  • he said sqaure but it was a circle LOL

  • Fascinating.

    Thanks

  • You could also use liveatc.com

  • 2:49 <- results

  • why a vintage one? the vintage ones are better anyways, why not do it to a cheapo new one?

  • @SpeakerFreak95 New radios are usually single chip, so you don't have access to the discrete components.

  • 2:20 Red Hot Chili Peppers <3

  • @vladbuciatchi that ain't chili peppers, that's stairway to heaven.

  • next week learn how to rob a bank

  • what about the drive thru radios?

  • hehehe nice! I made that with my old walkman when I was a kid :)

  • 2:25 STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!!!!!

  • Isn't this illegal and also in breach of so many acts under law of data protection act

  • NO!! KIPKAY U TOLD THE WORLD HOW TO LISTEN IN TO RADIO CONVERSATIONS. NOW HOW WILL WE INVADE RUSSIA EASILY

  • @legoking97 fuck you!

  • finaly a project i can do

  • Is this illegal?

  • @UpsideDownHamster to listen NO, to broadcast YES

  • Aviation communications use AM modulation contrary to FM modulations used in the FM band. The FM detector in that FM radio will not be able to correctly decode the AM transmission so you will hear distorted voices.

    Myth busted!

  • do you can turn it back to radio again?

  • yay ! i can now be a terrorist !

  • Use WORLD BAND RADIO..... to modify [ by my observation its best] , It's Very Powerful Receiver., i live from my nearby airport 14 Km. i can here tow way contact [Airband]

when i put radio to TV mod i m able to receive Police freq.

  • Then attach a microphone and scare the shit out of them!

  • Why did i watch this when ive allresdy got a scanner that roams from 25-1300 mhz

  • Thumbs up if there is now a black van outside your window.

  • stairway to haven!!!

  • press 9 rapidly

  • I'm attaching a microphone to scare them and joke around

  • @arrranTheBinweevil thats terrorism

  • I know that this is legal so why can't u just buy a radio that's already modified for that

  • it would be funny if you did it backwards and talk to the pilots (this might be dangerous)

  • Just for reference, this is 100% legal. Do your research kiddos.

  • @johnnymitch74

It depends on where you are. In some countries it's illegal to listen to anything else than broadcast, CB or amateur radio signals. In some, it's even illegal to possess a receiver for other frequencies. So you should check local regulations before listening.

  • @marcrhsn im not the brightest guy aroud so feel free to correct me, but from what ive read its only ileagle if you are a convictited felon.

  • @ChickenHater550

It depends on where you live. I'm living in Germany. Here it's legal to own and operate a scanner, but it's illegal to listen to police, air traffic or other "non public" transmissions. In the UK, the laws are similar. In other countries, like South Africa, it's illegal to possess a scanner without a licence. In some US-States it's illegal to have a scanner in your car, unless you are a licensed Ham-Radio Operator or working for the police etc. On the other hand, who cares :-)

  • @marcrhsn Ohhh. interesting, i never knew that, however im lucky enough to be living in the USA. Although that will probably soon be changed if we stay under obamas rule. But your right no one cares, because the feds cant track you, esspecially when your not transmitting.

  • @marcrhsn You can't listen to air traffic in Germany? That's nuts! What harm does it do to listen to air traffic?

  • Omg you show the whole world how to do this!! Mean you get killed if a cop see this!

    :D

  • 627 terrorist liked this

  • not legal

  • After that video One plane crash again.. The Airways Boss thinking? How they listen us?(The Terrorist)

  • Don't add a microphone the TSA will tear you a new one so bad you won't even to go to jail to make your rear hurt

  • you willbe under a rest

  • 0:12 don't you mean any...

  • Lol. Im pretty sure Kips vid's are responsible for 54% of the terrorism in the world.

  • make one that lets me talk to them

  • @NatebotVlogs

This isn't only used for atc towers, there are many different frequencies above 108, I use this to listen to trains going past my house.

  • id laugh if the first the someone heard from this this was MAYDAY! MAYDAY! lol

  • i love your weekend projects but i keep thinking im muslim and if the police ever came to my house and found some of your weekend projects in my house i would be in gitmo before i could say kipkay.

  • Or you could use liveatc.net...

  • is this legal? jw.

  • What Airport?

  • i thought it was powered by a 9 volt bat? but why is radio shack in it?

  • I live on a small strip so this would be cool to make.

