeah, I can agree with you on that. You made some good points. There definetely are still a lot of people that are creative and make great videos. It just bugs me that there a some youtubers that abuse the site for money :/ But I guess it can't be a perfect world. Btw I wasn't trying to come across as rude or anything, cause I did really like the video and think you're a good youtuber!

  • @TouchTheSkyFilms YouTube is a business and a competition. It's not owned by the government - if it was, people wouldn't be making a living on it and also a lot of people would hate it because the government would be spending several billion dollars of YOUR tax money on something that generates no money.

Exactly what @thegr8stever said, if people weren't willing to use this platform as a business, you would not have it. Period.

  • @petercoffin I think what @TouchTheSkyFilms is saying is that while YouTube is a business, it would be nice if people didn't just view it as such. YouTube used to be a fun place to come and discover new/funny people. I see the same big people on the homepage everyday. Would it be so terrible to not have Dawson on there for a day and instead feature some new talent? We've gone from completely fun to completely a place of business.

  • @petercoffin I hope you understand my point though. I do realize that money is needed for it to exist and that it's turned into a corporate business. But that's what ruined it IMO, it use to be a site full of artistry and originality and now it's a bunch of money hogs using it as a business instead. I just think it's lost a lot of it's creative value and the best aspects of the site have been destroyed. There's still some cool people on here, but there's a lot that are purely money motivated.

  • I spent the whole time watching your teeth...They're so white...

  • Making drama about common seance and then watching a whole bunch of people flip shit about it just to get exposure, honestly what one person or even a group of people that starts controversy responding or arguing with them is only giving them what they want. Personally believe there is much bigger things going on with youtube that need to be brought up like all the commercialism or how main stream industries are flooding youtube .

  • great video

    i love your stuff

  • the way you say category x]

  • Your suggestions would great I would love to look through the categories and see "daily vlogs" because that is my fav type of videos :D Also you elephant in the room comment made me laugh :D

  • The suggestions thing is a really good idea man. I always love to find different youtubers to watch, but it's hard sometimes because I don't know where to look because I can't find the videos with the styles I enjoy!

  • your accent=the cutest thing ever

  • Something tell me that this video my cause some type of controversy.

  • i agree with like every word you said.

  • My problem with youtube right now is how it restarts and reloads every video I watch off of my subscriptions after 10 seconds of watching it... anyone else having this problem?

  • i like hearing what's on your mind, that's what's on my mind lol

  • Hi, David! I think YouTube should put a rating section but with username asides their thumbs ups or downs because sometimes people don't always take time to comment someone else's videos (although it's the only way) and in some of 'em when only comments are disabled, that'll be really handy, but that's just my opinion.

    Great video! Thumbs up!

  • You made really great points! You should and deserve to be so much for popular than you are! All of your videos are great!

  • This is shit

  • Ah I like your accent...

  • I hated the argument that if you make good content, you'll get views. bull. dude, thank you for making this video. this is the most Real video about YouTube Partners out there currently. Everything you said is incredibly true.

  • Glad someone finally put all the scattered thoughts into one video. Much respect.

  • #fakephillyd Your editing made me think you contracted tourette's?

  • its too funny to watch people get up in arms with trying to defend screwing over other less known Youtubers, in less populated genres LOL no matter how you slice it, it's wrong. And not to mention embarrassing cause you need to do it to get clout. That aside great job on the video, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts!

  • lol quick correction, I never called anyone out. I don't do that. If I need to 'call someone out' I'd contact them directly.

Also none of what I spoke about yesterday had anything to do much about fal`se thumbnails as you're speaking about. While I don't like people/ videos who wouldn't stand a chance without it, I don't find it that big a deal honestly.

However my issue is with people false categorizing videos, blocking other youtubers in their respective genres.Theres no excuse for that.

  • @Alphacat well he didn't say you mentioned the misleading thumbnails, he was just mentioning things other youtubers thought that was wrong, aside from what you said.

  • Comment removed

  • Did he just say "all of this is *shitting*"????

  • @StaticCentury I mean... erm... he's my new 2nd favorite youtuber. Chris, you are my favorite.

  • All of this was great and I agree with you 100% and omg...I just got a twitter message where Shane said he watched your video. Thats pretty neat :D

  • next video is 100th :D !

  • Great video dude! I fucking love you!

  • no one says it better than you david... BECAUSE YOU'RE THE GREATEST... EVER

  • Isn't Blockbuster going bankrupt?

