  • hi anti! yeh toor daal ko Urdu main kya kehtay hain? i am from Pakistan and here there is not such daal named Toor dal Can u tell me some other name of this daal?

  • Dear manjulaji, I got a pressure cooker from India since I was not very happy with the alternatives available in the US,,could you guide me with it - how many "seetis" or whistles of the pressure cooker before the daal is ready?

  • Dear Manjula, how long do I have to cook the dal without a pressure cooker? Many thanks! Georgiana

  • Can you please tell me what are the vegetables you added in makiing the dal?

Tomato + Beans and what is the other one?

  • thanks,it helped me make dal in united states

  • Great recipe. Thank you. I have a question :

I have been told that spices are useless until fried in oil to release their oil and aroma/taste. Why have you added turmeric at the onset without frying it. Would it not be better to fry it with the chaunk for better taste ?

  • I am making now! Thank you so much!

  • Namaste Manjula ji:)

I would like to know an substitute for Mango powder ( Amchur), can I use lemon juice instead ?

  • @reshuhk86

    lemon juice will work fine.

  • @Manjulaskitchen is tamarind a good substitute for Amchur?

  • @juzplain Tamarind is a good sustitute for amchoor for this recipe but not in every recipe.

  • That looks delicious!!!!

    Namaste! Thank you for posting!!!!

  • Can you suggest other vegetable combinations that would work well with this recipe? I am not Indian but do have access to some Indian vegetables.

  • Your videos are such an encouragement! I have been cooking Indian style for a few years, off and on, carefully following a recipe book and it went well. However, I watched this video (and the rajma bean stew yesterday), went out today and bought a really good pressure cooker (my old one was quite cheap) and I must say, this is SO delicious! I have two different toor dal dishes as you desribed here and love the contrast.

Thank you! My lips are warm and glowing - Chilies!

  • yum

  • very nicely done! easy to follow what ingredients are being used and how to cook. Also 2 dal dishes from the 1 video which is great.

  • Thank you very much!

  • Manjula Ji,

Which brand is your pressure cooker ?. Why I am asking is that in some brands, the dal leaks out while cooking in the base of the pressure cooker especially when the whistle comes on . thanks

  • Kalragh - My pressure cooker is a Fagor brand. Manjula's looks almost the same as the one I have.

  • Paprika is a spice made from the grinding of dried sweet red or green bell peppers (Capsicum annuum). In many European countries, the name paprika also refers to bell peppers themselves. The seasoning is used in many cuisines to add colour and flavour to dishes.

  • Is that the same as Cholian dhi daal? that's what I think we call it in Punjabi.

  • hi, no it is calles arhar dal , chole di dal koi hor hundi hai but it looks very similiar to that., you will find it easily , on the packets it is written 'toor dal' go n check out.
