  • Is that him breathing? It sounds like someone is off masturbating into the mic of the camera. I don't blame them though...

  • @bddbjrsexy really? You are listening clasic music and you are making idiot comments like this?

  • @shidonaki1 How is that an idiot comment? Not everyone who listens to classical music is a stuck up pretentious asshole like yourself....

  • @bddbjrsexy Don't be rude! I didn't insult you! But that comment is really idiot...no offens!

  • @shidonaki1 You kind of did insult me, saying I made a stupid comment. It was meant as a joke and to me jokes are supposed to be a little stupid. Ah well, can't win 'em all.

  • gotta love the Suggested Videos bar...."Bach-Suite no.1 in G for Cello"...."Cello Minute No.2 by Bach"......Ugly to Sexy (extreme photoshop makeover)...... "Rostropovich Plays Bach 3-v: Bourrees I and III".... "Authur Christmas Movie Trailer"

  • serj from system of a down. this dude can rip it up haha

  • Favourite piece from the Cello suite's so far. Loving the double stopping.

  • His imbellishments are quite nice, and his tempo is perfect... beautiful playing

  • always nice to see the top comments talking about something completely irrelevant to the point of the video.

  • his hair moves with his music...wonderful :)

  • Yes, actually he is hiding some pets in his hair.

  • <3 Adoro...

  • Get over the hair and enjoy the music. He's terrific! Or you could watch the Rostropovich videos.

  • @ftatem1

    No hair there. :D

  • Comment removed

  • Will my hair grow if I practice Bach.

  • @nipponhouseplayer uncontrollably

  • @FireSpttd he has the whole orchestra, musicians and directors of the world (and theatres too)

  • Damn. I thought i was doing okay when i reached grade 6 cello. then i started watching his videos and was like OH MANNNNNN

  • @Coolcat233 lol

  • this is probably my favorite movement in Bach's second suite

  • Incredible musicianship. Rare exquisite touch and the bow control yeeeesh!

  • He nailed it! I'm playing this and it's very difficult.

  • I like his beard

  • Oh my god. he destroyed it!! that was amazing.

  • this guy is legendary!

  • It's funny how the cello can play so many emotions.

  • @chihuahua1number1 How is it funny? It's quite tremendous actually. Imagine that, one instrument can do all this.

  • @ChristianRocker7452 its an expression don't take it literally faggot

  • Muito bom mesmo!!!

  • someone knows something about his chello?

  • @Rigobertogomoso Montagnana

  • @Rigobertogomoso I know you spelled CELLO wrong.

  • @Rigobertogomoso

About his cello? Well, for instance that you will never have it.

  • @jsnauwaert

what are you doing reading comments five months ago?, your life must be very busy

  • You must be a real d-bag not to appreciate this.

  • So this is what happened to Pedro after Napoleon Dynamite.

  • This guy's only fault was preaching christianity. Other than that his cello skills are terrific.

  • omg... <3

  • I need to learn that master piece

  • My favorite song to play!

  • his sound is so HUGE

  • amazing!! the double stops are played friggin perfectly!!! the virbrato is there but not too over bearing like the other renditions i've heard. A+

  • Amazing! I love the sound that he's able to produce! It reminds me of a harpsichord without the annoying "pinging" sound.

  • Wow, what a great skill! Thank-you! Just beautiful.

  • this guy is amazing

  • Ma version favorite !

  • You guys should look at Maisky when he's older and everything's white. Looks like the uber-genius mad scientist. If you like Brahms, then look for the Brahms double concerto with Maisky and Gidon Kremer and Bernstein(conducting). It is like the three crazies of the music world put together xD

  • stupid youtube is not letting me post comments easily -.-

  • @MusicCloud1 thats good couse otherwise it would be spammed with shit from websites all over you tube lagging everything trying to remove them :P

  • pure energy.

  • where can i find sheet music for this

  • @haltdeklappe Anywhere that sells violins, cellos, violas, bass, etc.... they usually will have music in their shops.

