@ofstephen Well it all depends on what im shooting. As all these lenses are prime lenses, i can not zoom so i have to hot swap them depending on the shot. I usually start with the 50mm Its a good all rounder
@danmartland Oh ok.. no zoom? crazy! ha Well i have the same camera as you and want to get a letus mini with some type of lens. I shoot mostly action sports and was wondering if you have the letus mini, does that mean that you can only use it for shallow depth or do the lenses change it? Whats a good lens for action sports? Thanks again man!
@ofstephen Well its like shooting film with prime lenses. Once the lens is on you zoom with your feet.
When setting up the letus you use the camera zoom to zoom onto the ground glass after this, you dont touch it again.
All the other controls are done on the prime lens ie, focus and exposure.
I cant imagine shooting sport would be that easy with the letus as you are pretty restricted with lenses. Its all about foreground and background when shooting this way.
can you recomend a good, resonably priced external LCD monitor for the JVC GY HM100? I've got a Handy 35 adapter. I need an LCD monitor to flip upside down to flip the image back right side up.
Hi, your video is very very inspiring and also very frustrating in my part. I got the same camera and the letus extreme. I've been shooting some footage but I'm not getting any good quality from it. not even half of what you have here. Could you please share some basic settings you are using? lens, camera set-up etc. thanks a load.
Thanks Dan... Once you have the proper adapters and lenses, is it possible to shoot a feature film with the JVC? Do you know of anyone that has done this?
Dan - how difficult is it to operate this camera with a letus mini and 35mm lens? Is it possible for one person to shoot and pull focus? How cumbersome is it?
Its a little tricky but once you get the hang of it its ok. Best if you have an external monitor so you can make sure you are bang on with the focus as the camera viewfinder isnt great. I did all my focus pulls myself. And having it on a tripod helps, hand held makes it a little tricky as it can be a little harder to hold. The Letus rails help!
That was extremely beautiful. and Great filming. Although, I think it would have more of a "film look" if you filmed in 24fps, that way it's not as sharp. But AMAZING, I now want this camera haha.
QUESTION! Does the Letus Mini make the quality that much better? I'm looking to buy this camera but had questions on the quality? How is the editing?? i hear it has a very fast ratio drag and drop~
I wouldnt say it makes the quality better, as the quality is already there to begin with, It just changes the whole look and feel to the image with the shallow Depth of Field when using the letus mini.
Editing is a breeze with the MOV files within FCP. It cant get any easier. Drag and drop and a way you go.
I exported this video in FCP using the current settings. Meaning that, it isnt compressed. It should be outputted the way it was put in for the best quality.
unless you run and gun... 7D destroys this at half the price... but... i am going to pick this camera up still...FTW!

is there a way you can change the field of depth?
EZ23TEHE 1 year ago
@EZ23TEHE Yes of course, you just change the aperture or change the lens its self

Dan, do you like using the 85mm or the 50mm better?
Cool video as well..

Dan, this is absolutely beautiful stuff. What lens did you attach to the letus?
daveduffus 1 year ago
@daveduffus
Thanks Dave for your kind words. This particular video was all shot with a canon 50mm 1.4 prime lens. Looks great wide open.
My other few videos used a variety of prime lenses such as:
50mm
85mm
24mm
130mm
This range of lenses seemed to cover me for every occasion.

Beautiful footage. I'm wondering, do you have to operate the cam' upside down with the Letus or do you some image flip device?
johnkarliss1 2 years ago
No not at all as the Letus Mini has the Flip module built in.
Thanks for your comment.

Thank you. Also wondering, do you have any opinion on MPEG-2 (your JVC) vs. MPEG4/.264 (HMC40)?
