We long term skaters do not want parents walking on the rink floor to take pictures. It creates a dangerous situation. It might be cute to you to carry your kid and have your spouse walk into skating traffic to shoot the other spouse carrying the kid. Even in Japan this risky behavior is not wanted. The only "insider" I am is a skater who has skated at dozens of rinks. Most bad accidents are caused by parents and uncontrolled horseplay by wild skaters. Insurance costs are high, rules matter.
If you skate in a rink in St Paul Minn, or Seattle like I have, you will too no like their same type rules either. Thus when you walk on the floor, or carry your kids,stay late, and they will tell you to stop too. You can call them racist, since you did not get your way. This is a typical American modern whine, you did not get your way thus are mad. Rink owners in New Zealand where I have skated have rules too, if you break them the owners enforce them.
At any rink around the world, if your own skates "look" just like their own rentals, their stance will be to make sure you are not stealing their skates. Since rinks do have skates stolen, typically they are goofy looking and easy to spot. At any rink I am at around the world, I do not want lay parents walking on the rink floor being a dumb jackass to take pictures, to cause folks to fall. It is very dangerous to both parent and skater. Biloxi's mindset is to walk on the traintracks too.
Biloxi's old rink on the point before Camile had similar type rules. No walking on the skating floor, no carrying children while skating.The rink in Gulfport, Long Beach, Bay St Louis had the same type rules. Rinks in Japan,NewZealand,California,Indiana,Michigan,Tenn,Ark,Alabama have the same type rules too
Golden Gate's rules are no different than many dozens of other rinks I have skated at over the last many decades. I am not an insider, just another old customer. At any rink we skaters do NOT want folks the rink floor without skates on, it is dangerous. This rule is at most rinks, no walking on the skate floor while folks are skating. The not wanting to respect rules means you are a spoiled child, or you do not care about others safety. Parents who carry their kids while skating is wrong too.
It would not surprise me if these people are racist. I am white, and it did not help me a bit. Old bitch called me a thief and liar. Said the custom skates I paid nearly 300 for, my daughters Christmas present, were their property, their rentals, and my daughter could not skate there. They brag about being a christian establishment.
Bottom line, if your not from their neighborhood, expect to be mistreated. I will never return, and intend to bad mouth them at every opportunity.

Golden Gate is a great rink, and like all rinks has rules. If your golden haired perfect child is the devil once you drop them off and he creates a ruckus, he gets asked to sit down and not skate for awhile, no matter if Klingon or Metron.

I witnessed a kid fall down, got hurt pretty bad. parents aren't allowed on the floor, but after 5 minutes waiting for one of these idiots to DO something, the mother of the kid walked out to help. THATS when they finally came, not to help mind you, but to tell mom to get off their floor. good thing it was not my kid, I'd have been in jail for assault
No matter what race you are, you have to follow the same rules. The party room is typically booked for 1 hour, after that time the part is over. The room has to be cleaned for another party that day, or the next day. The parties are ended before the skate session ends to allow time to clean up the room. That policy is about 1/3 century old.
Having skated at GG since it opened; and even in the 1970s when it was Pattersons, there have always been rules.

The same rules apply to all races. On a church night typically on Monday, church groups get a discount and typically leave at 8:30 versus 9pm. When it was 9pm for all; it took 1/2 hour for them to leave, all races seem to want to never leave and take a mess of time to remove their skates.

That is in no way racist. It's not like they were being told to leave just because of their race, they obviously were just there past the allotted time for their party and were told to leave. I've worked with people before and it's true, being nice to them (regardless of race) doesn't work. The people blew it out of proportion and immediately jumped to the conclusion of racism with no justified cause for it. Lastly, I don't understand why an adult would behave the way the woman did in the video. All of that yelling and screaming in front of her party's children, and other customer's children, inside of a place of business. If I was Mr. Billy, I would be hurrying that party out of the door as quickly as possible (as it appears he was doing).
I'm black and I used to spend 3 or 4 days a week at this place with one of my sisters and my friends. It would be hard for me to believe that Mr. Billy is a racist. I admit that it's been about 15 years since I have been there (even though I live right down the street from it), but it's would still be hard for me to believe that. I also don't think the party-goer's reaction to the employee (who more than likely was a kid) was in proportion to what he had said.

