Great review actually! Very excited about this 911... Increased wheelbase is nice, like the 7 speed actually for cruising (VIR is a 5 hour drive for me ;) everything about this car is better than the 997 except maybe the steering feel... Hope it's still the same lock to lock ratio
@vitto The GTR is a force fed, rice burning, robot car. I will take a rear engine, rear wheel drive, naturally aspirated Porsche over any other sports car any day of the week. The 911 has more soul than any car the Japanese will ever produce. It's a legend and retiring it is the most absurd idea I have ever heard of. No offense GTR fanboys :D
@mikeyb793 I agree with you completely, even being a huge GTR fan myself. Plus I love the Porsche's exhaust note and even though its pricey, Its probably the one I'd buy if I could afford both. Personally I prefer something that's sporty but can also be smooth and comfortable when you want it to be and the GTR isn't very good at that
The 2012 R35 GTR is a beast..Porche should be considering retire the 911 for the Cayman which have a way better weight distribution..(the engine is not in the wrong place like in the 911)
Dropping the engine down to idle on coasting makes no sense as far as economy. Most newer cars already use decel fuel cutoff regardless of engine speed. That's why clutching in a manual transmission won't save fuel, since some has to be injected to keep the engine from stalling. When you are just coasting in gear, the engine keeps turning via the wheels and no fuel needs to be injected at all.
@autoxerwgn Disabling the clutch = no engine braking. Yes the system will use fuel to keep the engine idling, but I presume Porsche Engineers found it to save more fuel over the length of a trip (compared to engine braking, causing the car to slow down, and then using more fuel to get back to desired speed).
@Emerald13 I'm sure that they found that it does something for better MPG's but it seems excessive. I wonder if they could just open the electronic throttle 100% when coasting to stop the engine braking effect. As annoying as it is, at least engine start/stop makes more sense.

i drove a 914. wonderful steering, not much punch in the one i drove, 914 4 with the 2 litre bus motor. but wonderful steering feel and great handling promise.
@TheCarVlogger The GT-R is an embarrassment to the car world. Real cars have a manual transmission and RWD. If I want to press buttons to change gear, I'll buy Gran Turismo 5.
@marshknute ..... WHAT?! Lol. This is probably the worst argument about "Why i think the GT-R isn't actually better than a lot of cars" that i have read. I mean, is the GT-R the only car with a duel clutch? No! Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, almost all modern hyper cars come automatic. But woah, GT-R is auto? Better knock it down a peg for that. So go ahead, hate on it. I doubt you can afford one anyways.
@nexorabolis I never said it wasn't better than a lot of cars. It is a technological masterpiece that shows just what is possible in a road car. That said, no duel-clutch system in the world is as fun as a manual. Look up the program "World Class Driving." I signed up last year and drove a Gallardo, 599, R8, Continental Supersport and SLR. The most fun car I drove that day was my track-modified Mazda Miata. I have respect for Porsche for continuing to build proper driver's cars.

@BumbleBeeGS Misquoted. The new 991S is reportedly 14 sec faster around the ring, but Porsche estimates that 4 sec of that is due to PDCC alone.