  • I have found my next favorite YouTuber.

  • @walkvetica I see how it is:/

  • Peter Coffin Needs to get his Mouse of his Ass. He blasted me for complaining that I got disbabled on Adsense. I have been appealing since right after Vicon with no success. I still have no idea why I was disabled. I have to presume I was Clickbombed, but I hate Guessing. Adsense won;t tell me and PArtnership says they can not do anything more. They want to give it back to me.

People will now band together to Flag Vidoes to stop the cheaters.

    FREE KIDDSOCK

  • Comment removed

  • @KiddsockTV KiddSock needs to not use any YouTube-related post/article/video that gets even mild attention to further his own agenda. That is what annoys Peter Coffin about KiddSock. And the mouse is comfortable. Leave him out of this.

  • @petercoffin Really? MY Agenda? To get Adsense Shut down Corrected? How would you feel if your Adsense/YouTube Account got shut down? So you want to Censor me? Despite what some of your videos about? Hypocrite. I am glad you are enjoy the mouse. Did I hurt your feelings?

Were You behind my adsense being shut down? WHY?

  • @KiddsockTV No, I was not behind it. And it is completely absurd to think that. I only began to dislike you after a ridiculous amount of YouTube-related posts I go on, I see you complaining about your AdSense account. It's flat out annoying.

  • @petercoffin @KiddsockTV I respect both of you. I monitor my adsense account every single day to make sure no one is click spamming me. If someone click spams me, I WILL catch and report it quick. Kiddsock does talk about his adsense account a lot but I do hope he's looking out for other youtubers having the same issue and I believe he is. If you see me complaining about issues I have, I'm def willing to help others with the same problems. :)

  • @xRandomShadowManx I do try to help other ppl that are disabled. We discuss it in the Google forums. There are more than you think. There was a case of someone getting disabled even before they became Partner. Then some other glitch.

  • @KiddsockTV Good stuff man. I suggest strictly keeping it on the Google forums and not on youtube related posts/blogs/videos/etc. Try what @petercoffin suggested and if it doesn't work then post about it on the google forums. :)

  • @xRandomShadowManx That's the thing. That is where we HAVE been discussing it. Even the Top Contributors are supporting us. Form Appeals do not work. Emails do not work. There is no other way to contact them unless we want to get a lawyer. Nobody want to bite the hand that feeds us. NOTHING works.

  • @petercoffin Glad I got someone's attention. And Yes, I do try to help other ppl that are disabled. Discuss it in the Google forums. Some HAVE reported the activity and still got disabled.

  • you're second on my fav youtuber list xD

    then shane

  • I'll be spreading this video. :)

  • I really liked this video. You were very informative and thought provoking. Keep 'em coming.

  • You are right on point man

  • @keeptheheat EFF YES

  • I think it's only misleading if the title is completely irrelevant otherwise it's just the sales pitch. I like your idea of categorizing the videos :D

  • I've come across some people that get pissed off because these big youtubers use "cheats" to get attention from people. They are often called "youtube whores" but if this is your job then of course you'd use any strategy that would work on getting you views.

What I really don't like are those people who make video responses to popular youtubers but it's completely unrelated to the original video. That's definitely cheating.

  • Ha the entire suggestions list is you! XD

And your smile is so funny in this video.

  • awesome vid keep em coming

  • why dont you get facebook?

  • @BNblog he has a facebook for the show

  • I love how well thought out and articulate your videos, but especially now thought provoking they are. Also I really like a bitcher who has thought about how things might be different. Well done.

  • Well, I will say I was flat out trolling with the Twilight things. Those were intentionally to mess with people. But yes. Good point.

Also, I do actively search for new people. I just don't try to trick people into liking me. Do I think anyone watching the Twilight videos will convert to a regular viewer? Absolutely not. I am messing with them intentionally.

  • a very insightful view of the commercial side of youtube! boom! style- the best way to do related vids! i agree with almost 100% with this! you win. the game.

  • I laughed when he said category. Kat-agory. lol

  • I think youtube relies on metadata (tags) to identify videos because it is cheap. Users create tags for their own videos, which is does not cost youtube any thing. For youtube to suggest related videos based on style of format, not tags would likely require an investment of time and work and cost them money. Even though there are disadvantages to user created tags, I thinks its unlikely for youtube to move on to anything else.

  • I think its perfectly fine. Whatever works for that youtuber, right? thats how modern advertising works anyway.

  • fourth comment!

  • third comment