  • 2:21 you can start hearing jimmy page's solo on stairway to heaven.. xD

  • isn't this illegal?

  • He and the professor from Gilligans Island would make a great team!.

  • It is deception. On the air band work with amplitude modulation! How he could simple changes in the circuit to change the kind of reception? Delirium!

  • what ever you do you cant pass the encryption so don't worry they have already though about that

  • 2:26 Led Zeppelin- Stairway To Heaven guitar solo <3 jimmy page

  • @urewifemykids Just about to say that xD

  • They sell compact air frequency radios at most air shows.

  • I HIGHLY doubt this is even legal.

  • @jaredtheavenger it is legal its only illegal in uk

  • @DJBLUEDEMO Ah. Thank you.

  • JUST IN AMRECICA ??! croatia?

  • @robi4never ali si ti iz hrvatske??

  • @howtodownloadfull da i 10-15km od aerodroma

  • do you think you could modify to act like a walkie talkie wait do not try what i just said

  • i try this ,but i didnt be abled to listen ATC.. :(( i live near Airport (LYBE airport) but i cant hear CTR... i catched a France and Hungarian local FM station with this modification 0.o

but my friend try this and he succes :D

  • now show me how to make one to listen to the police....

  • @meuberepic i once had a small radio, and when i went to this type of frenquency, i heard police. its possible without doing this project

  • @meuberepic I accidently picked up police signals in the uk when I was 12. I was trying to hook up a plug and play to a mini tv but it had no inputs so I was holding the anntane up to the wire and then I fiddled around with various freqencyis and there was beeping and messages and basicly police stuff.

  • but will it blend?

  • Thats pretty damn cool.

  • I tried this on two radios. My bedside clockradio and a clockradio I picked up at a big box store for $15. Expanding the reception range worked as described. My tuning range grew so I could tune in 107 MHz at around 98. Adjusting the "tuning transformer" was less apparent. One had diodes nearby, but tuning that one had no effect like it does in the vid. So I tuned the other, which did. I never could pick up VHF from airport 3/4 miles away, which has a constant weather broadcast around 132 MHz.

  • @itismike

You couldn't hear it because 1) AM cannot be received by an FM radio (read my previous comment), and 2) you only offset its receiving capability by 9 MHz, putting the upper limit at just around 117 MHz, which isn't even in the 'voice' section of the aircraft band.

If you wanted to hear all of the ATC chatter (including that weather station), you would need to offset the receiving range upward by approximately 28 MHz. If you ask me, I'd say that's not possible.

  • @supertoaster94

I don't know if this is fake or not, but I think it's more complicated than you suggest: "If this transformer is tuned to a frequency of approximately 1 KHz above the IF frequency, the last IF amplifier will convert NBFM to AM." (google for source as the link won't post)

Your calculation of "add 9 MHz" would be accurate if this was a linear system. From what I experienced, the changes to the tuning range were far from linear.

  • @itismike

    Huh, interesting.

  • 2:25 stairway to heaven solo!

  • KISS108!!

  • yay another terrorist device xD no just kidding >.> then again xD

  • This has to be fake.

    1) Aviation radios use 'Amplitude Modulation', or AM, and thus cannot be received by a radio that uses 'Frequency modulation', or FM.

    2) The 'air band' is from 108-136 MHz, however, 108-118 is nav-aids only. If you want to hear the aircraft, you'll have to modify the radio to go all the way up to 118 MHz and beyond (up to 136).

    3) Even if the radio was on the AM setting, the upper limit of the AM broadcasting band is 1.6 MHz, which would be really hard to push high enough.

  • @supertoaster94 great comment. and still not feel anything in FM, this video is fake.

  • Comment removed

  • Just kidding ha! ha!

  • 以下のhありゃし

  • Can you use it from home if your ten miles from the local airport or do you have to go to the airport?

  • In the U.K. ONLY: "It is an offence to listen to any other radio services unless you are authorised by a designated person to do so."

This means that it is illegal to listen to anything other than general reception transmissions unless you are either a licensed user of the frequencies in question or have been specifically authorized to do so by an authorized person.

Its perfectly legal everywhere else, too bad I live in England tho :(

  • How about upgrading using a amplifier,an umbrella, and a laptop to detect wheres the plane?

  • Whoever thinks this is illegal needs to think. I'm a pilot and thinking this is illegal is like saying a pilot can't listen to the regular radio. Anyways thanks kipkay I was looking for an easy scanner to have a backup if my avionics shut down. What I really need is a mod for a two way radio to do this.

