at least from where i am from (Sofia). we do shake our heads (fast) from left to right (same way as westerners do for Yes). but this is only done when replying to something that doesnt require much thought. If we say we understand we do shake our head up and down (same as other countries). I can't say I've seen the "circle" shaking towards your shoulders. That is more of an Indian (east) thing and not Bulgarian.

Byzantian historians weren't precise in the ethical belonging of many people. Do you know for instance that the greek historians Ioan Malala regarded Bulgars as Mirmidonians ( The Warriors Of Achiles from Homer's Iliada), because bulgars attacked Byzanz from small Scythia- today's Dobrudja - something which is quite flattering but also very wrong.

So his( Zlatarsky's) opinion counts and is of great importance at least for me. I think, You should also have some respect to one of the most eminent and worldwide recognized bulg., historians. So the only thing i took from wikipedia is Zlatarsky's opinion as an expert.

I speak bulgarian english and japanese, can drive without thinking on both wheel drives - the head shaking thing I cannot figure out - ever. i live abroad but i have to disagree with what others are saying.
at least from where i am from (Sofia). we do shake our heads (fast) from left to right (same way as westerners do for Yes). but this is only done when replying to something that doesnt require much thought. If we say we understand we do shake our head up and down (same as other countries). I can't say I've seen the "circle" shaking towards your shoulders. That is more of an Indian (east) thing and not Bulgarian.

Plus ALL the historians you've mentioned are Bulgarian and quite nationalistic as well, being pre-communist doesn't necessarily make them objective, for nationalism was the dominant ideology at that time.

Byzantian historians weren't precise in the ethical belonging of many people. Do you know for instance that the greek historians Ioan Malala regarded Bulgars as Mirmidonians ( The Warriors Of Achiles from Homer's Iliada), because bulgars attacked Byzanz from small Scythia- today's Dobrudja - something which is quite flattering but also very wrong.
The generally accepted view is that Asen, Peter and Kaloyan are bulgarians . And this has nothing to do with nationalism. Truth must be defended!!

Indeed, this byzantian historian Niketes Choniates did exist and wrote somewhere that they were Bolochos( Nowaday Walachos or Vlachs). But you have to know that byzantian historians did name people after the places they came from and not necessarily after their ethnical belonging.

So his( Zlatarsky's) opinion counts and is of great importance at least for me. I think, You should also have some respect to one of the most eminent and worldwide recognized bulg., historians. So the only thing i took from wikipedia is Zlatarsky's opinion as an expert.

You have taken from here and there some statements and from all that crap you have made bold conclusions like Asen and Peter are Vlachs and Asen II is of cuman Origin. Shame on you! In fact, the simple truth is that we know relatively little about these guys and their origin.
That is why you cannot just write that they are Vlachs like it is a fact, coz it is NOT and no- one on the whole Earth has ever proven it.

The slavic theory , which you defend, is the communist's one. This what we learnt in school: we are slavic , bla bla bla. So you are the brainwashed one not me. I repeat there is no evidence that the bulgars were few as they came to the Balkan, exactly on the contrary, they led wars against Byzanz long before 680 ( 479AD at the time of Anastasius they reached Constantinopole- a pure fact) so they were many and powerful. Besides Slavic is a notion without a meaning- it is a language group.

Besides, i think you regard thracians as greeks, don't you. Well, wrong again- Thracians, ancient macedonians and illyrians weren't genetically greeks. However, they adopted the hellinistic culture and moreover the greek polytheistic religion, that is why we call them greeks, but this is an abuse of language. They belong to the hellinistic culture but are not themselves greeks, is it clear!!!

They've already merged with the byzantium population, spoke modern greek, the architecture from that period is identical as the one in the known greek teritorries. there were simply no thracians left at that time as a self-recognized ethnic group!

Balkans have been poisoned with Nationalism, they consider it as something good calling it patriotism and using it to forget the misery of their own life, remembering those 'great times'. Nations are imagined. What i said about Bulgarians being a nation after 1878 was as a response to someone who said modern Greeks did not exist before the 18th century. And yes all those people were indeed Bulgarians, perhaps the first Bulgarians to moderate the Bulgarian nation.

The cyrillic alphabet was invented in Preslav ( the 2. capital of the 1. Bulgarian Empire) in 10. century by Climent Ochridsky and other bulgarian scholars, so don't tell me that cyrillic has nothing to do with bulgarians, coz it is simply false.