I lived at that skating rink like all of my friends did. I am now 30 and take my own son there when we go home for a week or two. I think this lady was frustrated due to starting late and should have made Mr. Billy aware of it and everything would have been taken care of. I understand the lady's frustration, but there are only a cpl party rooms, & they have to get each party in & out so the next one can come in. I work for Golden Gate and i love it there. I was actually working as a floor gaurd on the day of the incident. The woman was being very rude and unruly. The boy that came into the party room was just doing his job. I used to do that same thing. We tell white, asian, and black parties all that there time is up. If they still refuse we get a little more stern. Nobody would think Mr. Billy as racist if the lady in this would of been white. Mr. billy is a great man no matter what anyone says.

I have been to Golden Gate Skateland in the past on several occasions for the birthday parties of younger family members, and have seen employees make the same, honest request twice after the party extended a bit overtime. I have worked @ Golden Gate for 14yrs and know matter what color u r if u can't listen to instuctions the 1st 3 times u r told u dont need to be there. U r told when u book the party, when we call & confirm the party, and when u walk n the door that u only have 1hr for each party. If u r late getting started oh well everyone else that day was on time to there party and was done within the time allowed for each party. ok, I worked for Mr. Billy for over 13 yrs, and when the b-day parties came in we ALWAYS gave instructions to the b-day parents on how things were done and what to expect. They were told that about 5 min before the party was over that we asked them to be out b/c of having to prep the rooms for the next party. I know that things have not changed very much there and that these people were not treated unfairly. Billy provides a safe enviroment for our children to go to and has NEVER been racist.
For the record I worked there when I was young.I was not only pregnant but by a black man whom also worked there.Myson who is 15 now goes weekly and is never treated differently due to the fact that his skin is darker. I was there, I heard what happened behind the camera. I also shared with the manager that the employee could have chosen different words when he asked us to leave. I explained why it went over (because of the birthday activity he had going in the rink). He said "too bad,that is her problem" (referring to the mother). This was before the mother even made her way to the front. The woman in the video was upset after he said many rude things to her and her family. I would be upset too.

Actually to those of you not from around here, the manager's name is Billy, not Jimmy as you guys seem to believe. The guy that came in did sound a little rude, that I agree with but he did say he was sorry and stated the reason as to why he did so. I heard from several people that Billy was nice to the guy, and the lady until she started to pull the racism card, just listen to the video that you guys are relying on, she pulls the card first and all he does is what every manager does.
and that is to agree with the customer and let the customer's attitude influence their actions, in this case, it let her believe he was racist. Had this been a white group, same thing would have happened. Before you start on the racist subject, think of everything blacks have, that if whites replicated, would be racist. If we had a group for the advancement of whites, we'd be racist, if we marched for our rights, we'd be racist. If we had a white only college, we'd be racist.

We long term skaters do not want parents walking on the rink floor to take pictures. It creates a dangerous situation. It might be cute to you to carry your kid and have your spouse walk into skating traffic to shoot the other spouse carrying the kid. Even in Japan this risky behavior is not wanted. The only "insider" I am is a skater who has skated at dozens of rinks. Most bad accidents are caused by parents and uncontrolled horseplay by wild skaters. Insurance costs are high, rules matter.

If you skate in a rink in St Paul Minn, or Seattle like I have, you will too no like their same type rules either. Thus when you walk on the floor, or carry your kids,stay late, and they will tell you to stop too. You can call them racist, since you did not get your way. This is a typical American modern whine, you did not get your way thus are mad. Rink owners in New Zealand where I have skated have rules too, if you break them the owners enforce them.