  • lol why poeple thinks its illegal ????? its AIR WAVES thats it ! no decoding = LEGAL

  • Kipkay is better than Chuck Norris

  • is this even lleagle

  • @txtailtorcher are you serious?

  • @slovakmath yes

  • @txtailtorcher no...they are only listening..not transmitting. listening isnt a crime, but if you transmitted on this frequency then it would be illegal

  • i did this and now my radio is brokeded

  • @JustinBlubbber good for you, you did it wrong.

  • yes work i already have make one but more powerful i can pic transmition more than 100 miles

  • @bomberman1992 I hardly believe that someone who can barely put a sentence together is able to build a receiver more powerful than Kip Kay's

  • @merc2772 if you dont belive no problem just try powerfull radio not battery ac/dc and a better reception(big antena in top of house)

  • put a mic in and send planes away

  • so we can only do tit near an airport?

  • @vankranker No, radios of short wave, can received transmition a lot of distance

  • You can be at home can't you? VHF broadcasts more widely than normal FM radio, and if a plane is cruising at 42,000ft and can recieve transmissions then you can probably do it at home right?

  • @cossheisnmzenna

Normal FM radio IS VHF. And on top of that, FM radio stations use transmit powers hundreds of times more powerful than that of an aircraft's radio. But keep in mind, VHF is line-of-sight, with a bit of over-the-horizon propagation. So no matter how many watts of transmit power there is, don't expect it to go very far over the horizon.

  • 100% legal, you can listen to ATC broadcasts on the internet or buy one at radioshack

  • why does this seem illegal

  • It works with new 1s too

  • omg bin laden is goona go to the military base and get info

  • Listning to Air Traffic Control is 110% legal.

    LiveATC(.)net

  • Then the NSA shows up and takes you ti Gitmo for being a terrorist!

  • @outatime1955 it is ilegal

  • it is ilegal

  • Seriously this is incredibly illeagal

    i don't know

  • @brazian777 yes. He wouldn't have made if its ain't

  • @brazian777 Who knows and who cares, it's frickin awesome :)

  • @brazian777 yes it is. its a public transmission

  • @brazian777 yes it is not disturbing the aircraft freqency it is kind of like a scanner you just listen to it not counicate

  • @brazian777 yes this is. if you figure out how to pick up cell phones thats not.

  • @brazian777

Many of us doesn't care if it's legal or not... hahahahahaha

besides... I live in a country (central america) where you are virtually untraceable from doing things like these! x'D peace...

  • @brazian777 after 9/11 probably not..if they see you snooping around the airport there be cops all over in no time.

  • @brazian777 it is leagel

  • Comment removed

  • @brazian777 probably not

  • @brazian777 No...

  • @brazian777 i dont know

  • @brazian777 yup

  • @brazian777 yes. they are using public radiofrequencies. it is only illegal to transmit on anything that you dont have a liscence to TX. however you may RX on anything that you are able to or they would not sell scanners to the general public. in simple words you can listen but you cant talk

  • @brazian777 i dont think so lol

  • @brazian777 probably not

  • @TheAstro30 oh yes it is but if police caught you your arrested

  • @brazian777 listening is legal, talking on that band.... is.... full illegal...

I´m a ham radio operator and i know what i´m talking about, xDDD

  • @bocatablanco whats a ham radio op. do u like talk bout ham and chiz?

  • @brazian777 a ham radio op is a person who has the ham radio exam etc....

I like talking about ham radio and etc, yeah

  • @bocatablanco ???

  • its allright everyone my dads an ex tv repair man ..he can fix it .....lmfao@radio-shack

  • I'm pretty sure that's illegal...

  • @Fujin95 Yea I doubt it.

  • kipkay just caused a terrorist attack hah

  • @idude09 no he didn't

  • @idude09 not really this is totally legal

  • Wouldn't this be illegal? haha..

Kipkay can be like the best criminal ever!

  • @khupido1n2 Nope. Now if it were transmitting, or causing interference there would be some issues.

  • @myguitardidyermom12 Ahh interesting.. Here in Australia it probably can give you at least a few months in jail lol :/

  • shut up guys youre bothe annoying!

  • stairway to heaven FTW!

  • @fuck192ass you are!

  • all iget is this sound that sounds like a fire bell

  • how far away from the airport can u heer this im about 3miles is that ok?

  • "This weekend project is powered by the way you sure disagreement checking nationwide"
