...that's not what demo is, sorry. most demo's have production. most people pay for demo work and make it as polished as possible. they then shop the demo around to the labels for a deal. the youtube generation is lucky because they are able to put unpolished shit up and, almost always based on view count, a label might get interested and pick them up. but if a complete unknown were to go around shopping recordings of them just singing into a mic they would be laughed at.

...having said that, I am simply explaining the meaning of the industry term "demo" that has been used since the dawn of the recording industry. "demo" obviously is also a word unto itself, and so sure, pretty much anything that isn't committed to the final release COULD be called a demo. Or I could play 5 seconds of the album version of a song and that could be deemed a demo, too. So, you either use the term as it is intended per the industry OR no rules and demo could be anything.