At any rink around the world, if your own skates "look" just like their own rentals, their stance will be to make sure you are not stealing their skates. Since rinks do have skates stolen, typically they are goofy looking and easy to spot. At any rink I am at around the world, I do not want lay parents walking on the rink floor being a dumb jackass to take pictures, to cause folks to fall. It is very dangerous to both parent and skater. Biloxi's mindset is to walk on the traintracks too.

Biloxi's old rink on the point before Camile had similar type rules. No walking on the skating floor, no carrying children while skating.The rink in Gulfport, Long Beach, Bay St Louis had the same type rules. Rinks in Japan,NewZealand,California,Indiana,Michigan,Tenn,Ark,Alabama have the same type rules too

Golden Gate's rules are no different than many dozens of other rinks I have skated at over the last many decades. I am not an insider, just another old customer. At any rink we skaters do NOT want folks the rink floor without skates on, it is dangerous. This rule is at most rinks, no walking on the skate floor while folks are skating. The not wanting to respect rules means you are a spoiled child, or you do not care about others safety. Parents who carry their kids while skating is wrong too.

It would not surprise me if these people are racist. I am white, and it did not help me a bit. Old bitch called me a thief and liar. Said the custom skates I paid nearly 300 for, my daughters Christmas present, were their property, their rentals, and my daughter could not skate there. They brag about being a christian establishment.
Bottom line, if your not from their neighborhood, expect to be mistreated. I will never return, and intend to bad mouth them at every opportunity.

Golden Gate is a great rink, and like all rinks has rules. If your golden haired perfect child is the devil once you drop them off and he creates a ruckus, he gets asked to sit down and not skate for awhile, no matter if Klingon or Metron.

@3beltwesty yeah, I was there for a birthday party once, the kids that are supposed to monitor for safety pay very little attention to their job. I witnessed a kid fall down, got hurt pretty bad. parents aren't allowed on the floor, but after 5 minutes waiting for one of these idiots to DO something, the mother of the kid walked out to help. THATS when they finally came, not to help mind you, but to tell mom to get off their floor. good thing it was not my kid, I'd have been in jail for assault

No matter what race you are, you have to follow the same rules. The party room is typically booked for 1 hour, after that time the part is over. The room has to be cleaned for another party that day, or the next day. The parties are ended before the skate session ends to allow time to clean up the room. That policy is about 1/3 century old.
Having skated at GG since it opened; and even in the 1970s when it was Pattersons, there have always been rules.

The childish whine of bringing up the race card when you want to break the rules is tired and old.
The same rules apply to all races. On a church night typically on Monday, church groups get a discount and typically leave at 8:30 versus 9pm. When it was 9pm for all; it took 1/2 hour for them to leave, all races seem to want to never leave and take a mess of time to remove their skates.

At the end, Billy is obviously just irritated and trying to get her out of the door quickly without a care as to what she thinks about him.

That is in no way racist. It's not like they were being told to leave just because of their race, they obviously were just there past the allotted time for their party and were told to leave. I've worked with people before and it's true, being nice to them (regardless of race) doesn't work. The people blew it out of proportion and immediately jumped to the conclusion of racism with no justified cause for it. At the end he's not being racist, he's just upset and trying to get them out of there.

All of that yelling and screaming in front of her party's children, and other customer's children, inside of a place of business. If I was Mr. Billy, I would be hurrying that party out of the door as quickly as possible (as it appears he was doing).

I'm black and I used to spend 3 or 4 days a week at this place with one of my sisters and my friends. It would be hard for me to believe that Mr. Billy is a racist. I admit that it's been about 15 years since I have been there (even though I live right down the street from it), but it's would still be hard for me to believe that. I also don't think the party-goer's reaction to the employee (who more than likely was a kid) was in proportion to what he had said.

