@shidonaki1 You kind of did insult me, saying I made a stupid comment. It was meant as a joke and to me jokes are supposed to be a little stupid. Ah well, can't win 'em all.
gotta love the Suggested Videos bar...."Bach-Suite no.1 in G for Cello"...."Cello Minute No.2 by Bach"......Ugly to Sexy (extreme photoshop makeover)...... "Rostropovich Plays Bach 3-v: Bourrees I and III".... "Authur Christmas Movie Trailer"
You guys should look at Maisky when he's older and everything's white. Looks like the uber-genius mad scientist. If you like Brahms, then look for the Brahms double concerto with Maisky and Gidon Kremer and Bernstein(conducting). It is like the three crazies of the music world put together xD
Sorry, I dont'use tabs, The chords are possible if you play in low register and use open strings when necessary. It's quite difficult to switch sometimes especially on a fretless 4-string and sometimes the lowest notes have to be played one octave higer. On 5-string or more it should be easier to have all the notes as written.
@triviumlambofgod With a lot of practice and messing with the settings or using a pedal you can make it sound amazing. I spent 3 or 4 months just working on the prelude to suite no. 1. Seems ridiculous, but well worth it.
Man.... I was looking at the music for this Menuet and I was hoping to play it on bass guitar... but there are a lot of things in it that I don't think would be possible for bass.
Oh well. I can still enjoy Mischa's interpretation.
@ajianese yes, it's true that if anyone would fit the role of Jesus Christ in any religious movie, it would be this cello guy! look at that appearance!
If you play it right, it takes about half of the stamina that you might think at first sight. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to achieve the relaxation required for it, so in the first year or so, it DOES take a lot to play it.
it's really not all that difficult. you just let your arm hang there and that's all the pressure you need. it is kind of a sweaty past time though. especially if you live here in hell(phoenix), like i do.
actually it is very difficult. your arm doesnt just hang there, you need to have it straight and let it flow to make your bow strokes easy and smooth especially because this piece requires a lot of double stops and different bow styles. its actually pretty tiring.
your arm is never supposed to be straight. it ruins your posture. the original meaning is the same though, regardless of the piece. cello is never particularly physically demanding.
hottswimmer is right that is the proper way, but i add tons of pressure because the school cello is crap and I cant afford my own. so I get tiered after like 2 or 3 minuets. O how I wish for my own.
I AWARD THIS 4 ANNA MAGDALENAS FOR A PERFORMANCE THAT IS ALL AT ONCE FORCEFUL...

you have to order this from a sheet music shop (that sells to classical musicians). You can't just order one part of it either, you have to buy the book it comes in and this book is called "six suites for Cello" by: J.S. Bach. Happy hunting.
actually six suites for cello is super easy to find. its at any music store they're always used for lessons because they require so much different technique
sigh, the vid of yo yo ma playing this was deleted, but none the less, he plays with amazing passion. a more bouncy sharp interpitation. very very good
Amazing.... I just started playing the cello at my school (6th grade beginners) only been playing for about 3 months and i can't find these free music sheets online... Please give some websites or links :)
I was taught by Paul Tortelier and Raphael Wallfisch and I have to say, I have never heard ANYONE play these suites so well! A tiny bit too dramatic for Bach but wow - my cello wants this cello to be its wife - and its a woman!
Rather a strange thing to note, but I always find it extraordinary when musicians can play a whole piece like this by heart. The most absurd case is the likes of Heifetz and Stern playing the Chaconne for violin by heart..
Knowing something so complex by heart requires a high level of discipline.
I am jealous, I am doing these and the Prelude for a scholarship and stuff and having to do the chords on Bass is the hardest thing I have tried. This guy makes it look so easy :'( Just shows Cello is easier than bass...lol j/k :P