  • ive been trying to learn this on bass <3

  • I tried playing menuet II on my bass

    It sounds so bad!

  • Meraviglioso!

  • this song is amazing very cool i love bash and cello

  • This guy has a lot of hair going on.....

  • @happymax1 It gives him his power.

  • @happymax1 lol

  • @happymax1

He almost gives Troy Polamalu a run for his Head and Shoulders shampoo.

  • Pfffffffffffff! Maddness!! Excellent!!!!!

  • It's possible to play it on a bass guitar and it sounds quite well.

  • can you give me the tab? thanks

  • Sorry, I dont'use tabs, The chords are possible if you play in low register and use open strings when necessary. It's quite difficult to switch sometimes especially on a fretless 4-string and sometimes the lowest notes have to be played one octave higer. On 5-string or more it should be easier to have all the notes as written.

  • ok

    thanks

  • @barjulis This is why they invented the 6 string bass :-p

  • @barjulis This is why they invented the 6 string bass :-p

  • @barjulis i personally think it sounds like shit on an electric bass. i dont really think the 2 instruments are comparable

  • Think what you want, it's a free world. I've heard lousy versions on a cello also.

  • @triviumlambofgod With a lot of practice and messing with the settings or using a pedal you can make it sound amazing. I spent 3 or 4 months just working on the prelude to suite no. 1. Seems ridiculous, but well worth it.

  • Very great, wonderfull! Regards from Leipzig!

  • Man.... I was looking at the music for this Menuet and I was hoping to play it on bass guitar... but there are a lot of things in it that I don't think would be possible for bass.

Oh well. I can still enjoy Mischa's interpretation.

  • piercing ownage!

  • mstislav rostropovich's my favorite cellist, he's in a dvorak concerto and it is AHMAZING

  • amazing....?

  • this sounds so delicate

  • listen like Chaconne in D minor by J.S.Bach!!!!!

  • He has 61years old.

  • Damn, what the hell u thinking man, sure he is alive ! he is russian.

  • Very nice

  • Excellent ..who is he ?..from where is he?

  • Mischa Maisky, my favorite cellist.

  • is he still alive?

  • jesus, nazareth

  • @ajianese Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews: INRI

  • Is the 2nd note he played in tune? It sounded a bit off, especially when you replay it.

  • sounds perfect to me. its just a funny interval.

  • Don't forget to rate this.

    (^_^)

  • I would go gay for this man.

  • lol! Yeah it's easy to fall in love with Maisky when he plays like that. (-.-)

  • I wonder if he hides things in his hair.

  • Like candy!

  • extra bows , maybe some cat guts to grease them strings and keep his fro nice and shiny.. what a pro.

  • lol

  • If you play it right, it takes about half of the stamina that you might think at first sight. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to achieve the relaxation required for it, so in the first year or so, it DOES take a lot to play it.

    No doubt, though--IT'S WORTH IT.

  • The physical demand of playing the cello must be immense. Its fantastic yet looks exhausting

  • it's really not all that difficult. you just let your arm hang there and that's all the pressure you need. it is kind of a sweaty past time though. especially if you live here in hell(phoenix), like i do.

  • actually it is very difficult. your arm doesnt just hang there, you need to have it straight and let it flow to make your bow strokes easy and smooth especially because this piece requires a lot of double stops and different bow styles. its actually pretty tiring.

  • your arm is never supposed to be straight. it ruins your posture. the original meaning is the same though, regardless of the piece. cello is never particularly physically demanding.

  • hottswimmer is right that is the proper way, but i add tons of pressure because the school cello is crap and I cant afford my own. so I get tiered after like 2 or 3 minuets. O how I wish for my own.

  • Absolutely beautifully done. Musicians that put their whole heart into a piece and feel it intensely make the most beautiful music!

  • amazing.. .. amazing...

  • just beautifull, too beautifull

  • where can i download this videos in good quality

  • Mischa Maisky

  • Who is it?