I'm just saying that the root of the situation may not be racism and nine times out of ten...... it never is. I will say that it does seem rude what they did. However I wouldn't exactly call that racism. Just because a white person does something wrong to a black person or a black person does something wrong to a white person....... you can't allways call that racism....... although sometimes that is the case. Anyone who grew up around D'Iberville knows Mr. Billy and knows that he would never say anything bad about anyone because of the color on their skin. I lived at that skating rink like all of my friends did. I am now 30 and take my own son there when we go home for a week or two. I think this lady was frustrated due to starting late and should have made Mr. Billy aware of it and everything would have been taken care of. People like her give people like Mr. Billy a bad rep for nothing.

skating (not like this,obviously, check my vids) is my life, and I have nothing but good memories from that place.I learned to skate there at age 4, now I'm 27 and plan to bring my 3 yr old there soon. I understand the lady's frustration, but there are only a cpl party rooms, & they have to get each party in & out so the next one can come in. Mr Billy might have gotten aggrevated, but I think it's just a misunderstanding.

I do believe that the people in this video made themselves look very ignorant and set a VERY poor example for her kids. I have known the owner of this place since I was kid and he is NOT a racist. I work for Golden Gate and i love it there. I was actually working as a floor gaurd on the day of the incident. The woman was being very rude and unruly. The boy that came into the party room was just doing his job. I used to do that same thing. We tell white, asian, and black parties all that there time is up. If they still refuse we get a little more stern. Nobody would think Mr. Billy as racist if the lady in this would of been white. Mr. billy is a great man no matter what anyone says.

I have worked @ Golden Gate for 14yrs and know matter what color u r if u can't listen to instuctions the 1st 3 times u r told u dont need to be there. U r told when u book the party, when we call & confirm the party, and when u walk n the door that u only have 1hr for each party. If u r late getting started oh well everyone else that day was on time to there party and was done within the time allowed for each party. It is a family oriented place so she should not have been yelling inside at all

ok, I worked for Mr. Billy for over 13 yrs, and when the b-day parties came in we ALWAYS gave instructions to the b-day parents on how things were done and what to expect. They were told that about 5 min before the party was over that we asked them to be out b/c of having to prep the rooms for the next party. I know that things have not changed very much there and that these people were not treated unfairly. Billy provides a safe enviroment for our children to go to and has NEVER been racist.

For the record I worked there when I was young.I was not only pregnant but by a black man whom also worked there.Myson who is 15 now goes weekly and is never treated differently due to the fact that his skin is darker. Mr. Billy is far from the way you are making him.If you own a business you have to be stern or you will not be succesful nor profit and everyone will walk on you.This man keeps alot of the teenagers out of trouble by keepng his doors open.He should be thanked not falsely accused.

I was there, I heard what happened behind the camera. I also shared with the manager that the employee could have chosen different words when he asked us to leave. I explained why it went over (because of the birthday activity he had going in the rink). He said "too bad,that is her problem" (referring to the mother). This was before the mother even made her way to the front. The woman in the video was upset after he said many rude things to her and her family. I would be upset too.

Ok. It is our JOB to ask yall to leave. As I recall in the video I hear him say "I AM SORRY BUT YOU HAVE TO LEAVE, I AM TOLD TO DO SO" either way he was doing his job. He was told to do so, and sounds to me he wasn't rude. And I asked that lady to calm down and she started yelling at me. He also didnt do everything he was supposed to because he was supposed to start taking yalls stuff out the room after asking yall to leave twice.

Along with tagra08 I work at Golden Gate Skateland and I was there that saturday. The lady was way out of line and didnt need to be screaming like that. We treat everyone the same there. If they hired a WHITE family to do the same thing we would tell them to get out too. If wasnt cause they were black it was cause they were yelling at a FAMILY CENTER! And it is a GREAT place to work.

Apparently people need to get facts straight. I was there and the lady was out of line. The whole thing started when the party was asked to leave the party room b/c their time was up & another party was going in. The irate lady did go talk to the mgr/owner & he was respectful but when she kept yelling in his face he got ugly back. Rules are rules but some people you can't argue with so he agreed with her. She started screaming racism. FYI-they have a mixed god-daughter so racism is not a factor.

The guy that came in did sound a little rude, that I agree with but he did say he was sorry and stated the reason as to why he did so. Had this been a white group, same thing would have happened. Before you start on the racist subject, think of everything blacks have, that if whites replicated, would be racist.