  • I AWARD THIS 4 ANNA MAGDALENAS FOR A PERFORMANCE THAT IS ALL AT ONCE FORCEFUL...

YET RETIRING.A beautiful gesturality flexing it's tempo.articulation, and dynamic as it must to convey the individuated psychological dimensioning of each phrase.

  • I could listen to this all day. It's a captivating performance of the best movement out of this suite. He makes it so musical and so emotional. It's perfect.

  • Quite impressive, to say the least. I sense much passion in this piece when he plays it.

  • im a guitar player i mostly play metal and i interpret bach pieces for the love of classical and the inability to play the cello i cant find the sheet music for this anywhere does anyone have any suggestions?

  • you have to order this from a sheet music shop (that sells to classical musicians). You can't just order one part of it either, you have to buy the book it comes in and this book is called "six suites for Cello" by: J.S. Bach. Happy hunting.

  • actually six suites for cello is super easy to find. its at any music store they're always used for lessons because they require so much different technique

  • Forsyth Brothers in Manchester can get you this copy. They're on Google.

  • I love this piece.... but I always notice though the way he holds his bow,, its quite peculiar....

  • yeah- he tucks his second finger under the wood of the bow, and has is barely having contact with the actual bow-it's lifted for some of the time...

  • sigh, the vid of yo yo ma playing this was deleted, but none the less, he plays with amazing passion. a more bouncy sharp interpitation. very very good

  • I love his interpretation of the Menuet... especially the way he plays his grace notes in Menuet I.

  • This is so amazing. There are a few notes slightly out of tune, but his emotion just makes up for it.

  • I didn't hear any out of tune, maybe just me

  • i didn't any out of tune either. it was brilliant.

  • Thank you for putting this up, you have really made my evening.

  • love it, love it, love it!! and people like 50 cent think they make music!! this is music.. I really cant stop listening to this...

  • I adore the first 25 seconds of this video, I have no idea what it is about those first 25 seconds but its.. amazing..

  • actully I made an error the first 3 minutes and 28 seconds are amazing..

  • His chords are so perfect, it's not even funny anymore...BTW: This is very hard on the cello, too.;)

  • Amazing.... I just started playing the cello at my school (6th grade beginners) only been playing for about 3 months and i can't find these free music sheets online... Please give some websites or links :)

  • in a year or 2 buy the book. always push yourself.

  • Wow his chords are PERFECT!

Where can I buy the complete videos?

  • it looks fine to me

  • I love his playing, but his bow hand gets to me. it just looks..different. but ah well, he plays beautifuly and that is all that matters.

  • In soviet russia, vibrato plays you.

  • These menuets are HARD and he just plays them as if it's easy as blowing his nose....his talent is amazing.

  • I was taught by Paul Tortelier and Raphael Wallfisch and I have to say, I have never heard ANYONE play these suites so well! A tiny bit too dramatic for Bach but wow - my cello wants this cello to be its wife - and its a woman!

  • hehehehe

  • Heh, I wanna play cello.

  • OMG! that fucking gets to my heart =']

  • Rather a strange thing to note, but I always find it extraordinary when musicians can play a whole piece like this by heart. The most absurd case is the likes of Heifetz and Stern playing the Chaconne for violin by heart..

Knowing something so complex by heart requires a high level of discipline.

  • I am jealous, I am doing these and the Prelude for a scholarship and stuff and having to do the chords on Bass is the hardest thing I have tried. This guy makes it look so easy :'( Just shows Cello is easier than bass...lol j/k :P

  • Are you auditioning at rice( two bach cello suite movements are required there)?

  • Nah, Columbus State University in Georgia. Best damn music school in at least the southeast.

  • I've never heard of it or the bass instructor, have you ever heard of Mike Hill? He teaches in central florida, I think I'm going to study with him.

  • Nope never heard of him, sorry.

  • This video makes me want to go and play =]

  • the harmonies in the chords are delighting

  • His Bach is so clean!

  • This recording of the Menuet is one of the best I have heard.
